So wait, when an IronClad gets good experience over the centuries and becomes good at what he does, do they strip off the extra armor, put a gun on his right arm and call him a venerable?

This isn't a 'realistic' argument is it?

Which part is harder for your suspension of disbelief? The 9 foot tall half dead supersoldier in space installed into a giant robot? Or the fact that ironclads take off their extra armor if they become venerable?

Venerables can have extra armor too...

and, a wizard did it...

I assume you are joking, even with the lack of smiley face, don't worry I'm joking too.

Maybe I'm all by myself here, but I think that a podding basic dreadnaught with Multi-Melta and Heavy Flamer is a better deal then an Ironclad in a Vulkan List.

Having 12 inches of twin-linked double penetration dice means that you can still knock out vehicles that are being screened by infantry units to prevent you from dropping within 6 inches.

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair.

An Ironclad is a relatively "new" design, like the Land Raider Crusader or Redeemer over the standard. As such, the interred soldier hasn't been alive long enough to be "venerable".

oh...ok, so when i make mine, i'll just slap a tiny terminator chainfist on there so that the giant machine can use it slower than a big friggin hammer...makes sense to me....

We all know that GW misses things like this all the time, and then when they get called on it they say that it was their intention all along, when a medium dose of common sense would win the day.

Your saying that to a guy who has 5... count them 5 different physically sized Tau burst cannons sitting in his bits box.

Hammerhead burst cannon
XV8 burst cannon
Stealth suit burst cannon
old style stealth suit burst cannon
Piranha burst cannon

What weapons look like and how it works on the tabletop has next to no correlation in this game. Until GW produces words in black and white saying that the chainfist upgrade strikes at initative, it will forever strike at initiative 1. Just like all the other chainfists in the multiverse, regardless of how big the thing wielding it is.

... well RAW is on page 73 sounds like any Dreadnought CC weapon is a power weapon that doubles the strenth of the dread to a max of 10 then slap on any other rules ... have 2 DCC weapons +1 attack ... but till GW FAQ this you're dreads gona be hitting last with its chain fist (why you also lose the melta gun i don't know)

but getting back to the OP question i think the question is whats you're dreads roll in the army? walking turret? then you probably want a standard dread ... mixed (CC and range)? this is a job for a ven ... CC? iron clad.

one question can any one tell me why you'd want a hurrican bolter on Iron clad dread...+12-24" 3 shots 0-12" 6 shots or a DCC (+1A with the hammer) with a stormbotler or Heavy flamer in it ... when i think about it same goes for the LR but at least that gets more space inside ... i'd understand if it got ammo options like the Sternguard, as this would make taking worthwhile ... thoughts any one?

I can't find anywhere where it says dreads get 2d6 for armour penetration with their normal weapon, I didn't think they did.

Also, Ironclads are great honeypots. I mean if you don't deal with them when they drop in you are making a mistake.

Then all the gak drops in on the Droppod LB that the Ironclad came down on.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Did someone mention that Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons normally give 2D6 for armour penetration?

I think someone worried whether the Ironclad loses its Meltagun if it takes the option of a Chainfist, but if you read the entry you'll see that it notes when you exchange both the main weapon and the built-in weapon, such as when you exchange the Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon and the built in Storm Bolter for a Hurricane Bolter.

GW missed an opportunity with the Dreadnoughts.

While two Twin-Linked Autocannon are cool, Mortis Pattern is cooler:

or maybe 2 plasma cannons.

Normal DCCWs and the new seismic hammer don't, chainfists however do give 2D6 armor pen.

I just think overall its a better honeypot than the Venerable. Sure the venerable is great but overall the Xtra attacks in hand to hand are very useful.

The best example I can give is tying up large horde squads.

You can fire smoke or position for a hull down with the Drop pod it comes with.
