.38 would be autopistol/autogun.

A .38 is more in the realm of a Stubber. But still its just important to realize that an auto pistol is a machine pistol autogun is a smg or assault rifle and its total S3 Ap- R24 Rapid Fire are representative of the combined effect of a fully automatic spray of lead.

The shotgun has very specific uses. If a shotgun is adjusted to short wide burst at short range it makes it more difficult to fire the same weapon at longer range. While if you adjust it for range its not going to spread as quickly. Either way at an effective range the shot can't spread to an area more than a foot and half while maintaining its stopping power.

The ripper gun was at one point described as a full auto shotgun.

Yes the ripper gun in its glory.I'll grant you that.
Hence the Str 4 R12. I am just proffering, without the Assault 2 its not worth taking.
Assault 1 is irrelevant to scouts-they can take bolt pistols (IIRC I don't have the new codex)
Assault 1 with S4 is ok for ST's, but the 2 shot rapid fire hellgun is preferred as I don't carry being able to assault after anyways-I just want the two shots.

My only real beef with argument is making it anything other than AP-, just for the spray reasons themselves.

I think assault 2 is fine, its just important to realize that it represent the sum total of semi-automatic firing of a cloud of pellets. That any increase to the number of shots should only be done because of some function outside the norm of a standard shotgun.

I actually quite like the idea at the end of first page; shotgun as a twin-linked, 12" range, S3 assault 2, AP zilch weapon. Ie, twin-linked would make them more useful.

The only issue seems to be making them too much better than bolt pistols.

S3 is what a man can do with the butt of his gun in CC. If a .38 should be S2, then a lasgun should be S1.
