Yup. I ditched it as soon as it went to 15pts. I occasionally regretted it when I was still playing 4th edition, but have not regretted it at all in 5th. The fact that Penetrating results no longer automatically Stun as well has made extra armor almost completely superfluous.

the only thing i get extra armor for is my HQ razorback but other then that i dont use it because it really isnt worth the points.

Razorback! The last place I would put it. Razorbacks for HQ is a fluff distinction in a Company full of Rhinos.

In the field Razorbacks are semi mobile turrets that accompany tactical squads. I suppose they must be for localised movement, as squad size exheeds transport capacity.

This makes sense as Marines are dropmobile anyway, and ground movement is localised as Thunderhawks, Drop Pods and Strike Cruisers provide the real mobility of the Astartes.

If you have a Command squad and want a tansport to get into battle use Drop Pod or Land Raider, Command squads are expensive, it is a great shame to trust Armour 11 to get there safely.

Don't forget that the things chaos DOES get are worse than they were before. Dreadnoughts used to go crazy and only shoot allies if they couldn't see any enemies, now they shoot the closest thing regardless. They also lost the havoc missle launcher and now blood rage no longer doubles attacks - that was kind of the trade-off, but now meh....

Oh and don't forget that the marine landraider magically holds more models, and machine spirit was made better, with no increase in the points cost from its previous version.

So extra armor has left the hallowed realm of "mandatory upgrade" and is instead something that "You would use as situation and army warrants".

I'm not seeing an issue. Extra armor increases the weight of a vehicle, strains the internal workings, and makes maneuverability more difficult. If every vehicle in the space marine armory was meant to have more armor they would of been designed with it. As it is its still excellent on predators and land raiders, and interesting on smaller transports.

If you wanted to keep up with the joneses you shouldn't have tried to overthrow the imperium. Losing access to practically every forge world and admech technician in the galaxy can make it hard to get cool rims for your tank.

You get to complain when you lose your base troop with power armor, defensive grenades, feel no pain, and toughness five. Also obliterators.

The 4th ed Chaos dex is a load of crap.

The 4th ed Marine dex was also a load of crap.

Chaos needs a new dex. Complain about that, rather than not having cool awesome extra armor.

To be honest it all depends, I spend about 90 points on it in ard boys and with out it I might not have finished first in the first round with it..... But the more I play the more I tend to agree with people that say its not needed.

I ALWAYS put it in land raiders as I need them to move...

As for rhinos and razorbacks it depends on the type of army, a rhino rush style assault army I put it on cause I need to make sure my rhinos can ALWAYS move. On the other hand if im playing a counter assault army then I dont bother as I only move my rhinos toward the end of the game and I need to spend the points that ea would cost me on things like lascannons.
