@ Mattlov - When you run your devourer gaunts, do you use toxin sacs or no?

Nope. Don't waste the points on them. I use them simply as numbers that can hurt the enemy some. Sure, I need 6's to Wound most of the time, but I get to re-roll every failed wound due to living ammo. And with up to 64 shots coming from EACH BROOD, I can usually count on about 10 to 12 Wounds from each brood.

Spinefists have poor range, and the twin linked is nice. In the end, you get about as many hits as devourer gaunts. But fewer Wounds from no Living Ammo.

Fleshborers wound the easiest being +1 Strength and Living Ammo, but I never do well with getting hits from them. YMMV.

In the end I would rather have an opponent make a dozen armor saves from a stupid number of shots than make fewer saves that were easier to hit or wound.

Plus, it's a lot of fun to roll that many dice and see the look on an opponent's face when you do it.

I must admit, rolling a huge amount of dice has always been something I've loved (shooty Orks are amazing at this).

Moving on to the next point in my list that I would like to hear some suggestions on...

I got a few suggestions from earlier posters that an anti-tank, close combat 'fex would be the way to go for my first carnifex. How should I kit that guy out? Which weapons? Which biomorphs? Thank you in advance.

Sorry for the double-post.

Here is another crack at a 750 point list.

Broodlord (EC)
Genestealer x 5 (Flesh Hooks)
165

Warriors x3 (ES, TS, Scytals, DS x2, BS)
104

Warriors x3 (ES, TS, Scytals, DS x2, BS)
104

Genestealers x8 (Feeder Tendrils)
136

Gaunts x8 (Spinefist, W/out #)
64

Gaunts x8 (Spinefist, W/out #)
64

Carnifex (Scytals x2, Adrenal Glands (WS), Toxic Miasma)
113

Total: 750

I was thinking of dropping the CC fex for a shootier fex of some kind.

Any thoughts on how that might play out in this list?

I'd probably grab a shootier fex for more firepower backup for those assault units. It's been my own experience that a melee fex just gets walked away from by pretty much anything. If your opponent does decide to shoot at it, though, it can absorb a good amount of firepower.

For your shooty Warriors, I'd probably drop Enhanced Senses. Scattering one less inch generally doesn't make the difference that those points somewhere else could.

I had kicked around the notion of a ranged fex, but I was unsure of what to give him.

I really like the barbed strangler, I'm just not sure what the second set of weapons should be, TL Deathspitter or Devourer maybe?

As far as the fex's biomorphs are concerned, would the enhanced senses be worth it on the fex? Probably if I brought a non-template weapon.

A good thing to shove on any Fex is Spine Banks. For 5 points, you get a S6 Spinefist, and frag grenades if you increase the Initiative to go before Powerfists if you are assaulting over cover.

If you have a non-template Fex, yes, ES are a MUST. BS 2 for anything worth that many points just isn't good enough.

Generally you'd go with a Venom Cannon to compliment the 36" shooting. Going with TL Deathspitters isn't terrible, but it's only a single S7 blast at 24" and means that any high-AV vehicle will give you issues. That S10 Cannon can't penetrate a closed top vehicle, but you don't need to penetrate to paralyze it. Definitely go with Enhanced Senses if you go this route.

I probably wouldn't go with the Spinebanks myself outside of a melee fex. On a long-ranged shooter, it's 5 points that you'll never use. That's the same as Feeder Tendrils or Flesh Hooks for five Genestealers, something you'd get much more use from.

Hey. I was wondering if you were just aiming for a 750pt army, or are you looking to add on to it beyond 750pts? I played Nids for my first army, and did pretty good with them in 4th. With 5th here, Nids took on a whole new role.

You see alot more Warriors now since you dont have to buy leaping for them with the new Run rules. Here is a small army that would be a great starting block to use, and add to later.

Warrior Squad (6) - 174pts
Scything Talons
Toxin Sacs
Devourer

Warrior Squad (6) - 174pts
Scything Talons
Toxin Sacs
Devourer

Spinegaunts (15) - 75pts
Spinefists

Spinegaunts (15) - 75pts
Spinefists

Carnifex - 113pts
(2) Twin-Linked Devourer
Enhanced Senses

Enhanced Senses

You can run one squad of Warriors as an HQ. The Gaunts are just there to soak up firepower. The Warriors can dish out 18 shot in a full squad. In CC they are Str5 and have 4 attacks on the charge. Run the squad until they reach the 18" range for their gun, and then continue marching everything forward. The Carnifexs can pump out 8 each, and still can deal with Anti-tank in CC.

Everything is up for grabs though. You can change it around if you want, or build around it, or something close to it. All in all, it is a pretty good list though. I enjoyed playing with it.

Sometimes you just have to let em' go...

I am going to be expanding to more than 750.

I did want to start small and work my way up to get a feel for the army.

@ Kirbiinator: I did end up going with Enhanced Senses+BS+VC on my Fex. I think it will be awesome.
