Maybe if I get a chance But I have a lot of just regular ole skinks to get done so I wanna have the bulk of the army done by the time the new goodies come out

Been a while, I'm taking a little break from my leviathan and getting some lizards out of the way. I picked up the new stegadon and I'm real impressed with the kit. Everything fit together so perfectly and there's tons of detail. I also love how it comes with a lot of skinks! After you build yours depending on what you do you will have to spare. Here's all the bitz ready to get painted. I'll assemble it all when it's all painted..



I'm gonna build this as an engine of the gods. The skinks will be the same red & blue, the steg will have dark green scales and light green skin, and I think I wanna paint the engine in grays to be like it's made of stone with gold bitz on it, instead of solid gold. here it is assembled..



And with some of the spare bitz and 2 extra skink bodies I was able to make a skink chief with a spear, and also I made a standard bearer for my ranked unit that will eventually get 2 kroxigors too. Dunno how I'm gonna make a skink musician :( Maybe I can use one of the giant blowpipes from the stegadon and trim it down to be a horn? here's a blurry pic

if you need a rough idea for a musician then find a large horn from anything (needs to be plastic)
simply cut it off and bore out the large end, then put it in his hand.
ill get pics up of my musicians later on.

yeah one of the steg's skink hands has a little blowpipe nozzle in it and looks like it could be a horn mouthpiece, so that might work. I think I have a couple of beast herd horns in my box, so I could probably combine the 2 bitz pretty easily. But I'm out of skinks at the moment

i suggest blue and black for the kroxigors.

Alright, had lost this blog amongst all the new ones ... If I haven't said it I've certainly thought it: love the skink scheme, very nice blend-thing going on, well done. The steggy color is a good pick too, nice and realistic and contrasts nicely with the skinkies. Props on using the extra bitz for special skinks too! You're probably set, but if you need more stegadon crew bitz let me know - I've got 2 stegadons which are destined for tzeentch warshrines, which means nearly all of the second frame is going unused

Side note, I forgot you're down near Philly. You going to Games Day Balti this year? Me and the Bethelem crew are heading down, would be neat to meet some more dakkites in person. Met Voodoo Boyz and a couple others last time, was cool.

Hmm... how much would you want for those crew sprues? I could definitely use the extra skinks But with whole sprues I could make a different platform for each type of weapon

I don't think I'll be going to games day. I've actually never ever gone to one, not a GT either. I've done some store tourneys and lately I've been doing apocalypse megabattles at Showcase, but that's about it. It's usually just bad timing for me, I'd like to go some day

Pity on Games Day, maybe we'll run into each other at a tournament or something sometime (more fun than GD anyway ). On the steg crew, I'll have a better idea of what I'm using of the howda when I start building - all the skinks will definitely be up for grabs, along with the giant blowpipes, throne, that sorta stuff. I need the actual platform and will probably keep the engine ring and maybe bolter for the bitz box, but you've got dibs on whatever else. Don't expect it to cost much

Maybe it's a shameless plug, but I'll probably launch my blog on here March 25 - 6 months before the Crossroads GT here in NY ...

cool, thanks. I can always use those extra skinks I was even thinking I probably don't need a whole other box of 24 to fill up my units, so the extras from a stegadon or 2 would be just what I need

I have my steg just about done.. just some little details to finish and I gotta paint the base. I should have it done tonight so tomorrow I can go pick up the shadowsword a couple days early hopefully

Looking good Necros, particularly that Stegadon. What were the colors you used for that scheme?

thanks The recipe was..

for the skin: black primer, then gretchin green all over, catachan green on the scales. Then I did a wash of ogryn flesh on the skin and it didn't seem to shade it enough so I went with badab black over everything. Then a light drybrush of rotting flesh for the highlights and then that made it all kind of blend together, so I did a wash of asurmen blue over the scales to finish it

For the horns it was easier, just dheneb stone, devlan mud wash and then drybrushed bleached bone then white toward the tips.

Awesome job on the skins and stego! Make me want to dig out all my old lizzies and finally get them painted hehe. Too bad I dont have a quarter of the painting skill most folks here do. Cant wait to see how the full model looks!

Nope you don't need any saruses at all. it can easily be all skinks. There's a bunch of cool skink special characters too I dunno all the things you could have in a southlands list but I'm sure you could make something pretty similar

usually i wouldnt take him, but i now play alot of siege games, and he is handym and due to cheap cost of skinks i can still outnumber people.

Necros, after reading your WIP threads for the past couple days i'm wondering where you store all your models? All I have is a couple cases and a kitchen table but the table has to have room for me to do homework. Are you able to display your collection or do you have a way of storing it all.

my hobby area is just a spare bedroom, it's got a king size bed in it too filling up half the room actually, I keep my models in army transport trays. After I finish a couple units I'll buy a new tray to fit them in, and that keeps em safe and out if the way and I can also pack them up real quick when it's game time. The only stuff I have out are things too big for the trays or just things I haven't gotten trays for yet. I don't like to keep stuff on display because it collects dust real fast. maybe some day I'll have a more dedicated hobby room and get a glass case to put stuff on display but right now it's just easier to use the foam trays
