What about create a Necron Lord based on a C'tan model, add all that sand stuff to the model and make it look as if he is jumping/flying out of the sand!
love that idea i'll do that wen i get a lord with resurrection orb.
thanks frazzled, but i need to make deserty, dead bushes and they would look a bit too... living.
its reassuring to know that the rods work, thanks.

I really, really like the monotone with green accents. Save any tertiary color for your command models (like the washed-out red cape you suggested for the Lord). The cammo look is exactly what makes this scheme so cool!

been really busy doing stuff, but ive got a destroyer lord with three destroyers, flayed ones, a monolith and a tonne of warriors to do. i'll post pics as they are done and when i do more foot sluggers i'll do a whole army shot. hopefully some tomorrow and a whole army so far pic this week. i need to get 2 more wraiths, 2 or 3 tomb spyders, a resurection orb foot lord and some heavy destroyers then i think thats all i will do before moving onto finishing my skaven... keep tuned onto galax FM with three dawg (if ya know what i mean members of vault 101(yes i am obbsessed with fallout 3(yes it is the reason i havent done more 'crons)))

I just got a brilliant idea.
Maybe you could blend the sand/green color into a more generic metallic necron color? Start with the metal at the top of the models and blend your way down. Kind of like Necron Chameleons? I think that would look incredible, and add some much needed contrast to your models without taking completely away from the monotone look.
Also, even if you don't like that idea so much, I'd suggest going a few highlights brighter on the painted green. It would probably look better.
Otherwise, I like them very much. It's just...they don't have enough contrast to really hold someone's interest, you know?

Even if you don't think you're good enough to do a smooth blend into the metal, I'd say at least attempt a drybrushing method on just one of your models.
Try basecoating the main metallic area on your necron black, but leave some room for "blending". Start with a darker metallic, say boltgun metal, and drybrush the black area until you get a decent covering. Then, go much lighter on the paint and drybrush around the edges of the once-black area. Perhaps dab at the edges a little bit with a stippling technique, to get it to look kind of grainy (I think this would perhaps fit your models better than a smooth blend, seeing how grainy they look already). Then you can feel free to move up from there, highlighting with chainmail and mithril silver.
I think that would look at least decently awesome, and it really wouldn't take too much time or effort.
If it doesn't look great at first, keep at it! I'm sure it will be worth your time.
