Anti-Mag wrote:Why is an army of ratmen any more stupid than big green cockney hooligans? In a game with three types of elves I'm sure we can find room for the Skaven. Sure, they're a direct lift from Fafner, but they fill that crucial role of the cheeky villain. Whilst elves are making fancy speeches or crying over something, Skaven strike. They completely rubbish the Hollywood ideal, and good on them. They're not satanic like Chaos, relentlessly morbid like the Undead or bone headed sheep like Orcs. I think of them as the most interesting race (alongside Chaos) and the most fun to play by far. A completely overlooked army, and for what? Brettonians? Please.
If the Skaven were a Batman villain they'd be the Riddler. If they were humans they'd be the Soviet Union.
They're the most technologically advance race in whfb, and they have some great models too. What's not to love?
Well-said. And quoted because that's pretty much what I would have said, but you said it better than I would have.
They're the only race that brought me back into the
WHFB fold. I've personally always thought Slann/Lizardmen and Orcs were the silliest army concepts/backgrounds in the
GW universe(s), but I can understand why some people play them. Every background/theme in the game appeals to someone out there.
Anyway, the
OP's "speculation" was fun to consider, at least. I don't mind if some of the overpowered stuff gets nerfed whenever the Skaven book gets its rewrite, but I really do hope that some of the never-played units get beefed-up, and I sure hope, more than anything, the Skaven "mentality" doesn't get watered-down. I love the cowardly, mad-scientist, strength-in-numbers feel to the army!
