You guys ever think he might've just been trolling to get people riled up? There have been, like, 19 or so posts since his last post, but he hasn't come in to argue any of them.

I always thought it would be funny to model one of my plasma gunners with him holding his plasma gun backwards, but I never really had a plasma gun to waste...

lets walk this through...
plague marine with plasma gun.
i shoot and roll a 1... darn, weapon gets hot.
even though the plasma is an AP2 weapon i still get my save... the gets hot rule says so as the wound from get hot is completely seperate from the statline of the weapon. AP and strength are irrelevant.
i roll a 1... normally dead.

feel no pain says when you suffer an unsaved wound roll a die and on a 4 5 or 6 you live.
i suffered a wound and failed my save from the GETS HOT special rule.

i roll a die and come up with a 6...yay for me.

It's not a shot from the weapon. It's still a wound caused by the Gets Hot! rule which is a special rule for the weapon. So what is causing the wound?

I agree that RAW you get armour saves AND feel no pain against Get's Hot! accidents. Even my lowly guardsmen get their 5+ save against their plasma guns overheating. All this is

Anyway, to derail this theory. Yes, the Plasma Gun is causing the wound, but it's causing the wound by badly BURNING the firer (it got too hot, vented steam, scalded or burned the user). This is NOT the same thing as someone firing a plasma bolt at the user.

But you're not shooting yourself in the foot. The weapon gets hot. Nowhere does it say you're taking a wound of any strength or ap value. You take a wound. You take armor saves as normal. You get your armor save. If you have feel no pain, as this is no AP 1 or 2.

Would it help if you pretended that the "gets hot!" rule said that it does a Strength X AP - wound, where X is "yes" and you can always take an armor save or an invulnerable save if you have one (everybody but the priests), because it's the same thing as we're telling you.

FNP doesn't work against AP1 or AP2 weapons. A plasma gun is definitely an AP2 weapon.
So even if you weren't wounded by a hit from the weapon, but a special rule, it was still the weapon that caused the wound (via the Gets hot! rule) and as the weapon (ie not the wound) is an AP2 weapon you don't get FNP.

so if you pissed a marine off and he cracked you round the head with the gun its self that would be AP 2 aswell?
me thinks not.
overheating would be the gun heating up to stupidly high levels, in which it may either burn, or possible make a small bang.

Can you support this argument further because it seems weird.

Sure, the wound was caused by a rule mechanic called "Gets Hot". It's in the main rules, page 31. It has no AP, no strength, it just causes a wound. Look it up. Show me where it has a sat line providing it with ST or AP, then you have a case.

I don't have any information that anyone else doesn't have, so my answer isn't any more or less important than anything else that has already been posted.

I believe the same thing we ruled in the INAT FAQ in regards to 'gets hot' and instant death: that the 'gets hot' rule is causing the wound and not the weapon much the same way that wounds caused by 'No Retreat' aren't coming from any particular source.

Therefore, wounds caused by 'gets hot' are saveable by FNP and do not cause instant death.
