Democratus wrote:The movement rules permit you to move an infantry model up to 6". So you can do so wherever you like unless another rule prevents it. This is the nature of a permissive rule set. Since there is no rule stating that an infantry model can't be over a vehicle then it is allowed per the rules.
I may be crazy but isn't this quote from page 11 from the RB cover just that.
"A model may not move into or through the space occupied by another model (which is represented by its base or by its hull)..."
hmmm, this IMO is pretty clear that states:
a) the space a model occupies = its base or hull
b) no model may be moved into or through the 'space' occupied by another model
c) unless you are trying to argue that 'onto' is not the same as 'into' (and even this is an extreme stretch), then I believe you have missed this line.

Space is three dimensional.
It's impossible for a model to occupy the same space as another model. Even if two bases are directly on top of eachother they do not occupy the same space.
The rulebook never says anything about 2D AFAIK.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |

Placing a model on top of a vehicle's hull is the same as placing a one model's base on top of another model's base...it is illegal.
It is the taking up the same space that makes it illegal...just as you cannot move over another freindly model (not counting skimmers, jump packs etc), you cannot stop on top of a friendly model...that would be moving into the space occupied by another model.
@ Democratus: If you cannot see that from pg 11, then I am afraid there is no hope for you understanding this rule. We (and others in the thread) have been over this too many times, and we have already explained it in several different ways.
Also, remember the nature of the 40k ruleset..it must tell you that you can do something in order for you to do it. Therefore, until you find a rule that specifiaclly permits you to move on top of a vehicle, then you may not.

Also, GW is not trying to restate a physical fact (two objects may not occupy the same space at the same time).
Since we know GW is not trying to give us a science lesson. We are left with that the RB is actually telling us that you can not put one model on top of another one.
Unless of course you believe that the RB's line on page 11 is in fact a science lesson by giving us a basic instruction in the laws of physics.

I agree that that probably is what is intended. Still, it's not what the rules say and Democratus got a point.
I'm a firm believer in RAI btw so it won't affect my gaming though. IMO RAW sucks for this game (unlike real games) as GW can't write proper gaming rules.

That's certainly silly. You're a firm believer in RAW and play by it without complaint.

Picture of disembarking in the rulebook clearly shows that doors stay closed when measuring disembarktion distances.

Skimmers are the only units in the BRB that are allowed to move over friendly and enemy units.
They are not allowed to end their turn above either.
BRB pg.71 Moving Skimmers
I somehow doubt that infantry ,which is not allowed that kind of movement, could somehow end their movement over another unit.

Ork player would model ther battlewagon with a boarding plank sticking out 3 inches or so in front of it to gain more charge range.
GW allow conversions of there models but in game these conversions are not allowed to cnvay an unfair advantge so 3" bording plans are not viable but a regualar out of the box drop pod has massive door plus it is an open topped vehicle so the disembarcation radius is meaured from anywhere on the model.
i am not saying this is right common sence should be used to determin how the disembarcation of a drop pod works
