lol, my desk changes day by day.... mess moved or gets moved off(falls off) and new mess appears...
im tmpted to take a phone pik.... just for an example...
oh well, doin that now.... loading it.... might take a while.....
okay, itll be attached at the bottom....
The only thing sadder than that, is when a person with a paintstation like that, takes a picture with a "camera" like that, of his latest model (picture including ugly mat, dusty mousepad and sticky keyboard), and expect any of us to even look at his ugly-ass model (coz it will be ugly-ass in those surroundings). Sad, I tell you. Sad.

my desk in my room is my painting area, paints just go in the draws next to me, out of site .
problem is, while the paints are tidied away, being a teenager, the rest of my room is a bit of a mess, mostly 40k army cases, buildings, rule books, codexes, car magazines and PSP game cases!

Unfortunately I don't have an organization system. I keep my vallejo paints stored in a small plastic box so that I can't see the coloured parts of the paint containers. I just pull them up to see the colour 1 by 1 until I find what I need.
It's an idiotic system, but I still own less than 20 colours so I manage.

Does in a random jumble sprawling out to the right of my computer/painting desk count as organized? My better half keeps threatening to straighten and organize them, but I think the task is daunting enough to keep her at bay.

Mine fit into a large shoebox. Whatever models I'm currently working on go in a small foam padded plastic case that fits right on top of the paints. Very portable, which is good since I paint at home and work.

In a box under my desk. I keep meaning to mark the lids of my paints but have never gotten around to it. To make matter worse, my roommate who can't use a palette for some reason (he's an illustrator for god's sake I just don't get it!) uses the lids of the paints to mix colours. So I have to remember that shadow grey has boltgun metal on the lid, dark angel's green has bleached bone on the lid, scorched brown has blood red and scab red on the lid, etc. It's not the best system. Actually it's about the worst system possible.

I know, right? My call center has a relatively liberal view of what agents amuse themselves with between calls when business is slow. I keep everything portable and contained so there's little chance of accidents. There have been times I've been asked not to do it and I keep it out of sight during client visits and the like.
My co-workers and managers love to see what I'm working on at the moment and while I'm the definitive geek on the floor, I'm also a supervisor so they don't call me names to my face!
Of course, painting miniatures isn't that big a deal since I also make chainmail and jewelry, sell homemade jam and jellies, tutor agents taking college courses, provide cooking advice and recipes, and am the go-to guy for any questions concerning our line of business (and everything else). Keeps me busy...
Back on topic, I don't think the OP's paint set is messy at all; a lot of the guys at my FLGS just toss everything into tool boxes and use anything in reach as a palette so the fact that everything is fairly orderly and self contained is respectable in my book!

I've got a 4 level Paintier carousel. In a perfect world, I would have all of my craft paint on the inside of the bottom tier with smaller pots on the outside. I've got tubes of green stuff and other two part epoxies stuffed into the middle tiers and most of my brushes in their holes on top. The larger holes are home to pieces of tubing to keep them safe and out of the way. All of my smaller paints were sorted by color family.
I've got a 22" plastic tool box for my modeling tools and stuff.
Now, most of my paints and tools are in a cardboard box under my gaming table, but the WIP projects are sorted out in plastic boxes and ziploc bags so their parts won't come amiss.
I sat down and set up a triage list so I could get them done quicker, seeing who's almost finished and stuff. A few of them are almost table ready, they just need a drybrush with silver on their gun barrels or something trivial like that.

I keep mine in a plastic tool box. All the tall craft type paints and eye dropper types in the bottom. All my GW and oooooooold ral partha paints are in the removable caddy with the brushes in the slim socket area along the back. There are a couple of snap type bins on the lid for my knives and tools. I've marked all the colors on the lids so everything is easily identified. When not in use it's stored in my closet on the floor next to my military boots. Keeps everything tidy and the wife happy. Kind of a pain to set up when I want to paint and put away when I'm finished. I'm finishing up my basement at the moment and I've already drawn up the plans for a hobby/game room.

I've got all my paints and brushes located in an old GW cardboard box. Each paint lid has a small dab of paint on the top, so I can easily pick the color I need. I try to keep them somewhat organized within the box, but that doesn't happen often.
