That's great but really adds nothing to the OT. It would be really, really nice if a WAR thread didn't devolve into a WOW vs. WAR flamefest. (Regisimus: I know yours wasn't a flame but it is bait for a WAR fanboy).

I agree with Ozy, and I don't say that a lot. I'm a huge geek, but one aspect even I find distasteful is the Jets and Sharks style rumbles that occur between fans of various games/consoles/whatever.
I hate to use terms like fanboi and hater, but there are two extremes, two poles in all such discussions: the tireless apologist, and the impossible to satisfy. The TA will explain away anything as being beneficial, while the ITS will constantly compare the product in question to the market leader, often switching leaders and points of comparison in order to better make his point.
In short: if this makes a better game experience, and the game is going to continue to run, it is at the least a qualified success.

To be honest its a shame this didn't happen earlier, one of the main reasons my wife and I left was although we where willing to look past the over-endulgence of pvp, (we generally just like chilling out doing pve if I'm honest.) It was impractacle to stay as much of the pve in the later stages seemed to revolve around the pq's. These proved to be nigh on immpossible to compleate with the pack moved on.
It was also apparent that even only three weeks in, that our love affair with alts would also be painful. As with the pack moving on, apart from the rare occasion of meeting a new player of another alt addict. Most lower pq's on the following runs of lvling new characters would also be impossible.
Thus it was turning into a massive grindfest for us after just three weeks and we didn't renew our subs. By grindfest I mean we where having to do the first lvl of a pq, sometimes the part or full of a second, (but some Champion lvl encounters we're too tough,) and most boss ones we had no chance at low to medium level. So to lvl we where constantly grinding the first pq lvls to get the blues. It soon became boring.
I got the reasoning for the lets make pvp great, (hell I do a fair bit in WoW) I just lament that Mythic hadn't put enough pve in there to keep non pvpers happy, or for when folks wanted a deccent break from pvp, not just a pq or two. As at the end of the day I just wanted to play Druchii in the Warhammer world and would be if they had taken pve seriously.
When I consider what Cryptic had planned, I seriously can't believe what we missed out on.
I might look up my characters at some point, but its unlikely now. WotLK has generally been a breath of fresh air, much more fun than TBC was and I can't see me leaving now unless its for WoW 2 or 40K.

Thinking on it for a moment, the only thing that might bring me back to WaR now would be an expansion based pretty much around PvE.
Especailly when you consider Mythic don't like Vertical expansions and prefer horizontal expansion for the game.
Well that was quoted from one of the main dev's anyway, not sure if its still accurate.
But aye, part of me hopes it happens, because although I enjoy WoW, and would intially miss my characters. The joy of playing in the Warhammer world was great, plus the humour and getting the plot and in jokes.
My WoW-fu is weak, well miles weaker than what I know about Warhammer anyway. I get by in WoW, but the plots, well don't seem so epic as Warhammers, plus I prefer the Warhammer races. Its just at the moment WaR and I don't fit.
So part of me hopes for more big pve news in the future, but I think it is unlikely.
Shame if I'm honest.

Sorry, I think I derailed it by asking about WAR (as I hadn't played it) using WoW as a point of comparison as it's a MMORPG that most people are familiar with.

I not sure WaR can ever be raised without WoW creaping in somewhere, as many us have played both, and have chosen one over the other.
Just the way it is sadly.

WAR isn't going to shut-down anytime soon. Rather, if it did, I'd be really shocked. 300k is a pretty strong following for a game-that-isn't-WoW. EVE Online has been plugging away with about that number (or less) for 5+ years now. Other games like EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, LotR, CoH, etc, etc, all have similar userbases (or less), and are still plugging away, years after launch. I think those of you who are running around like Flagellants predicting the fall of WAR so soon after launch are barking up the wrong tree.
Sure, that massive of a server reduction looks bad on paper, but for the folks currently still playing, it should be a really nice change.
WAR will be a 'niche' game, like most other MMO games are 'niche' games. 300k subs is MORE than enough for them to make a go of it.
Personally, I played WAR at launch, stuck through the first 30 days, then cancelled. It just didn't 'click' with me like other MMOs have. And I REALLY wanted to like WAR. :(

How many player did War start with? Wasnt it around like 750k amount?
60% loss of customer is alot no matter how much they have left now. I guess this is the issue on whats making people go o_- <-

That's true, but statements like "I don't like WAR, I much prefer WoW" while ignoring the OT just lead to flamefests and flamefests lead to angry internet tears.

I think I'll re-up my account tonight, I'd been thinking about WAR over the last weekend and now that my Server should have a decent population, and they are giving lewtz to re subscribers, I think I'll jump back in.
Servers merges are a Good thing for MMOs, playing on underpopulated servers is not good. War launched to many servers in there first month to try and battle waiting times at log in.

Oh aye, I agree fully Ozymandias.
Regarding the OT, thinking about it, I should check if either of my servers brought it in case I do go back eventually.
Was on Karak Norn with Destruction, and Karak Hirn with Order.
Did they note what happens to currently un-activated accounts characters on a server that dies. WoW randomly moves them all to the same server, not sure if WaR is the same?
Oh and I can't go to gaming sites here at work and look, most stuff is blocked. Tbh I'm surprised I can get here to Dakka.

Morathi, I think you may be looking for something from WAR that isn't there. The game was always designed from the start as a PvP game, that its core and its focus, it will never have the PvE of WoW, Mythic's games have always been very PvP focused. When they tried to expand their PvE offerings with Dark Age of Camelot, they alienated most of their core players, and thus had to do some major backtracking and swore never to do the same again.
WAR is a PvP game, through and through. It's not attempting to cover all the areas that WoW is, and won't offer the same breadth of content, but will offer a much more intense and concentrated PvP experience, which was the original intent.

I read a great statement on the WAR forums (which is not known for great statements) that basically said they could not even being to polish (well balance) the game until these last classes were released. The game was designed with all their roles in mind, but when it released and lack the tanks and dps...it left a void which ticked off a lot of people...thus they left.
While they have been making efforts to polish here and there, i would imagine the true polishing is going to happen. I played at the start, and went back a few weeks ago and tried it again...big difference. And before people get into semantics, i do realize polish and development are totally different animals...however they pull resources from the same pool.
Last comment, i too would like to see more PvE content added in the future!

Tbh this is still one of my bugbears, for a long time (I followed pre-release of the game for about 18months) the dev's where making statements along the fact pve folks would have plenty to do, its all going to be all there. Although the game was going to feature alot of rvr, pve players where just as important to win the zones, etc etc.
It wasn't until the last couple of months did they start hinting that maybe the game was a lot more pvp based than there where letting on, and they where expecting folks to get brought into line and join the pvp.
I think that was a horrible error myself, and I still frown as a great effort on the pve side shouldn't hurt the pvp side, it just brings more faces to the table willing to play. I can't fathom why any game would aim for a niche market, which WoW has generally proved pvp MMO's are. Casual pve seems to be where the numbers are.
Although I'm not looking for WoWhammer, I was happy with the pvp in WaR, I just wanted more pve options, mainly as it is the only way I can get my other half to play as she won't pvp. She hates it, gets annoyed if she has to. Heck I was stunned she did a few battles in WaR at all, and I think that was only because of the setting. Although I do think female Chosen oddly would have helped for her to stick it out for longer. Another odd decision but that one was by GW.
You can have male Druchii Sorcerers, but no female Chosen, what de heck GW??
I hope more pve comes in, but if this is now in effect DAoC 2 which wasn't their plan 18months ago, then you are probably right and I'll not be coming back.

Depending on who you ask they are still the second or third largest MMO on the market. 300,000 is hardly a small number, it just doesn't look that big compared to world of warcraft.
Server closures are more like the way video rental stores get 5 copies of big movies in then sell of 3 or 4 once it's past the new release stage.
