The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

My boy's doing a mixed metal necron army that looks pretty spiffy so far. He's spray painting, washing with the GW washes and touching up details by hand. So far he's got a dark, almost black metal, a chrome metal, a brushed gold color (my favorite), and the classic boltgun/chainmail. Followed by either a badab or devlan wash you get enough variety that breaks up the boring monochrome of the traditional necron force.
He's done the same thing with immortals, but giving them a red wash to distinguish them from the warriors and plans to do the same for any pariahs he gets with blue instead. Not quite skittles-necrons, but it looks good and is super easy.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
