HI all,
I have played diferent games from different companies.
My gaming group tend to play 3 or 4 different games in any given time , and cycle through our 'katalog ov rulz' when we get fed up of a particular system.
To play just ONE game sytem for years is far too limiting IMO.
We too prefer the smaller start up costs of other games systems compared to 40k-WH.
Happy Gaming,
Lanrak.

I've played a fair few different RPG's and still enjoy Palladium stuff on that front.
As to miniature games though, 40K is really all I've played. There's a pretty good community in the area and I'm more into the painting end of it anyway. If I find another range of stuff I want to paint at some point, I'll probably try something else. but the GW stuff is good enough for now.

Wow, let's see...
Started off waaaay back (almost 30 years now) playing a couple of board/tile/map games (Divine Right being the only 1 I can remember at the moment) before trying out D&D. My cousin and I also bought a couple of the old Grenadier Models dungeon monster boxes, and created our own board and game.
2nd edition Blood Bowl started me off into the GW systems, and I think I've played them all except for Space Hulk...
Along the way I've picked up and read, if not actually played, around 30 different tabletop systems (I collect them to see the different rules and variations people used)... Firestorm, Leviathan, Battletech, Great Rail Wars, Hordes, Warmachine, Warzone (all versions), Shockforce, and I also did some playtesting for the 1st version of Aetherverse...
Currently, the small group we have is playing Warhammer and Blood Bowl, though I'm steering people into a SuperSystem/Superfigs campaign, and just recently acquired Uncharted Seas, which is a blast! Flames of War is also currently tempting me, as is Field of Glory...
We also dabble in RPGs, those mostly being either an on-again, off-again GURPS campaign (done everything from future to bunnies!) and I have a Deadlands Hell on Earth campaign running for our group...

I play a great variety of games. Right now I've just started AE-WWII, and I'm planning a 40K Ork army and Deathwing Terminator army.
To be honest, the only reason why I'm getting into 40k is that there are a lot of players, and I like the setting. However, I don't like rules all that much but they are playable.
I'm going to try to get other players in my group into AE-WW2 and other games.
Before my current stint in wargaming, I used to play Vor and WHFB.

I started with Warhammer Fantasy 13 years ago then moved to 40k a year later. I love the 40k universe and the fact you cant pretty much justify any type of fluff to a extent. Dont get me wrong fantasy's the same way I just like the skirmish feel more then the block units of fantasy. I buy fantasy still just to model and have look pretty on my shelf.
I also like Flames of War a lot. I sink a lot of money into that as well. Mostly because I think the rule set is really good and the models look great on a board expecially a GOOD terrain board with two well painted armies.
But as to the above I like both pretty much equal. 40k and FoW but where I was at stateside I really didnt like the crowd that played 40k in my area so I stuck to FoW mostly unless I really needed my fix of 40k.
CCG's I learned my lesson with 40k ccg/LotR ccg/WWE ccg. I know.... Quite a selection but rawdeal was a great card game regardless if you were a wrestling fan or not.

I started with non-GW games (Risk, Hero Quest, Battlemasters, even though the last two feature Citadel minis) in 2nd grade. Then I picked up Battletech 3rd Edition in 3rd grade and that was my main system for years, even after I got the 40k 2nd edition box set in 5th grade (1994). As time went on, aspects of the Battletech universe began to bother me.* Between then and now I've dabbled in a lot of different games, mostly space combat systems.
I generally prefer generic rules that come with detailed unit construction systems, so I can plug my figures, and whatever universe I come up with, into them. Mostly I try to plug existing fluff into a "better" game system. Examples:
Starmada generic space combat rules, used for Star Trek, Babylon 5, Star Wars, and Exosquad. Both Star Fleet Battles and Babylon 5 Wars are too small-scale. Starmada has the best construction set I've ever encountered, followed closely by Dirtside II.
Stargrunt II used for 40k, homebrew near-future. 40k is too focused on hack&slash for my tastes, and I like alternating activaction.
Dirtside II used for Epic 40k, homebrew near-future, Renegade Legion.
Of these games, I've still only played 2 games of Starmada and 2 games of Stargrunt II against an actual opponent. At the end of the day, I end up playing Warhammer Fantasy because I enjoy the game, figures, AND fluff, and I keep up with 40k because it's the only semi-decent 28mm sci-fi game that I can find opponents for.
*Giant robots being better than tanks. I don't remember exactly, but I think the system has a bunch of artificial limitations to nerf vehicles. Little or no space combat due to a lack of Warships=lame. Ridiculously small armies are the final straw, especially considering the appropriately "epic" fluff in FASA's less successful Renegade Legion universe. The last Battletech book I bought was the Draconis Combine Field Manual. I sat down and tallied up their troop totals (since the book lists every combat unit in the Combine) and they had only ~75,000 infantry and several thousand mechs. You shouldn't be able to garrison ONE major world with such a pathetically small military.
