Not in my case, my dog is a psycho, he barks and jumps at random people. Course, he's only small and he is my dog, so if someone turned and kicked him like this guy did, I would probably shoot as well.

I'd just expect to get sued afterwards. Actually, I'd lie and say he was trying to mug me, but if people didn't believe me I expect I would have to pay big time.
