It really depends on what you're looking for. WoW is an apt name for Blizzard's crack. It is visually stunning, and a real blast at first. That being said, it will gradually demand more and more of a commitment to get anywhere. That commitment has its ultimate manifestation in the daily quest, where you can repeat one event every day for nearly a year before getting a faction to give you the item you want.
Lord of the Rings is more sedate, but ultimately more satisfying. Their deeds make for a constant quest to discover things and add small touches to your character. I don't get snared into it the way I did with WoW, and I don't think anyone will look up from it and realize it is 3AM. But it isn't a game I expect to quit either. I still feel like there is much more to explore and do in the game. It also offers a lifetime membership, which I think is a very sound investment for any of these MMO games.
Ultimately, I'm sure most everyone on the forums has played WoW and loved it briefly. I've quit it 3 or 4 times myself, and was able to resist its last expansion. Lord of the Rings is a more savory and filling game. You can enjoy it for a much larger period of time.
WAR, on the other hand, is the outlet for your violent aggression. If you are in a game to 'pwn nubs', then you can't find a better MMO than warhammer online. Its best feature is the separation of the pvp into tiers, which allows you to strive to maximize your gear at each of 4 different levels. The fact that other players drop good loot is also very nice. I do miss Shadowbane's old system of taking all of your opponent's things when they died, but I suppose that was a little too hardcore for most people.
