My IG vehicles for the most part are as much display pieces as they gaming pieces so I put a lot of effort into individualizing them and trying to give them something of a personality so they get named. I also use a numbering convention based on how we number aircraft squadrons on carriers- 100 series: super-heavies, 200 series: LRBT, etc.
Hellhound: Robert Johnson (if you need an explanation go ask your grandfather)
LRBT Squad: "Oddball's Misfits"
LRBT 200: Oddball Special
Commanded by 'Oddball' Sutherland and modeled after Oddball's Tank in Kelly's Heroes anda picture of an M60 Patton on patrol in Vietnam covered in rucksacks, easy chairs, makeshift tent, etc. It has a large megaphone strapped to it and a fake Vanquisher cannon strapped over the regular barrel. I've also modeled a crew / Kill Team character set for it.
LRBT 201: The Misery Chick
The commander in the cupola is a short, brown haired woman. (Used an SoB head on a TC body)
LRBT 202: Old Virginia II
A Mars Pattern Alpha hull mated with a Vanquisher cannon, so it's a rare, very ancient piece of hardware. I named after a Robert E. Lee quote
Shadowsword 100: Big Blue
Tried forever to come up with an awesome name. Then I figured most guys working on/around it would just call it Big Blue.

I name my Tanks after my ex-girlfriends, (as they tend to assplode) and my dreads are named after dead family members. Cheesy? Yes, do I like it? Yes, is it funny watching things die to tank called Lizzy? Totally.
My brother calls his tanks more traditionally. His Landraider for instance is christened "Sudden Death."

Its not that ridiculous mate. I am brand new to 40k and I like the concept of having names for vehicles. I may very well do a nice banner on the side of my landraider that says "SLEPNIR".

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

For my Chaos, I have not named any of my Rhinos, but the vehicles that are army "centerpieces" get names:
My Land Raider is named the "Mouth of Madness" because I converted a big, spiraling greenstuff tongue to stick out of the assault ramp.
My Dreadnought is Casus Rex (latin for "fallen king) because part of my fluff is that the current Daemon Prince captured the former leader of the 8th Company and imprisoned him in the Dread.
My Predator is named "The Bone Wagon" because it's treads are broken and have been replaced by skeletal feet, it has skulls for the "targeters" on the sponsons, and it has a skeleton controlling the turret.

Ah, trolling. Remember folks, feeding the troll only makes it feel as though it has achieved something. Instead of realizing it's spending it's time trying to annoy other people.
And naming tanks is apparently sad...

I name or number all my miniatures, including tanks. It's a part of their personality. So far I have:
Baneblade - Killer of Giants
Malcador - Harvester of Sorrow
Malcador Defender - Invictus
Medusa - Cnaeus
Medusa - Magnus
Griffon/Salamander - Betty
Hydra - Dragon Slayer
AdMech Cyborg Sentinel - Corpsegrinder
I figure I'll get a Reaver someday, paint it red, slap a powerfist on it and call it the Right Hand of Doom

Hi Raven322,
I have some ideas for my vehicles. See, I play Sisters of Battle, and I had to hand paint Fleur de Lys on the Rhinos, and they look terrible. So the two I have done are named 'Wilty' and 'Weedy'. But it's not all absurd, a good friend gave me a fully painted and assembled Immolator as a gift! I am naming it 'Ravenwood's Wrath' after his character
Fun question, thank you!

but, probably most humourously, I have a shoota boy called 'eadless eric simply because I lost the head mid game and won't replace it for humour lol
