Hey there dakka, welcome to another one of my painting and modelling blogs, as you are probably not aware, I also have a skaven plog and a mordheim plog, neither of which really amounted to anything...

But recently I have been able to find the time to actually get round to painting things again, after much time lacking such precious free time. To cut a long story short, my grandfather passed away in January and since then I have been staying with my grandmother most weekends. Now I find myself with a good chunk of time on the weekends without access to a whole bunch of distracting stuff and a good deal of Discovery Channel, and so I have finally taken up my cutters and brushes once again for at least one day a week.

Thus I have tasked myself with updating my long stagnant orks. Orks have always been a love of mine, and were in fact the army that got me into 40k to begin with (2nd edition starter box), so I've been slowly adding stuff to the army over the years. A brief hobby surge throughout uni left me with a bunch of models which really were not painted to my satisfaction and I grew tired and frustrated with them, so I put them in away to concentrate on my Skaven (which have also stagnated I am afraid).

But now I feel the urge to paint my boyz once again, and so I intend to document my progress on Waaagh! Edsmusha right here on Dakka, and hopefully the C&C I get here will stimulate me enough to keep on painting

So without further adieu here is the first entry in the blog. Nothing too amazing, just a colour scheme tester for my Tankbusta unit, Da Kan Openaz:

Apologies for the picture quality, I didn't have my camera with me so took them on my phone. This is the general colour scheme of my army, black and red. The base still needs painting but it will be horrible muddy brown (glossed over with pva so it will look nice and wet) as fits the fluff of the army

I really like the simplicity of this scheme, although I am not too happy with the codex grey highlights on the black areas, I'm thinking of switching to Astronomican Grey. The other issue I have is that the overall scheme seems a little dark, so if anyone has any ideas on how to make the reds pop a little more without changing it too drastically I'm all ears.

Anyway, that's it for this entry, thanks for reading and don't forget to leave some c&c (or at leave one c at least, which one depends on your judgement of my painting abilities )

Yay! Update Time!

If you haven't noticed, I don't get a lot of hobby time and this explains the huge gap between first update and this one, and why I haven't exactly done much in that huge gap...

First up is some WIP of my Stormboyz mob, Da Krimson Kapz.

This guy is basecoated, needs an all-over with Badab Black then it's upwards from there. The riot shield is from the Trukk Kit, the club thing is from the bike kit.

I know that Stormboyz can't take burnas, but I thought this conversion would be awesome enough to warrant it. No special rules just a regular boy with slugga and choppa. The only problem I'm having is I can't connect the tank stuck to his rokkit pack to the burna, having trouble finding a pipe that is flexible enough to fit. I was thinking of using GS wrapped around a bit of wire, but that always ends up looking 'crinkly' (becauseI can't make a smooth curve if my life depended on it).

Also, a few more standard WIPs of Da Kan Openaz

My latest painting session has led me to two conclusions:
#1 - I have realised I don't really like the red gore as a colour on these anymore, I need a brighter red so stop the scheme from looking so dark. I don't want to go as bright as Blood Red. Maybe I will have to have a look at the new GW paints for inspiration.

#2 - I need to stop using drybrushing as a crutch. Looking at the armour plates I realise that drybrushing boltgun to make scratched armour looks awful, so I'm going to have to take the plunge and try to improve my skills by painting on chips/scuffs/etc without drybrushing, and improve my ability to highlight large flat areas.

So in conclusion:
  • C&C, random verbal abuse, helpful hints etc

  • Suggestions on how to do the pipe on the Burna stormboy

  • Suggestions on how to improve my scheme

  • That's all for now folks!

    EDIT:
Also, Forgot to post this, just a preview of how I intend to arm my Tankbustas with a 'proppa' tankhamma!

    OK update time!

First up is two big shoota boyz from my shoota mob. Nothing amazingly awesome. These are the OOP metal ones, to replace the AoBR ones I currently use (and the more I look at, the more I think look ridiculous). This is the basic scheme I've got going on now, black top, funky levi's and red armour.

And a shot of one of the backpacks.

This is also the basing scheme I'm going for, mud and barbed wire. I still need to weather these guys (and, incidentally, learn to weather minis) but it's good enough for now.

The next pics are accompanied by a little ditty I thought of:
Two little tankbusta's rokkits lit up
Two happy orkses all tanked up
Got kicked out of the clan 'cos da warboss had enough
cos the Waaagh! had no more tanks because they blew them all up

One with tankhammer and one standard rokkit boy.

The more I look at the rokkit boy the more I think I could do a better paint job, but I've got too many to paint to go back over it

I'm really proud of this chap though, especially how the 'proppa' tankhammer turned out

As usual, C&C and verbal abuse welcomed, stay tuned for more!

hey folks, long while since my last update but i havent had much time to do anything with the hobby other than talk about what im going to do when i have hobby time. So anyway with a few days off work i intend to get some stuff done and post it upon these forums for all to belittle

First up is a WiP of the 'Dr Lobster' mini i picked up from Armorcast earlier this month, I've also got the 'folder' mini but thats still in the baggie, i have some plans for that that will soon be revealed

as you can see, not much more than a basecoat and wash so far, skin is GW evil sunz scarlet with asurmen blue wash, pants and undershirt thing is GW space wolves grey with same wash.

Yes the white is very flat (about 6 coats of GW ceramite white), mainly because as its both the most noticable and largest area i need to make a good job of it and im hestitant to start ruining that lovely even white coat

Hey guys, been a long time since I posted a P&M last, but this time I am honestly going to try and make a bit of an effort to blog my hobby masses.

First of all, I've been in a real slump for a good 6 months now, I haven't really had much enthusiasm for anything and I've found myself becoming miserable and jaded, I won't bore you with self-indulgent whining but I've realized one thing I really lacked was motivation, so I've made an effort to really get back into gaming as a way to push me to get things done, which will hopefully spill over into other aspects of my life that I've really let slide over the past few months, (like my professional and social lives). Hopefully it will make me a better person and get me out of this horrible nihilistic funk I've been in for far too long. I still don't have much 'hobby time' but I've been able to attend a gaming night once a week for a good while down at Firestorm Games in Cardiff, I've mainly been playing board games, but recently I feel the need to paint minis rising up in the back of my mind, so I thought why not!

As far as games are concerned I'm pretty much done with GW, like most people my reasons are down to their corporate image and I've just lost a lot of love for the game that got me into this mess in the first place, however, clouds with their shiny metal outlines and whatnot, that means I can explore other areas of the gaming world, and with a few days off work over Easter I intend to try and catch up on my growing pile of unpainted stuff. I've gotten into Bushido, and I've just sneakily

Anyway, first up is a mini from my Bushido warband, it's a great little skirmish game that I'm entering into a tournament in June (despite not having played a game since last August ), so I've got to get my minis painted up by then (luckily, at most I'll have about 10 minis, but considering I started this guy last July and I've only finished him now, things aren't looking too good .

Anyway, here is Zuba the all-seeing, an Oni from my Savage Wave warband:

All this chap needs is a base (I still haven't decided) and some OSL, which is what those white 'brush-slipped' bits are (they are supposed to be deep wounds, and since Oni are supposed to be creatures of myth and legend, I decided that he would have light coming out of the wounds and his single eye, so it looks like magical energy spilling out of the cuts in his torso), I just haven't worked up the courage (or thought of a good colour to use) to paint the OSL on yet in case I bugger it up

Next up will be some more Bushido minis, and stay tuned for some more Bushido minis, probably some miscellaneous stuff and maybe some Infinity (I've just got myself a bunch of Nomads) if the package arrives during my week off

p.s. oh, and if anyone has any suggestions for a good colour for the OSL, please let me know

Hey guys, quick update, just thought I'd show off my new haul (and probably the last for a while, weddings are expensive). Ordered them Easter Sunday, got here today (which is pretty damn good with the bank holiday Monday, when any useful things in the UK such as refuse collection/delivery services/other public services all go into shutdown).

Arrived today while I was cleaning the front windows & door:
Bakunin Jurisdictional Command starter, extra Zero, Daktari, Reverend Custodier, (Infinity) and Tra-peng the Bakemono Trapper (Bushido). Got these from Firestorm Games, fantastic FLGS based down in Cardiff, S Wales.

Oh, and a couple of suitably cyber-punk d20s from The Dice Shop Online
Stay tuned for some work later today

Edit: Also, no, I do have some self control, I finished cleaning the front door before I tore open the packages to take the pic

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok so as promised here's today's update!

First up is my Bakemono for my Bushido warband:

Still a long way to go yet, but I'm going for grey skin (since they are supposed to be creatures of the shadows) with glowing orange eyes and green clothes. Here's two that I'm particulary proud of, first we have a Bakemono Bushi striding towards his frightened victim, and a Bakemono Archer reaching for a fresh arrow as he stalks his prey

Please excuse the messy paintjobs, I'm trying out the 'inside out' painting approach, where you paint the innermost details first, so you can cover up when you accidentally 'go outside the lines' when you do the big areas like skin/clothes. Next up, a WIP set of bases for my new Infinity models:

Simple to do, I just filled the slots in with all-purpose filler, then glued some wire mesh to the top. I'm going for 'dirty city-ship corridor' bases, since the fluff of the Bakunin is they are sort-of police units, so I imagine they work in the areas of the ships less visited by the cleaners , so I'm going to be added some discarded food wrappers, flyers, used needles etc to the bases.

And, just a tip I picked up from another Infinity player at the FLGS. When cleaning up your minis, give them a good wash with something, such as a GW wash (I used Badab Black) or a dark-coloured ink, etc and it will pool in the recesses, including recesses made by missed mold-lines:

It's a little hard to see because my phone has a terrible camera, but notice how the wash showed up the mold-line I missed on the trigger hand

Anyway, that's it for now, see you soon fellow Dakkanauts!

So I've finally started getting to work on my lovely new Bakunin models, and I'm not 100% on a colour scheme yet. Here's a pic with a rough test of what I've come up with so far:

I'm quite please with the Reverend Moira, and I like the Moderator, but it's quite a common scheme to use and I was hoping for something a little different. I'm trying to put across the decadent weird side of Bakunin, so I was thinking if I spiced it up with unusual skin tones, crazy hair and tattoos/etc it might look a lot better...

    Would love some feedback folks

Once again, long time no posting, mainly because I don't have much time to paint, let alone write about it.

    Anyway, just a quick update.

So, I finally decided on a nice colour scheme for my Bakunin Jurisdictional Command, but I screwed up the painting, so they need to go back into the Dettol (although as they are all metal models, I've been recommended Nitromors as it's a wee bit more potent...)

And for my Bushido Savage Wave, well I want to try out the Oni Slaves, but I didn't fancy buying more models, so I went and started converting up two bakemono who have 'disguised' themselves as Oni, first step was combating the height difference:

For those who want to know, the mask is actually a press mold of an old 40K ork warbuggy banner top.

    Stay tuned for more folks

I really need to pay more attention to my Plog Thanks for the good wishes, wedding has come and gone and was a excellent adventure for all involved. The greenskins, despite always holding a place in my heart, probably aren't going to see the brush for a long time, I've kind of moved on from 40K to other systems for now. But I've got plenty of other toys to be painting and showing you all

    Speaking of which:

I haven't done any painting since my last infinity update, everything ended up soaking in dettol for a while becuase I hated the way they had turned out.

That being said, having used this guy in a game yesterday, this generic combi rifle zero critted a mobile brigada and an alguacil, while netting me 2 objectives. So I felt that he needed to be painted up as a reward for his outstanding performance. It's a very early WIP, but I'm incredibly proud of the helmet on my Zero, getting a crisp white is incredibly difficult, and I think I've finally found a technique that works for me. Of course since it takes the patience of shaolin monk to paint white, I've found the best way to paint it is to do one white area, then paint another part, then another white area etc just to break up the frustrating part. I tried to do a little freehand on the eye as well (went for a clockwork orange style vibe) but I'm really chuffed with how the head turned out, and it's really dragged me out of my painting slump.

I also did these, I just didn't feel the official tokens had that '4Chan in Space' thing the nomads had going on, so I created my custom 'Memetic Entity Monitoring Emblems':

They need a spray of varnish to protect them from the bumps and scratches in the heat of battle, but they are more-or-less done

Ah well, here's to hoping I remember to update this thread on a greater than bi-monthly basis!
