I'm excited, too! This will be my first GamesDay, even though I've lived in Maryland for 15 years, and Baltimore for 8! My younger brother is also driving up and will be there with me (although he doesn't currently play 40k) so I think it will be a great experience

good to see the PA boyz taking over this thread

ill be there once again, though i am losing faith in gamesday, i look forward to.........casual gaming, checking out good painted stuff, dodging little kids, oogling the one decent looking chick, ignoring GW fanboyz then downing some food while checking out ladies.

sounds like a normal saturday at my LGS followed by red robin then watching internet porn until i pass out with wet paint on my sweat pants and a paintbrush in my mouth.

i will be plasyin epic early, getting smashed by salvage in BFG then orcistrating some sort of mega battle madness with pink marines with claws and chainsaws for dongs!

gamesday HO!

Hey guys, your thoughts:

Do you think if I bring some models that are not finished painting, or only primed, to this GD that I would not be allowed to field them? Like a primed Titan for the Big Game, or Stealers I haven't dipped yet, etc etc? Don't wanna bring it down if the consensus is they are not allowed.

Also, anyone want to team up or duke it out on the Big Game table, just let me know!

Sure, I am going to GD. Not sure why, as I won't spend anything (especially not if that is what FW is charging at the event). I don't like lines. I'll check out the studio and FW coming soon stuff, look at GD entries, attend the 40k seminar, and that'll be that.

Sorry spartan. Looks like I drove this train right off the rails by mentioning our groups Hooters escapades. I've been going to Gamesday since 2001 and its lost a little excitement for me.First time I went I was amazed by all the stuff to see and do. This will be my first year bringing my army to play. I'm sure it will be lots of good fun. I hope you have a great first Gamesday.

PS: If yor playing nids I hope you don't use all genestealers as troops like someone else I know did.

Thanks harbringer. I really appriciate that. and its fine about the hooters.

EDIT:Nah im a space marine player. And a funny thing about the genestealers is i was at the glen burnie battle bunker last year.
And they were doing the finals of that GW acadamy and they do a megabattle at the end so this guy fields tons of genestealers and he gets
them all into close combat at one time and he had to roll like 300 dice they cleared a table just for the dice they were all pouring them into this big jug they rolled em all at once the whole ordeal took like 30 minutes

Me neither, which is why I haven't seen the GD entries the last couple years. Internet usually provides, though it is nice to see all the entries, not just the winners.

You know, I think my first was in 2001 too. But I took a few years off, when the price was rocketing and the excitement dropping. But bringing your own army (and your own friends ) makes it a lot more exciting ...

We finished our Games Day display at about 2:30 am, and started loading up 1500 figures and a friggin big city. Kissing my kids goodbye and heading to Baltimore in a few minutes for set up, then off to the Wharf Rat, (or whatever they call it this year) for beers and wings.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

Also, I PM'ed you Salvage to see if there's some way I can see your game of BFG, I'm looking to start it and I'd like some inspiration

Hopefully I'll see a few of you tomorrow!

Personally, I don't see why we don't go to a REAL strip club. It isn't as though the food is worthwhile, and if we are going to oggle, I would feel better if it wasn't next to a table of 12 year old little leaguers.

Your kidding, right? PLEASE tell me your kidding?

You ever been to a titty bar in the Baltimore area? I went ONCE. Hustler Club, just a few blocks walk from Hooters there in hte Inner Harbour. The girls could get naked on the runway, naked sitting with you NEXT to the runway; but if you went in the back they had to have a top and bottom on. Cameras EVERYWHERE, one in each stall in the back. The nudity rules were the big thing for me, honestly.

Well, see, that's cause you went to the Baltimore Street clubs, which sell alcoholic beverages. Instead, of those, you need to go to a "private" club that is BYOB. Costs a bit more to get in as you pay both an annual membership fee and a cover charge, but on the flip side, you're carrying in your drinks and not spending $12 on a beer. No such restrictions as you describe exist at an extablishment which does not sell alcoholic beverages, ie no requirement for a physical barrier between the patrons and the entertainers, g-string only lap dances, etc. I personally recommend the Wagon Wheel, up in north Baltimore...................

Oh yeah, and I'll be there, probably tonight, hanging out at the Wharf Rat (or whatever it's now called, heard it got bought out).

I own Showcase Comics in Philly, a couple of us at the shop, and 4 guys from Big Gunz Northeast, are putting on a Pelanor Fields recreation using the new War of the Ring mass battle rules. Been painting orcs and Rohan cavalry for two months straight.

And I get weird compulsions to build scenery, so the end of the table will have a model of Minas Tirith, a little over 8' wide, 6' deep, and about 7' high to the top of the tower.
Just look for the honking big, white city.

So any one else have fun today?

Other than making one HUGE mistake- getting in the Forge World line, spending 2 hours in it and then being told they didn't have ANY of the pieces I wanted on hand- I enjoyed going, admiring the many super-heavies at ApORKalypse Now, the Golden Demon stuff and the Army on Parade. I got some ideas for my own Shadowsword looking at the stuff on display. Oh, and picking up that Dan Abnett story they had there. That ruled too.

I also want to say you Ork modellers are some of the most inventive people on the planet.

If I were you I definitely would, last I heard GW was planning on making these events more worthwhile and adding more seminars and stuff to do, and all I've heard is that it was terrible. So yeah, definitely write that letter and tell them what you think. Demand a refund maybe?

They didn't even have crap for rumors from what I can tell, the ONLY GD pic I've seen surface is the one with Vulkan and Khan models, and I have to ask why the feth is Khan on foot? Is that not the most pointless model ever made, who's going to take Khan and NOT put him on a bike like he should be? Cool model, but pointless in my opinion. No, I did hear one other thing, supposedly there are NO 40k releases planned for this year, according to someone on another forum they say they're redoing Necrons, DE, SW etc. and they got their hands full so it's going to take them a while to come out with any of the books. All second waves and Planet Strike.

If that's true then this is going to be one disappointing year.

You know, it was my first ever GD, and I was really disappointed. Nothing like I imagined it would be. The only thing that made it worthwhile was the terrain Make and Take, which I got to take about three boxes worth of stuff (with help of friends). Not a fantastic event, by any means.

So, where are those Indy Cons going to be at? I still need my fix.

If you include a return address, he may even respond. I sent a complaint to this address once and received a lovely, generic response. I doubt it did anything, but if more people would actually tell these guys what is wrong, rather than complain about it among themselves, there is always a slim chance they may react accordingly.

I gotta say that I was also very disappointed. There wasn't anything to do besides the conversion contest and the terrain make and take (which my friends and I looted the gak out of. We easily walked off with 2-3 complete Imperial Sectors and a manufactorum). Sure, there was the 40k big game, but I went over there and saw nothing but a bunch of screaming 10 year olds and randomly yelling WAAAGGGGH! every five seconds. A good number of clubs who were supposed to run tables didn't show up.

The only seminar that would have been worth a damn was the studio seminar. Even that was disappointing due to some "technical difficulties (they couldn't get the projector to work) so they basically rehashed for the millionth time how they come up with ideas for miniatures. Also, the smell in the seminar room was horrid!

The store was also a nightmare. It took an hour to go through the line for me and there were only five people in front of me. They had black shirts at the register and it was like they had forgotten how to use a register.

All in all, the event itself was a huge let down. This was the first Games Day I've been to since 2001 or 2002 and I have to say that I was shocked how much the quality of the event had declined. There weren't even that many people in costume (except for a guy who made a complete suit of Tau armor, he was awesome!) Unless something changes, I don't think that there is any hope of me going next year which is a shame because Games Day used to be so great.

Pros: The Iron Fist League 40k in a Flash Tourney

The ubercake.

Seeing golden demon models up close.

The armies on parade IG DKoK army that I saw.

Cons:

No open gaming. At all. None. Maybe you might want to have people play your goddamned games at a gaming convention.

I registered in march for the Armies on Parade. I didn't have a chance at winning, I knew that. It would have been nice to be on the ballot, GW. Or to have a printed name card. Like everyone else. They can't even get that right.

It was primaraly as Makov said. "Here's some cheap free stuff, now buy stuff or get out".

I'd rather spend several hundred dollars on getting to my first adepticon than ever spend $25 on Games Day again.

im definatly feeling adepticon next year.

i was not pleased when i saw ZERO terrain for casual gaming. cool, they left us some blank 8 x4's to play on. last year there was plenty of room for casual gaming, full terrain and all that. there was no tourney this year so i KNOW they had plenty of terrain SOMEWHERE.

i got the vibe that they didn't care about the players who already pumped alot of money into the hobby, they wanted the younger, newer crowd to get their hands into it, buying stuff at the store.

sad.

I went, and at first I did feel like you guys, that this was a couple gimmicks centered around a store, but after adjusting my expectations I think I had enough fun to warrant 25$ and a trip to Baltimore. I think the key was that while GW didn't necessarily appreciate their players (after all they've been threating us that they'd stop doing it if we didn't go for atleast 3 years now) the individual gaming clubs and other players did. I had a ton of fun just wondering around and learning about LoTR and playing little offshoots of the tabletop games. The 40k Big Game is always fun just for the spectacle and while the Warhammer Big Game was kinda gimpy although it did have a beautiful giant hydra. All in all I'd say I was a little dissapointed but managed to make up for what I thought was lacking by making my own fun.
