Definitely the death penalty carried out the quicker the better. I personally know people that have been victims of some fairly heinous crimes that had to watch as the guilty parties got off with a plea bargain.
Nothing can piss a man off faster than seeing the effect this has on the victims.

Slightly off-topic but uhhh, there is one thing that's bugging me: the executioner. The guy who pulls the trigger, flips the switch or whatever. Finding a person willing enough to kill people can be emotionally taxing, no matter how stable they may be. Sure, YOU, the mighty forum dweller might be up to it, but in all seriousness, what of the mental state of the hangman? I know in Texas the firing squad is issued with only one life round, the other rifles have blanks so the men firing never know why fired the lethal shot.

They don't have firing squads in Texas. Actually there are no firing squads in any state in the Union (not including the firing squads political parties occasionally do-but they form up in a circle and shoot the guy to the left in those circumstances...)

Hmmm, so much for the magazine "KIJK" (Look) being a credible source of info then. But the point remains, what of the executioner? Someone has to flip the switch and carry the burden for the rest of his life.

Its a false problem. Here's Frazzled's priority of who should get to pull the switch

Husband/Wife
Parents
Children

If none there, then give a homeless guy $20 to "push that button."

True, that's one way of solving the problem. It's just to me that something like that can cause psychological trauma to a sane person. Especially when people approve factory style killing where people are processed and shot as soon as possible.

If it were my little guy, I wouldn't hesitate to take the SOB and break him on the wheel .

Working "bottom up", that's a hell of a lot more work than just pressing a button.

I worked with a guy that used to sight in rifles for executions at Utah State Prison. What they did, if I understood him right, was mount the rifles in a holder and adjust for the condemned man's height, body structure, etc. He was as normal as any other person and never seemed bothered by being in on offing scumbags.
On the other side of the coin, what of people that work to get someone out of prison that should have been executed and the released prisoner kills or severly messes up new victims? What must go through their minds?

The way The Firing squad works around here was pretty darn cool.

You march your men in a line over to the armory and they get handed at random a Pre-loaded rifle. Key is they never got to see what was in the gun. Only 2 men in the squad had live ammunition, the rest had blanks.

This way nobody knew who had fired the two lethal rounds thus eliminating the "Moral" factor.

Wouldn't the blanks kick a lot less?

Pends on the rifle being used. I know Blanks for the M4 kicked damn near what live ammuniton did. However the weight was a dead giveaway.

From what the guy at the prison told me, a mounted rifle doesn't kick much at all. I'm not sure if anyone was issued blanks on the firing line because they wanted to make sure the condemned prisoners were killed with the first shots fired.

Get a machine to continually kick the person in the balls for 5 hours, then hang them.
If female, get the machine to kick them somewhere else, like the boobs, or the face.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

No they're getting off to easy.

Make them go to the DMV (Department of motor vehicles) to get their driver's license removed.
Every Day.
For the rest of their lives.

They'd hang themselves in a week.

Robespierre felt that people were basically good, but that a number of rotten people made things bad for everyone. He felt if society could get rid of the bad people, we’d be well on our way to utopia. He spent a brief period in control during the French Revolution, and cut off a lot of people’s heads. In the end people noticed that there were piles of dead people, but things hadn’t actually gotten any better, so they cut of Robespierre’s head.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

No no. You have to look into 'laws' like this. China does this and its highly suspect.

Prisoners are held on death row not until appeals are exhausted but until the organs are needed.
This is nort fair, does a prisoner have appeals cancelled because someone outside had a car crash?

Ultimately:
'We are not sure the guy didnt actually commit the crime, but his organs are compatible with the ministers sick daughter'.......

There was a lesson learned in the middle ages, and recently forgotten again. Don't try and make profit out of justice system, justice always loses out in the end. Justice is expensive, but the cost is one bourne by a civilised society.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Forever alone

Force them into hard labor for the rest of their lives. Really hard labor, like working in quarries with hand tools nonstop. I, for one, believe in the concept of redemption in most cases. For example, a one-off murderer or rapist could probably make up for his crimes after 20 years of labor.

A serial killer or serial rapist, however, should be locked in a 4x4 cell for the rest of his life with no human contact at all. His basic needs are shoved through a slot and he can stay in that room until he goes flying rodent gak and bashes his brains out on the wall or dies naturally.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
