I was teaching a noob how to play we had about 750 points each of SM and Eldar. He insisted on using the Eldar. He bunched all this troops together even though I told him not to. I had a damaged Dread and three dead marines and he had five men left after I finished my turn in the fourth round.

We all set up in teams for a big apocalypse battle.
4-5 per side.
In turn 2 my side unleashed a vortex grenade, but it scattered straight into the midst of my army, and took my tanks and 3 tightly packed squads. Then it continued to rampage through my army for the rest of the game.

Funnily we actually won the game, but I was annihilated. And I count that as a sort of loss. Even if it was from my own team.

I won a RTT recently against tau with my bike army, 2 objective mission. I decided to outflank the bikes and DS my terminators. Usually, I average out pretty decently with reserves, but this game was just unreal. Turn 1, my terminators arrive alone, and scatter 11 inches to right next to his pathfinders. his ENTIRE army pulled a 180 from driving towards my objective to shoot at them. He killed 7 of 10 TH/SS terminators and managed to pin them (lucky kill with a gundrone, and a 12 for pin check). The next turn, only one bike squad arrived, on the FAR end of everything. He continued to gun down the surviving 3 pinned terminators and ignored the newly arrived bikes cowering by my objective, behing a large building. Turn 4, 2 more bike units arrive, one behind him and one behind the first bike squad. The first squad boosted to near a hammerhead sneaking around the edge of the table, while he finished off the terminators, and blew away the bike squad that arrived near him. He set up an infantry squad on his objective and screened it with drones, and started to drive towards my objective. Turn 5, my command squad FINALLY arrived, and fired my first shot of the game; to kill a single gun drone screening the trops on his objective, allowing my first squad to assault them (over a fence, killing the sarge with a fist lol). I killed 2 firewarriors, and lost 2 bikes in return, tying. Since he had gone first, I rolled for a turn 6, and it came up as a 1.

Overall, I had killed 3 of his models, lost 2 squads, with another badly mauled, BUT I had won because he had spent soo much time trying to kill my termies and wasnt able to contest my objective, or keep me from stomping al over his.

Had a pretty bad win yesterday.
Kid in the club wanted to play against my eldar with his necrons. So we played a 1750pt game.

He had 1750pts of necron warriors, immortals, a lord with warscyth and veil, some wraiths (no orb), heavy destroyers, a monolith and the "death" figure C'tan.

His monolith was sitting immobilised and on 4 weapon destroyed results, but still alive (you need a 5 or 6 on a pen to kill them, unlike other vehicles. The power matrix can never be destroyed so it always has a weapon).
His lord and immortals were dead (hit with power weapons in combat) after my dire Avengers thinned them out. My banshees took out his wraiths on the charge.
I had a dead Falcon (bare - no upgrades), a stunned fire prism, a fire dragon (6man) squad, my striking scorpions, three DA, 2 shining spears and one banshee dead.

It was turn 3 and I phased him out. It wasn't satisfying at all. I like my games tougher. I kept my troops mostly away from the large blast of the monolith (he preferred to shoot at my fire-prism. He is new to the game (been playing WHFB for a few years, though) and he is learning.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

One time, my IG friend was expecting me to use my usual bad tactics. He has an infantry horde, i play a gunline tau (and rarely win).
Instead i suprised him with 100 outflanking kroot (who all managed to show up on the same turn on the same side of the board) and promptly massacred and ate him.

Cityfight; tau vs guard 2k. I was tau.

He had most of his forces on the left side of the table, in heavy terrain, with tanks all on one flank to protect his lines. My stealthsuits had a field day jumping in and out of los and shooting his squads futilely trying to grab the center objective, while I was able to get a pen-explode result ona chuimera in them middle of his gunline.

my railhead went around the flank, survived two battle cannon shots, retuned fire and killed a tank, and then my troops got on his flank and unloaded on him; I think I must have killed like 30 models in 2 turns at that point, plus all the poor guardsmen trying to grab the center objective, who were getting gun downed again and again.

The finale? I had to drive some vets off an objective, so I assaulted them with the stealthsuits, and killed them to the man. Sucked for him, but was my first big win with tau, after like 6-7 straight losses.

I had a win were nothing could go wrong for me, or right for my opponent.

Bikers failed 2/3 of their cover saves, a Farseer armed with a Witchblade dropped a Defiler before it could even swing its own attacks, and a Farseer with a Singing Spear beat down a Chaos lord in Terminator armour over 3 turns (the Chaoslords sword lost the poor thing a wound one turn, and the Farseer managed two wounds on the Chaos Lord, one per turn, and the Chaos lord only managed three wounds back on the last turn, so they both died.

P.M. me for rational Eldar Advice, both on list construction or Tactics.

Also feel free to query me about rules from the Eldar and Space Marine codices, as well as the General Rule book.

Somewhere.

I played a small game against Chaos Marines, or specifically three squads of foot slogging Khorne Berserkers led by Abbadon. Up against my Space Marines, which comprised of one Assault Terminator Squad (all lightning claws) a Chapter Master and Honour Guard, a librarian and two Tactical Squads.

My initial attacks put a fair dent in his forces as almost an entire squad of Berserkers fell to the Chapter Master's Orbital Bombardment. The other two squads faired equally poorly against massed bolter fire with a Plasma cannon thrown in for good measure.

By the time Abaddon, who had been lurking in cover, reached me was vritually alone. His bodyguard was almost gone. A second group of a handful of Berserkers charged the Assault Terminators. It didn't go well for them.

After a single round of close combat the only one left was a badly wounded Abbadon, while the Honour Guard had lost two members. He called it quits since the Terminators and a tactical could assault in the next turn.

2 come to mind in recent memory, one game (1850) was khorne berzerkers in rhinos vs my friends necrons (i was not playing) Chaos went first, they speeded forward. The necrons shot and immobilized the closest rhino, but did not kill any marines inside. Chaos turn 2: the zerkers were somehow in charge range, was able to triple charge into the necron lines, killed the necron lord with res orb, wiped out all 3 units, and forced a phase out. game ended with 0 kills on the necron side.

the other game was me playing Space Wolves vs Blood Angels (1850) it was a tournament game where the objectives would not be known untill turn 4, I held everything in reserve, he deployed in a refused flank formation, trying to deny my ability to split up his army. I kept a couple of land raiders with blood claws back on potential objectives, and I ran my rhino loaded with grey hunters and ragnar up the flank with a dreadnought to hit his force head on.

He charged into my dread with his death company and Dante, Dante got insta killed, and the death company got whittled down by the 3rd round of close combat, (his turn after he charged me) ragnar and his squad of grey hunters got out of the rhino and was assaulted each turn by units of 5 jump pack assault marines, but each time ragnar killed the unit before they got to even swing, and by the end of the game all he had left was 3 tactical marines on an objective, and an immobilized baal pred. I felt bad because he just couldnt kill 9 marines, 1 character, and 1 dread.

Armored company vs. trash talking necron player. I didn’t like the necron player. I actually played about once a week so reasonably decent in game play at that time. 3rd edition.

*Monolith, lots of heavy destroyers and destroyers (tweaked to kill armor). Long time ago but vaguely remember minimum troops. I had 3-4ish tanks, 2 basilisks, some sentinels, and troops.

*He farted around for twenty minutes with his people before setting up-no social skills. If you know me in person you know that this is paramount to a sin in my eyes. When I’m saying your social skills are poor it means you’re just this side of the Unabomber.

*Put the monolith in the center of the board (quarters cleanse type mission). After some arguing I physically “helped” him set up correctly by pushing his monolith into his quarter and gave him “the glare” and “the voice” used for errant kids (I probably would have just quit nowadays). I am really mad now.
Effectively pushes me into an L just larger than my tank length but at least it was legal. Sets up all other destroyers to rush me.

*I go first. The dice gods respected my rage
Basi 1 shoots and blows monolith
Basi 2 fires on heavy destroyers wiping them out or make them break
Chimera moves up, dumps ST’s. ST’s and chimera wipe out H destroyers
Sentinels move up and wipe out heavy destroyers.
Lemans fire on destroyers, wiping them out or making them break.

*Opponent concedes. I offer a new game but he says can’t win and storms off. No one else wants to play him.

Maximum Fatality!

The second game i played, was a special mission type, game at the Games workshop in novi, It was a Christmas one, with a Santa Claus modeled from a ogre on a chair, and with these little elf models, a Christmas town, some yetis, and "Santa’s pet". (they must have spent like weeks, setting up for this game) there was 2 teams, 1st team (defender) had to kill off three yetis in the attacker's team, and keep Santa alive (which was not that hard, lol. I don't remember exactly his profile, but he had all of these special little rules that were awesome). This team consisted of me, my brother, a friend, and some other guy who was standing there. The Attacking team had to kill Santa, while keeping at least one yeti alive. The Attacking Team was made up of another friend, and five other guys. Each player was allowed to take 1000 pts of models, with no organization chart restrictions.

Anyways, i was on the far right side of the board, playing marines (Captain, 5 terminators with lightning claws, assault squad, and 2 tactical squads). and across the table from me was a player with a gunline Tau army. which was something like this (srry, don't remember exactly what it was like, 5 years ago): commander with a guard of a single battle suit, 2 full fire warrior squads, a squad of kroot, Hammerhead, and a devilfish. This might not be the exact force, (if someone, seriously wants to go ahead and see if that's 1000 pts, then go ahead, but I’m not going to go shuffling through my basement looking for my old tau codex, just for this.)

Ok, Turn one, it went something like this: I moved my assault squad up ahead behind a building, to block Line of sight. I moved my first tactical squad into some cover. second tactical fired a missile at the devilfish, bringing it crashing down, in flames.

Turn two: Lucky roll for deep strike terminator and captain, i teleported them with some of my friends dark Eldar, which were assaulting an army of sisters of battle and some necrons. Assault squad hit a 10 man SOB jump pack squad, 4 marines down, vet sergeant only one left, 6 sisters dead. (From my assault turn and hers) Veteran Sergeant got three of them with his thunder hammer. And Thank God Vet failed LD Test, and fell back, unharmed. Both Tactical squads get into a fire fight with the Tau. I don't remember what happens there to much.

Turn Three: (oh yeah, forgot to tell you Termies get shot up pretty bad, only 2 terminators, and captain left) I charged a SOB unit, and get tied up in CC, They all ended up dead by the end of the SOB assault turn, but they took down a massive amount of SOB, and a couple necrons while they were at it. The Assault Captain Rushed towards the Tau Commander, and his body guard, crushing the guard with his mighty hammer, and made short work of the Commander. A squad of the savage kroot threw themselves at the Veteran, but He had the Emperor's blessing with him, and took, down a handful of the beast, and scattered the remaining cowards. The Tactical marines, Tactical Squad one, bearing the brunt of the tau fire power, had come out incredibly sturdy, and 6 Astartes still fought. Tactical two moved up to support Tactical one

Turn Four: One of the Tau fire warrior squads, realizing the danger that the veteran assault sergeant presented turned on him and fired at full auto. The Sergeant charged through the fire unharmed, with fury pumping through his veins at the sight of his captain hacked to pieces in the distance, and the fate of his squad. The sergeant vaulted over one of the scattered rocks, raised his hammer, and brought it down upon the head of a tau fire warrior. The Veteran killed with every shred of training and experience he had, taking down a score of the enemy. the remaining group of fire warriors dropped their weapons, and threw up their arms, but filled with the holy fury of the Emperor, The son of Gulliman, showed no mercy, killing them as he chanted the linities of Hate. The Tactical marines rose up with a great yell, inspired by the amazing feats of The lone assault marine before their eyes, and charged the tau line, gunning down the last of the foul xenos with burst of their holy bolters.

Turn Five: The remaining Battle Brothers of 1st Tactical Vanished in a deafening boom of a rail cannon. Fire, and Shrapnel slaughtering the squad. The Veteran Sergeant turned towards the Tau Battle Tank, and grabbed a melta charge from his belt, and started his jump pack. Small arms fire traced across his Brest plate, and he felt sharp bites, as shells attempted to tear through his amour. The Veteran Sergeant land on the hull of the hammerhead, and planted the melta charge. he spun around and ran faster than he could have though he could ever move. Until he tripped on a dead body, and the ground slammed into his face. The explosion ripping apart the hammerhead sent a piece of steel, no larger than a nickel, straight through the Sergeants skull.

well, my team ended up winning, but i only had a handful of Tactical marines that lives to see the end of it. But, reading some of these stories, just reminded me of how my sergeant teared apart a tau army. I was unbelievably lucky with his saves, and he managed to make the kroot and Tau fail their morale checks, and then in both instances, I managed to kill off the rest of the squad with a sweeping advance.

lol, oh yeah, I once beat a friend at chess in 6 turns, when i was in 5th grade. lol

Played against a friends Tau army when the current Marine Codex came out. First turn all his Crisis Suits had been killed by my Sternguard. Pedro Kantor and his Honor Guard rushed out of a Land Raider and shredded some Fire Warriors in a building and then proceeded to destroy his Hammerheads in the backfield. It was over by turn 4. I felt bad because he's a friend of mine who really wants to be good at 40k but he won't put the time in to get better.

Not one which I have had, but will have. I've got a punisher with Pask, and I'm going to put gatling guns on my vulture. One of my friends plays a horde ork army. Using only those two units, I should wipe out around 27 orks each turn. And then he comes within range of my other leman russ, 4 infantry squads with HBs, and various other troop killing choices.

It's going to be a massacre.

On one hand, you are probably right and it will be a massacre. On the other hand, now that you have bragged preemptively, karma might have it in for you. As an aside, he must have a horrible list if you actually manage to kill 27 orks in a turn from that setup. You mean he has no source of mobile cover at all? Shame on him.

I have 2, a worse win from two days ago, and a worse loss from I cant remember when.

I was playing a Nurgle Marine force with my daemon hunters pure GK list. 4 termies with 2 psi cannons, 2 dreds with LC's and two squads of 7 GKs with a incinerator vs a Daemon prince with wings, 10 summoned daemons, a greater daemon, and three units of five plague marines in rhinos. First turn I blast away with my LC's doing nothing, he advances his rhinos and daemon prince at my gunline. Second turn, I shoot to little effect, his whole army moves closer again, and his daemons summon, 8'' away from one of my GK squads. All of his PM's jump out. Oddly, he chooses to do this with all of his units ending their moves about 8" from my lines. I hose down the daemons with an incinerator and a bunch of storm bolter shots, 3 are left. I move and charge one of his units of PM's with a dread, which they cant hurt. I charge his Daemon prince with a Squad of Gk's that have holy incense, keeping a dread in reserve to repel the inevitable counter charge. In assault I kill his DP with my GK's and all but one of his plague marines with my Dread. His one remaining Plague marine summons a greater deamon who promptly eats my dread, but not before the dread caused a wound. He counter charges my Gks that were in assault with his DP, which are now only 3, with his last two squads of Plague marines. My GKs die. My turn, The dread charges into the two squads of Plague marines, who cant hurt him, and my Termies Psicannon the Greater daemon to death. Turn 3, he has 3 rhinos left and one summoned daemon. Oddly, I almost lost the game, because he managed to run the daemon to his objective, shielding him with rhinos, and contested the one objective I had with a rhino. I tabled him on the last turn of the game though.

Worse win someone had on me was painful to be a part of. I had 1000pts of horde orks-4x 20 boyz units, 10 storm boyz, 10x lootas. I marched my wall of infantry across the field at an eldar player, who was running Eldrad. I he was fortuned, I was doomed. Shooting took out a squad of 20 and half of another before I hit his lines. I a max squad of striking scorpions with Eldrad and a unit of guardians with 10 storm boyz. I bit off more than I could chew. They lost combat and were routed. The scorpions went of the offensive Eldrad fortuned them doomed my squad, assaulted the unit of boys, caused 8 casualties, I managed to cause 1, took fearless wounds. I was not in position to swamp the unit, so in my combat phase he munched the unit, and fortuned and doomed again, ate another unit, and then did it again. 12 scorpions killed all the boyz I had left on the table- 60 or so. I could not roll to hit to save my life (or my chances at winning) on the powerklaws I had in the units. It makes me feel slightly better when I found out later that the eldar player cheated slightly, keeping eldrad at the back of the combat preventing me from attacking him in the combat when he could have charged into base to base, which legally he must do, but still, damn. He ate my army single handedly.

If it makes any difference, I'm feeling bad for him preemptively. And yeah, he'll probably have some cover or whatever, but that doesn't mean that he won't be exposed sometimes.

Punishers are brilliant when applied properly.
