Just today, I was gluing some Boyz together at the FLGS when a kid who couldn't have been older than ten (and who plays Space Marines, apparently) started accosting me about how his army had "mool-tie-meltas" which would "splatter [my] guts everywhere." I explained that while those might be a problem, my Big Mek's KFF would give my Trukks and wagons a chance to survive once I'd built them all. My future 4+ cover save irritated him, and thus he continued to wax not-so-eloquently about the mool-tie-meltas and how their awesomeness outclassed that of everything else in existence.

I found it highly amusing.

I admit most kids my age are complete idiots. Though i have been palying since 9 (now 14) ANd was more mature then a few of the adults at the GW. It really depends on maturity, and what they value and who they look up to. most kids look up to rap stars, or "gansta's" then they try to act like them, where as I and most other nerds look up to people with intelligence. I've seen people 30 going on 10, and i've been described as 14 going on 30, it all depends on maturity.

it also depends on who teaches them the game, and how long they spend learning it, i play at my local GW, and most of the kids that turn up have been taught at the store and have spent over two months slowly learning the game, so they understand that you don't need to win in order to have fun and so they actually know the rules

I play with my 7 year old brother, it is not easy, constant tantrums and not playing by the rules, but its good to get them started young...though he is always messing with my vet squad..makes me anxious

Ive never played a battle against kids, but I have had to break up a fight between two twelve year olds once.

the little brats were not even fighting about who won the game, they were fighting because both of them had dice cubes(you know the plastic ones that GW dice come in nowadays) the problem was that one of them had a older cube, it had scuff marks and scratches on it whilst the other kid had a nice shiney new cube. Apparantly the cubes had got mixed up during the game and now the kid who found himself with the scuffed cube wanted his shiny one back, but the other kid wanted to hold onto his now shiney cube. So started the "it was like that when I got it etc" arguement, that eventually descended into a fight.

both kids got banned for a month because of that one.

P.M. me for rational Eldar Advice, both on list construction or Tactics.

Also feel free to query me about rules from the Eldar and Space Marine codices, as well as the General Rule book.

Krazy kids.

Ey, i'm 15 years old, I don't have a GW store near, but me and my friends, when we're playing, we're playing seriously. We use the Black Reach rulebook, but we know, if not all the rules, a big part of them.

Beying "a little sissy guy" isn't always a meaning of have 12-15 years, personally I think it's more a character thing than an age prob.

O H I am in the Webway...

Truthfully there are some younger kids at my LGS and I can't stand to play them. It's mainly because he sucks and I try to teach him and usually wipe out whole squads of boyz at a time because I focus fire and then he questions that and then tries to know the rules and questions something so I have to show him then... Then there were 2 other kids that just left the table every time we started our turn...

I wouldn't mind playing a "mature" 8-13 year old, even if they don't know the rules. If they are there to play then teach them and give them a game! If all they do is mess around etc. then ignore them.

I completely agree with 7744 said about the character thing too, I have faced kids my own age and they throw tantrums while this one kid (probably no more then 10) corrected me on a rule! I have heard of adult games there swear and cuss and are rude and complain and always argue, you have to judge people by there character not their age or look TBH.

I don't think age has much bearing on anything.

I've seen 40 year old men throw a whiney temper-tantrum when they're losing, "F*** this, I quit; this is a stupid game anyway," and I've seen fun 13 year olds. I remember being a teenager; I hated people my own age because I thought that they were immature...life aged me long before my time.

Don't hate on someone for being a teenager. Hate on someone for being a brat, or a stupid prick, or whatever - but those come in all ages.

I agree that kids can be mature and adults can be annoying. But I do prefer playing adults because of an aspect of the game no one else seems to have discussed. Conversation, with an adult I can have a more fun conversation. With kids I always have to watch my tongue, and alot of conversational topics will clash, outside of warhammer our interests and lives will probably be immensely different.

I'll agree with you there; conversation suffers when you're playing someone outside of your peer group. On the flip side, I have plenty of conversation during a game talking about our armies, paint jobs, tactics, codex items...stuff like that.

In a few years when I've learned everything about the other codexes, that may change, but in the meantime I have a lot of questions.

Personally, I talk through my turn, explaining what I'm doing as I do it.

For me I really don't care if I'm playing them if its just a pick up game even if they pitch a fit. I'm usually just like hell screw it....

But if it's a tourney I would just politely explain why the kid is wrong ect.... and if he pitches a fit I'll just sit there and keep beating them lol.

He was right. Berserkers have FC (+1 S +1 I), and Frags cancel the penalty that cover provides. Welcome to the realm of foot-in-mouth disease.

This kid was actually correct. Khorne Berzerkers do have frag grenades + furious charge, so they do strike at I5.

Sorry, I wasn't clear there. The Berzerkers were mine. He claimed that his tactical marines got a bonus for being in cover despite my grenades. Which is cheating. Either way I let him have it. Ended up tearing the tac marines to bits anyway.

I had a good experience recently against a kid who was significantly younger than me. He played eldar and beat me soundly. He obviously knew his stuff and had a very firm grasp of tactics. I watched him finish up the game he was playing before me (against a kid his age with bare plastic IG) and noticed the difference. One kid knew every rule and explained them to the other, while the IG kid desperately tried to argue that he could do x even though a quick read through the rulebook would have shown that you can't.

oops, didn't get this far. However, a little more clarity in your posting will help to keep that foot out of your mouth. :-)

Not all kids are the same. I have seen one kid who runs around the store while everyone else are acting fine. I myself am 14 and although I do have a few problems remembering every exact detail of the rules, I have read over the rule book AT LEAST 9 times to make sure I know most of the rules. I do not take it bad when I lose, and when I start a game I usually know I'm going to lose since I'm not that great with tactics yet and am just learning and although I've been playing for almost 8 months, I've only played a few games. I try to get my army painted at a steady rate although I do have other things like school which are more important. My painting is not that great but that is do to a naturally shaky hand which I try to make up for with hard work. I'm not a perfect gamer but I try my best and hate it when people say that all 8-15 year olds are immature, do not have a grasp at the rules, cheat etc.
Erm... I think I overdid this post a bit but I want to make a point of not judging a book by it's cover.

As a school teacher of 11 tp 17 year olds who enjoys a game of 40K I have run a few school clubs and offer the following: It really helps the younger ones to see the older ones play, particularly if they play in a sporting and polite way. Behaviour is learnt and best learnt from good role models.

On reflection, as a school teacher who has also had a couple or three tequilas (courtesy fathers day) should that be learned rather than learnt?

Best game of 40k i've ever had... er, okay, one guy over 40, and two mid-30s. SECOND best, however, was playing a looong time ago with a 13-year-old friend (while, i admit, i was also that young) who taught me to play. His models were well-painted, and he knew 90% of the rules by heart, and yet wasn't silly about enforcing them on people.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

Yeah, i've had quite a few similiar experiences.... I'm only 15 but my younger brother(11) will usually play to the 3rd round, give up(even if his shoota boyz managed to destroy a whole squad in one round of shooting(many many 1/2's on my part)) and it makes me mad because then he gets bored and starts throwing dice everywhere. He really likes the game just can't seem to finish one. He has ADD and i'm wondering if y'all have any tips to making it so he will be able to finish a game.

We, the participants of this thread, do sincerly apologize for having wasted your PRECIOUS time by FORCING you to read AND respond to this repeat thread. I mean...what the hell were we thinking with our story swapping and good time-having?!?! What a bunch of jerks we are! <place sarcasm here>

Allow me to let you know what annoys me: people spelling the word whether like this: wether - and people who write things like "who doesn't". And most importantly, people who drop into a thread to be a bummer.

On a side note - I only play with family members and we are all over 22. I have enjoyed your stories, though, and for you little guys out there - don't worry, man. If you're cool, the older guys will be able to tell right away.

People, I have a big Thank-you to say to you. I'm around 13,and to be honest I was terrified when I saw these threads popping up-They just seemed to be so everyone hate the little guy. As a pathetic player myself (I havent had a win in 3 months ), I know how annoying it is, but I never give up on a game if theres a still a chance. I'm glad somepeople can see past stereotypes, and look at the person underneath. So...thanks

Teaching my 5yr old to play Star Wars Minis atm, he's interested in playing 40K when he's older, and has told me he wants a Tau army from looking at Pics in White Dwarf.

He's getting the principle of wargamming down even at this early age, and I am sure that if he continues to play as he gets older he will not be the kind of player who throws a strop when loosing.

He is competive though, much more than me, maybe its his age, but when he looses he doesn't get upset, he just says something on the lines. Next time when we play, I'll beat you daddy. Hehe.

Its a lot of fun tbh.

As to other folks kids, I've run three Games clubs now in my time, usually with an age range of 11-17, and tbh I've seen just as many really mature eleven year olds, as immature older gamers. As folks have allready said, its down to the individual tbh, and partially how they where raised.
