oh and finally i absolutely love this thread. ive looked at it like every day for a couple of weeks XD
ohh i was thinking of buying an elaysien (yes, i cant spell) sentinel, but im not sure i want one now if it wont have the uber cool bars. without the bars it looks kinda like a normal sentinel.
Ha ha, yeah. She's a party animal and thus must have party animal friends who destroy houses. And since I'm Mr. B&Q I've been dragged into fixing it.
Elysian sentinels are supposed to come with rollbars but my girlfriend ordered two of them for me and neither came with them. I only found out a few weeks ago when I finally decided to build them but by then it was too late to complain :(
Foundation paints are simply fantastic. One of things GW actually has done right. I use them as both base colours for reds, beiges, whites, etc and as a top coat colour for some gasmasks and for my flesh as Tallarn flesh is by far the most realistic flesh colour GW actually do.

Sorry if I missed this as I was reading through the thread, but do you have any ideas for what type of HQ your army will be fielding?
Also, have any fluff for this army yet? That's my favorite part about any army.
Fantastic job!
Thank you for the kind words and for looking. I am slowly piecing together my HQ around everything else. I've almost finished my Exhaulted Champion (leader) but as he is being entered into Figmentia 2009 I don't want to make him public just yet. I will post a pic of my HQ squad thus far after I've entered him.
As for the fluff, I have been writing it down when I get bored on the toilet so it should be ready soon.

also, small question: I'm going to buy some WW2 bits for my future IG guys. do I go for bits that fit 28mm minis or a different size (or ratio 1:35 or something else?)
Thank you, also, for the kind words. Really helps me get a wiggle on and complete things. As for the bits, I like the West Wind Production 28mm heads you can buy. 1:35 infantry kits are perfect for weapons while 1:48 kits are perfect for equipment such as pouches and entrenching tools.

FoxPhoenix135 wrote:So how is the Griffon coming for you? I'm kinda stuck on mine.
Well, Griffon is coming along. I seem to be taking it slow with this one. It's almost base coated and I've somehow lost the mortar. It's on my floor somewhere but I'll be damned if I can find it. Here's a front view of what's there. I'm using the front hatch to house on of the crewmen (the spotter/commander). The loader/firing chump is standing in the rear. It's too small in there to hold two guardsmen leave alone a squad of Space Marines. I am struggling as to where to put the heavy bolter.
Bit late on the old update, I do apologise. Got a new car last week and because my girlfriend has gone up north for some work experience this week I am trying to do as much as I can to my army and do up the car at the same time. Got electricuted earlier as I neglected to disconnect the car battery while swapping the radios around
Anyhow, I have these works in progress to show you. I'm gonna be blitzing all of my baecoated armour tomorrow with pigments and, if I have time, mud. That's eight tanks!
I have had this for well over a year sitting on my shelf unpainted. Finally basecoated it yesterday. It's been based codex grey with a wash of ogryn flesh. Will be pigmentising it tomorrow (as well as giving it tracks).
Almost done basecoating the Exterminator.
The Russturm is coming along better than I had hoped. Pigmenting it tomorrow. Base looks a tad bright but don't worry, will be dulled in the weathering process
I was given this by ChaosBubbles last Friday. It's, err, missing some bits. So I'm trying to decide what to do with it.
My choices at the moment are to either buy the replacement bits off of BitsandKits and make it Alpha Legion or turn it into a Minotaur-style artillery piece:

I just find Space Marine tanks so plain and boring. If I'm not interested in what I'm painting I do it a bit half-arsed. Guard tanks are more interesting to paint and build.
FoxPhoenix135 wrote:I need to find a way to cut free the top hatch so I can put a spotter there like yours on the Griffon. If only I hadn't glued down that hatch...
Great progress on the paintjobs though. So what kind of car did you pick up?
Mine was glued on as well, lol. I just ripped apart the tank and bashed it in with a screw driver. That'll learn it to mess with me.
I picked up a '98 Vaxhaull (Opel) Corsa. Scuffed to buggery so I'm pretty much stripping it back and repainting. Hubs are drying as we speak. For some reason the radio I picked up is cheaper than the Corsa standard I was gonna buy from the scrappy. Comes with USB, AUX, CD and SD slots. Lord knows why I need an SD slot while driving but I ain't not complaining yo.

On the Land Raider note, if you're up for messing around a bit theres a hell of a load of stuff that fits in the heavy bolter/assault cannon socket:
Razorback weapons
The large weapon mount from a Defiler
Planetstrike quad autocannons, lascannons and comm units. I don't recommend the comms unit though, it looks really daft.
And finally, the truly mad one...
A Thunderfire Cannon.
Just thought I'd throw that out there, figured it might inspire you in some way.
Dragonlover
I am gonna be picking up a Defiler kit soon-ish for my next big project and a lot of the bits will be left over. I may see what I can do with it on the other Land Raider. Thunderfire is a no-no for me; don't like it. Now a Thudd Gun, that would be awesome!

And the gunner seat is just a Sentinel head cut and chopped to fit it.

Try somewhere like Bits and Kits in the UK. Or The Combat Company from Australia. Both favourites of mine and between them stock everything! And as for the tanks, go for something that isn't well-known. The French Char D-1 works well as do the US LVT. The Soviet T-28 is also awesome and I want one of them myself. I've also considered using Soviet T-26s as Sentinel proxies. Sorry for the abbreviations but that's what they're called Try Wikiing them to get a jist of the look.
I'm sorry everybody for lack of photographic updates. Been so busy with the car today but I have managed to get my tanks to a stage where all I need to do is mudify them and then varnish them then they're done. Will get snaps tomorrow. Russturm is completely done also.
In the meanwhile, feast your eyes on this puppy!
It's so bad but I love it. If you think it doesn't look good now, you should've seen it when I picked it up!!! Still not done yet

UPDATE!
I've done a little bit to my babies today. Been feeling quite tired so didn't get as much as I had hoped done. But here we go...
It's almost done. Forgot about the imperial eagles on the sponsons and had to take them off. Need to reapply varnish as it's gone silly buggers. Also need to finish the tracks and apply mud.
This Chimera again. Almost done now. Just need to apply mud.
Tracks for this are drying as we speak. I love how the colour of this has turned out. Did it slightly different from how I usually do my tanks. Still need to do final detailing on it.
Again, same tank.
One for FP. This baby is still a long way from being done.
Almost done this one. Again, need to finish tracks. Not bad for a 'reclaimed' Chimera.
This is pretty much done now. Chuffed with how it turned out in the end
Come on then, you smurfs! Charge THAT!
Not amazing but I thought I'd show the progress of this. It's sort of on the back burner at the mo.
You may have seen this in the P&M area. It's almost done! I'm still working on the shield and I am also waiting on some Light Dust pigments from my FLGS for the wheels. Tracks also need doing.
See above.
It's been a vehicle heavy week. I am going to focus on infantry again next week and get at least my HQ squad done alongside another heavy weapons team and an infantry squad.
Until then, thanks for looking!

Thank you for tuning in! As for the barrel, I can explain it. I took my inspiration from the Soviet T-34 as I always felt the Chimera had a sort of T-34 style to it. This is also why it is green. It's used in games as an autocannon.

For my own traitor guard I was thinking something along the lines of released rogue psykers. A world in uprising, the renegades would probably release all psykers currently holed up in the dungeons awaiting pick-up from the black ships. Sadly, the only model so far I have found is the Mordheim Witch model.
I've seen the same psyker squad. Very scary indeed. I want to use at least one child because of the one in Eisenhorn that takes down that Space Marine. That was just kick ass!
Released psykers on the loose is a good idea. Scourge the Heretic by Sandy Mitchell would be good inspiration for you if you haven't already read it.

ShadowAngel159 wrote:few more questions (ur helping me out big time so I'm gonna keep askin' 'em ha ha)
I still haven't bought my first batch of IG yet (lack of funds..... stupid car insurance and savings...), but I started thinking. What if I bought a box of fire warriors, then mixed them up w/ my guardsmen? give them a look like they've been killin' and lootin'. you think that could work? same w/ grey knights bits as looted armor for CSM.
also, I wanna use Tyranid limbs for mutations on CSM and/or IG. should I buy gaunts bits for good sized mutated limbs, or genesteelers? or another unit?
A few years ago I made a squad of guardsmen inspired by the Colonial Marines of Aliens fame. I mixed Firewarrior and IG bits to great effect. I loved how they turned out and I recommend it. You will need to greenstuff a lot of bits together but it does work.
Grey Knight bits mixed with CSM stuff would look good as well. Can't see why that won't work.
It depends on what kind of limbs you are after. Gaunt limbs are quite good for that sort of thing and with a little bit of work will look great. Genestealer limbs are amazing but aren't as varied as the gaunts. It all depends on what look you're after and I recommend looking at pictures of each and decide what kind of limbs you want. But it's an exciting idea!

I've found a CD of one my faviourite bands and I've been listening to it all day. Great inspiration for what I do, here's a taste:
Back down to business.
A renegade militiaman. Using a metal Tallarn I added greenstuff to the face to make a gasmask. It's still not done.
Command Rhino. All mudified up and ready to, well, command!
Chimera w/autocannon. Again, with added mud.
Griffon Mortar. Almost done!
Chimera w/Autocannon. To think this was covered in about twelve layers of paint once.
Leman Russ Vanquisher. Almost done, just need to weather the bolters.
Same again.
Lengfeld-Pattern Chimera. Almost done.
This next mini is my entry to Figmentia 2009. It's an online competition where you must create a character from scratch and build a custom base for it. Once done, a backstory is needed and then it can be entered. I've just added my entry so I can now reveal it to you all.
Behold my Exalted Champion!
And some fluff:
It is said, often by fools, that the Exalted Champion of this renegade war-host was once a bodyguard of 'The most august Regenz Ferdinant, Planetary Governor of Alamein' before the blighted worlds fall from the Emperor's Gaze. Alamein, a planet rich in promethium, was already the target of the Archenemy's subterfuge as key military officials had started a purge of personnel to ensure that when the dark revolution began no-one would be able to stop it.
For months Regenz Ferdinant was under the illusion that those being 'educated' within the ranks were worshipping the dark powers and took it upon himself to keep the local Ordos Hereticus Lord-Inquisitor updated in an effort to stave off exterminatus. To this end the governor placed responsibility of compiling these reports to a few key members of his government in the event of open revolt. His bodyguard was also given the responsibility to act on the governors behalf in the event of an evacuation of the Governor's Palace.
The revolt arrived and local authorities were powerless to put up even token resistance. The PDF, which was thought of as being cleansed, turned on the civilian population and massacred every Emperor-loving soul they could find. The planetary government was in complete disarray and it was at this moment the dark powers struck. During an emergency cabinet meeting, Regenz' bodyguard convulsed and butchered everybody within the room. The floor still slick with blood, he then made a report to the local Ordos claiming that all was under control and that the government had initiated an evacuation drill.
Years have since passed and as a sign of loyalty to his new deities, the former bodyguard has undergone surgery to fuse his weapons and armour to his flesh. As a sign of utmost fealty, his chosen cabal of elite warriors have done the same.
Now he musters the men for the defence of the Alamein system against the loyalist forces of the Imperium, clashing swords with the champions of the Ultramarines and the Shadow Templars while crushing the troopers of the Alamein Loyalist Remnant and Libertia Guard underfoot alike.
And as an extra treat, here's an Alamein Loyalist Remnant trooper I painted not so long ago.

Two years ago that loyalist was gonna be my main army and I spent about £100 on bits to make two squads. I had to paint this guy up as a reminder of that legacy. I'm using the old army in my fluff for my new army.
I managed to find two of the old squad left. Please remember that I made these about five or so years ago from bits. And take note that the weather today is amazing (i.e. raining) so the picture isn't that great:
And now for something completely different...
I'm sorry to say that I don't have anything in the way of an update but I can offer some eye candy and information. It's so dark here today I can hardly see. So, while waiting for these prison-style energy saving bulbs to warm up I took stock of what I had and, like a five year old, organised my troops and took pictures. Hurray!
This first batch is the stuff I have completed or more-or-less completed:
A- Quad-Stubber Leman Russ (Currently making another turret)
B- 'Hannut' Pattern Destroyer (Leman Russ Destroyer)
C- Leman Russ Vanquisher
D- Command Rhino
E- Griffon Mortar
F- Quad-Autocannon emplacement
G- Russturm (Battlecannon emplacement)
H- Chimera w/Autocannon and mechanised infantry
I- Heavy weapon teams (Currently 1x Mortar and 1x Sniper)
J- Infantry squad
K- 'Zippo' Pattern Leman Russ (Hellhound)
L- 'Lengfeld' Pattern Chimera and mechanised infantry
M- 'Elysian' Pattern Sentinel w/Heavy Bolter
N- HQ Squad
O- Chimera w/Autocannon and mechanised infantry
'Lengfeld' Chimera with infantry. I have kept this squad as a GW bits pure squad
HQ squad as it stands. Will be adding a psyker advisor. Will also get other guys so I can chop and change as I need to
The two converted Rhinos. Formerly of the Ultramarines chapter.
Some of the armour
This next batch of photos contains things which are still very much work in progress but I thought I'd share them anyway:
A- 2x Heavy Sentinels (1x Missiles, 1x Twin-linked heavy bolters)
B- Infantry squad
C- 'Gladiator' Heavy tank
D- Unknown heavy tank
E- 'Elysian' Pattern Sentinel w/multi-melta
F- Missile autoturret emplacement
G- 'Heretic' Pattern Leman Russ
H- Alpha Legion squad
I- Heavy weapon teams (1x Missile launcher, 1x Autocannon)
J- Leman Russ Destroyer
K- 'Liberator' Pattern Destroyer (Leman Russ Destroyer)
Alpha Legionairres. Still very WiP
Heavy weapon teams. Again very WiP
Some of the WiP armour
A box of guard bits I have to still work from. In here is enough to make another two squads along with another 2x mortars, 2x missile teams, 1x heavy stubber team, 2x Snipers and a lascannon team
Still to come!
Alongside all of the stuff I have to paint and build I already know what I'm going to get over the coming months to expand the army some more.
-Land Raiders
I have two Land Raiders waiting for stuff to be done to them. I am using one, possibly, as an Alpha Legion LR. The other I will be turning into a Minotaur style vehicle using Basilisk cannons and Defiler bits.
-Rhinos/Predators
ChaosBubbles is donating his old Space Marine vehicles to me. I'm yet to decide what to do with them.
-Space Marines
I have 50-ish Space Marines lying around. These will be made to be 'Loyalist looking' Alphas.
-Valkyries
Two Valkyries are planned and I will do them in the style of the V-22 Osprey.
-Vulture
A vulture is planned. I will buy some Valkyrie bits and shove them onto a helicopter kit or something then buy the weapons from Forge World.
-Hellblades
I have plans for two Hellblades
-Sentinels
I will be picking up another Elysian sentinel to complete a squadron. I will also be picking up three of these model kits to turn into 'Count As' Sentinels.
-Pysker Battle Squad
You already know I'm making this.
-Diciples
I've started to make some of these but I'm not ready to show them yet. They are similar to my Champion in appearence and will be taking heavy influence from the Strogg.
-FlaK 88 Emplacement
Already mentioned this but I haven't started making it yet. I have the bits for it, though. This will be something that can count either as an emplaced Basilisk or a Vanquisher emplacement. Whichever I choose on the day.
-Basilisk battery
Already mentioned this as well. I have some Basilisks in a box at my dads house and I will be picking them up in a few weeks. I intend to get some Vanaheim kits from Forge World as it will give the Basilisk a Hummel-like appearence
-Unnamed Terror Tank
This is my next big project after I've completed all that I have to hand. It's my little reward for doing so well. It will be a Tiger I tank but with legs. Always wanted to do it so I am.
-O.G.R. Squad
This is a squad that I'm very slowly building. I've almost completed one. It's what will be my Ogryn squad and they're essentially unmanned drones that take inspiration from these:

Yeah, that's the only real negative thing about the Vraks rules is the random leadership they get. Other than that, it's just juicy and makes for some interesting games I think.

Loyal Imperial Guard i may be but now whilst i have been looking for another interesting army to start i've hit upon the realisation that any army can be made interesting.
I was in two minds about collecting IG again, but now i have made up my mind, i certainly am going to now, but instead of all the shiney uniforms everyone seems to have, with perfect paint schemes on tanks etc i'm going to "weather" them all. Just like you have done.
I think IG have the scope to do this, they are just a human army afterall unlike Spacial maroons who are a lot less flexible what with all that praying and Uniformity wibble.
Thankyou for the inspiration!!
Fan-bloody-tastic! I'm overjoyed that it has helped you. Another blog that may be of some use, if you haven't already seen it, is smiling Assassin's IG one: Irkutsk 24th, Loyalist IG Log

I adore the way all your army is a mish-mash of ragged and varied bits and kits, yet it looks so cohesive with the limited colour palette.
Good times, and nice choice to add some Alpha Legionnaires too!
Thank you! I was worried that such an odd collection would end up looking stupid but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it is coming together quite well. I think it's because of the overall style of them that makes them uniform in a weird sort of way.
I don't really have much of an update for you guys today. Over the next weekend I'm at work and I have a painting competition to get an entry ready for. I did, however, paint this base last night while watching the Mentalist:
The dudes are only placed on there and aren't yet painted properly but you get the idea. Also, I have to do some more to my car this week. Got to get some electrics fixed plus I'm painting it matt black. Wish me luck!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also forgot to add that I have plans for, come December time-ish, to make at least one squad of drop-troopers which were once known as the Alamein Angels. They will be using the Elysian trooper bodies with grav-chutes and possibly using converted necron heads.

Not a huge update I'm sorry to say.
Just made this guy. Will be a Renegade Psyker.

Also found these chaps in one of my boxes. Will use them I think.

I think you've made a good call using smaller gun barrels on your tanks - I'd say you should keep it all one way or the other (Huge GW guns or realistic ones) - the mix is what usually looks strange. I do like the buried russ turret though.
A word on the 1/35 polish tankette - I just did one up to tow artillery. The tracks and running gear are a &^%$^%$! - tiny, fiddly, and composed of about a thousand pieces that don't go together very well (at least for me). I seal my stuff with Humbrol Spray Matt Varnish. It will react with some of the MiG fading pigments if you're using MiG stuff. I like the way it reacts as it looks like corrosion. Always best to test it on something you don't like. Brush on varnish will ruin the pigments as it just turns it into coloured oil.

Objective? I put two bases up there; one sniper and one valkyrie
I think what you meant to say was "I WILL do a blog sometime soon". If they're anything like your Fists, they'll be great.
Was rummaging through my bitz-corner and found out I have enough to make the following:
3x Lascannon teams
4x Mortar teams
2x Missile teams
2x Heavy bolter teams
2x Heavy stubber teams
2x Snipers
That's on top of what I have already (1x mortar, 1x autocannon, 2x missile launchers and 2x snipers). I've made one of the new mortar teams and done a base for a heavy bolter team. Also put together a lascannon with a shield (not GW standard).
I have my first proper game with these guys on Tuesday (I hope) at my local GW. Gotta get my paint on over this weekend. Will add pics on Sunday/Monday of minis and game pics on Tuesday/Wednesday.

UPDATE!! Sort of.
I had planned on having my first game with these guys Tuesday just gone until I actually sat down and tried to work out a list to use. It's all well and good oogling the Vraks rules but it's not until you get out that pen and paper and have to decipher each little bit of rule that you realise 'hang on, am I going to have enough for this?' It turned out that I didn't. So, in an effort to see what I actually need to do - instead of milling around on odd projects - I've decided to take some snaps of each squad/vehicle I want to include in my list so I can see the gaps and what needs tidying up. I'm hoping to get it all done by Tuesday but I very much doubt I will.
Headquarters
1x Exalted Champion - Plasma Pistol, Carapace Armour, Bionics and Master Crafted Weapon
4x Bodyguard - Carapace Armour, 3x Boltguns (No hellguns in Vraks list :( ), 1x Voxpack and 1x Flamer

Fast Attack
1x Hellhound - Heavy Bolter, RTM Dozer, Extra Armour
3x Sentinels - 2x Autocannons, 1x Lascannon, 1x Extra Armour
I need help with this one. Tore apart one of my beloved Heavy Sentinels to make a 3rd normal sentinel and now I can't seem to get it looking right.
Heavy Support
Heavy Weapons Platoon Command Squad
1x Champion - Boltpistol, Power Axe and Carapace Armour
1x Autocannon Team
1x Vox Renegade
1x Veteran - Sniper Rifle
Fire Support Squad
1x Autocannon

I have ordered the stuff from ForgeWorld for my Disciples. Just after Necron heads to make them.
And I have finished the Valkyrie Base!

On a more posotive note some of those would look eally good for this army, And the squads shots are really pulling them all together, they look grrrrrreat ! It's a shame they're not Frosties
Tenjewberrymud! The shots really do help as you can sort of visualise what you need to do a lot better.

Or would you rather run it for him?
Hell, I wouldn't mind it if someone did that. Damned tiring trying to figure all this out...

Anyway, the last update you did on the last page was pretty impressive infilTRAITOR. I'm looking forward to seeing your valk married to its base. I plan on buying one next month, if I am able, so the inspiration will be appreciated.
Again, TJBM. Valk should be coming together next week. Just finished the making a nose mounted multi-laser for it for a 360 arch of fire.
I bought some Space Hulk genestealers from Bits and Kits to give me something different to paint but I'm not sure if I've got the time now. Also, they still haven't shipped me a head I quite need even after chasing it up and reminding them to send it in my recent order. Typical.
I will also be selling some 40k stuff next week with some OOP stuff, old awful stuff and bits I'm never gonna use again. If anybody has any requests and might be interested in anything just send me a PM and I will have a look in my bits-corner and chuck it up. If I'm in a good mood I may even offer a Dakka discount
