Thank you. I really wanted a rag-tag ramshakle image for my army. No two men are alike. It sort of gives them a feel that they just steal equipment from their enemies and have been out of supply for a while.

And if you steal any of my ideas, I'll break your legs

I have done a similar thing with the "rag-tag" idea. No two guardsmen will be the same. The only thing that will carry over is color scheme and painting style. I like that about your models too.

Thank you. It makes making and painting them quite fun. I hated making vanilla guard a few years back because it lacked variety.

UPDATE!!

Weather here has been awful and you would never believe it was the middle of cocking July. I need decent light to take my usual snaps but I have had to make do today of what little trickle of light we have. So, apologies for the sh1t picture quality.

I've painted quite a few guardsmen now which are nearly finished. They just need tidying up and glowing effects added.

I've also started on two of my armoured vehicles. First up is my command rhino and I am giving you a comparison of what it was (before I got bored of painting it) and how it looks as of this moment:

And this is a Chimera I've thrown together. It used to be red and had a Predator turret. I've changed it a bit now:

Both the Rhino and Chimera are still WiP as I haven't done any mud effects to them. The Rhino has blue on it because it used to belong to the Ultramarines.
And for those who haven't seen my thread about static defences I am making a Flakvierling out of the Planetstrike Quad-Autocannon:

And here's a scenic base I have started to build:

The weapon and crew will be seperate from the base, it's just something of a bit of fun for me to make. It's still drying as we speak but the moisture in the air is making that difficult. I'm popping down to GW Pompey tomorrow to do a little bit of painting so I am taking my Flakvierling with me to do.

Perhaps it's happy with it's new owners?

I would feel sorry for one captured by Slaanesh guardsmen or marines, that Rhino would always be a'rockin!!!

Or perhaps if the machine spirit had a dirty mind he might like being owned by Slaanesh marines....oh sweet space monkeys of Pluto my mind wonder totally off there, what I miss?

Anywho, sorry if you mentioned it earlier but what will the list consist of or are these just for display purposes?

I like to think that it's new life is a helluva lot better than being associated with Ultramarines. I also have a 'liberated' Land Raider for Apocolypse games. Fluff for that is that it was given to my army by a Chaos Marine force who wanted to insult the Ultras by going against the Emperor's decree about the usage of Landies.

Disturbing.

In regards to the list I am still reading through (and getting me head around) the new Guard 'dex but have been advised by GW gremlins to look at the Vraks list. I have a crap load of Guard stuff (we're talking probably 8,000 to 10,000 points worth dating back to '92) but a huge portion of that is unpainted or gathering dust. I'm going to be making some game lists next week after I've done some swotting so I may have some details on them soon. I also have plans for two Valks (V-22'd up), a Vulture, a walking Tiger I and a Karl Gerat ordinadus piece - leave alone the FW infantry I need (want).

At the moment I am concentrating on the aesthetics.

Ha ha, thanks. I guess it's a compliment to have people "borrow" ideas from you

I have basecoated the quad-autocannon and am waiting to weather it. I have found an old Chimera but I am lacking Chimera turrets. Anybody have any thoughts on alternatives??

Looking as sharp as ever. I like the red on the vehicles, its attractive and thematic. The weathering is also good enough, combined with the colour scheme, to make the chimera generic and multipurpose. It has a 'used' look about it, that fits with the utilitarian and weathered theme to the army.

Stay safe.

Thank you for the kind words. Although the primary colour of the Chimera does not match the others seen in this blog, it does fit the overall theme in my eyes and I'm glad to see it isn't lost on you

One of the things I noticed while looking at various Panzer divisions of the Wehrmacht in the late war was that hardly any of the tanks colour schemes matched. One might be panzergrau and not had a lick of paint since '39 while another would be dunkelgelb with olivgrun stripes. I wanted to have a sort of similar feel to my armour.

Thank you, I am touched. I've yet to play a single game with this particular army but Tuesday night is going to be it's trial run. Wish me luck!

Aww shucks. You guys really now how to make someone feel loved

I do have some updates. Not very good ones as I stupidly took photographs in the waning light.

My quad-autocannon emplacement. Base-coated to tabletop quality. Just about to weather this bad boy up!

Basecoated this to just under tabletop quality. Just about to paint on some preliminary weathering then out will come the pigments! I also need a name for it as I haven't designated it anything. Any ideas as to what pattern tank this is?

I also have my nose deep in the Seige of the Vraks book trying to come up with a decent list for this. I also have found a Rhino in my bits box I'm thinking about using. Any ideas as to what I could use it as?

That tank hunting vindie should have some sort of camo on the front so it can hide in forests and just stick out its gun.

I thesaurus searched vindicate, and found liberate

liberator pattern tank hunter!

I found a cool site about WWII tanks:

http://www.tanksinworldwar2.com/tanks.php

lots of cool tanks, as for your rhino dilema, I don't know.
[Thumb - ghillie on tank.jpg]
camo I was refering too.

Hmmm...Liberator Pattern Tank Destroyer. Has a nice ring to it. Sort of fits into the theme that my guard consider themselves oppressed and want to break free. I'm gonna use that!

And you're right, it does need some kind of camoflague on it - the barrel just looks a bit awkward on it's own. I don't have the confidence to do it just yet but I'll finish weathering it then go to bed. Then tomorrow morning I'll look for some tutorials on how people do it to Jagdpanthers or something. Cheers!

Nice tank destroyer. I would concur on the camo front, but then again it might not be as necessary for an urban based force.

On the naming front you could always go the easy way and go for the Ambush pattern, or the Sniper pattern

I think Liberator sounds good. It's also a bit ironic considering its a liberation to damnation for the souls of those it kills, but I think it's.. good enough

I think with a Jagdpanzer it's quite easy to fit in the long barrel because it's quite in comparison to the body. This looks more like a direct fire Hummel:

Hmmm. You aren't adverse to turning it into an indirect fire piece? Rip off the roof of the rhino, add a shield etc.

I dunno, it might work well in the narrow streets of cityfight. I am gonna use Liberator as the name as it just fits very well with the theme. These guys know they're renegades but they don't know the hand that guides them.

You have to tempt me with Hummel godliness after I've finished painting it. Fret not! I have plans for my artillery down the line. Gonna get some of those Vanaheim Pattern Basilisks and make them into Hummel-esq self-propelled pieces. Just have to leave the side armour off.

I have decided that with that spare Rhino I have found I am gonna turn it into a Griffon. I liked the idea of what they did to the old US M113:

And with my last Chimera I've decided to extend the chassis and turn it into a half-track Chimera. I've only just started both of these so I have no screenies. Yet. I just need names for the new variants. Answers on a postcard!

Astonishing work here, can't wait to see what comes next. By the way, it haunts my mind and I would be glad if you could answer this for me. The miniature with the real thin-looking gun. Is it possible that you have used a FG-42 forit and if so, whre did you get it from?

I won't bother.

I can answer that: Yes, it is an FG-42. One of my favourite weapons of the war as the Fallschirmjaeger were my favourite troops as well. It's such a useless weapon that I love it - much like the M3! I got it in a 1/35 Tamiya Fallschirmjaeger box set which you can pick up from most model shops or somewhere like netmerchants.co.uk

Great plan mate

I'm also looking to making a battery of Bassies, perfect imagery for a cityfight.

However, what me and you need is some sort of IG medium field gun, below a Bassy. That would make for some epic conversions.

I'd like to convert something like this and I think it would be right up your street.

Wonderful work, who could say no to such dirty, grimy and characterful heretics? (Not me anyway)

I rather like the anti-aircraft turret and the scenic base you're making for it. I'm pretty tempted to do something similar so can I ask what material you used for the base?

Anyway, keep the good work up.

Totally, Basilisks need to be in a cityfight. You can't have urban warfare without the occasional building collapsing around you

I did see not so long ago a guy made a wheeled Basilisk out of lego bits to good effect. We can always pic up static arty pieces from our lgs and see what we can do. I'll have to do some pondering on this one.

Unfortunately dirty heretics aren't the in thing at the moment. It seems to be shiney Marines :(

As for the quad, not sure what base you mean so I'll answer as best I can. The actual bottom of the quad is simply from an old 1/72 FlaK 88 cannon. The scenic base is made from some cheap quick drying filler layered up.
