Not to highjack a thread...but was there ever a box set that BF put out with jagdpanthers? Got a trade I am working on the guy is saying the jP he has came out of a box set. I can't remember one.

The regular Jagdpanther comes in a small boxed set along with a busted up building as a piece of terrain. That's probably what he was talking about.

I can't remember if any of the army boxes includes one, but I don' think they do.

I've been looking through the online shop and i've changed my army slightly, and now insead of the PaK40 auf RSO Platoon, i'll get some panzer IV's instead (5 of 'em) because they're a bit more generic, so they're mor likely to be included in a army list.
This would then give me:
Panzer IV's = 5
StuGs = 3
SS-Panzergrenadierkompanie = 1
Would that do?

I don't have any of the Bagration books yet, but I would like to get at least a couple of them! I might try to run my Soviet Battalion as Motostrelkovy from Hammer and Sickle or something, but I haven't decided yet.

Any recommendations?

Just overall quality. The lists are all very interesting and unique, the detail and layout of the books is top notch and they just feel more professional and refined than the older books. Hammer and Sickle is probably the best in terms of lists (I love the look of the lend lease soviet stuff) but River of Heroes does have that lovely tiger 2 list

That right there would make a "legal" Fortress Europe list with 2 PIVs as the company HQ, 3 PIV's as one combat squad, 3 StugG's as another and the panzergrenadier in support. Should be more than fine for a generic start.

That sounds sweet Legoburner. I'm gonna check 'em out once I get back Stateside and see how the local FOW scene has developed in my absence (sounds like it's been booming really, they're just finishing up a league).

And DaGeneruL, that'd be a fine start. You could run them like Shotgun said, as a Panzer company, or you could also run it as a Panzergrenadierkompanie or Grenadierkompanie (these two would be my personal preference) with all your Panzergrenadier platoons, along with the HMGs and PaK40s as weapons platoons, and with the Panzer IVs and StuGs as divisional support! The good news is, you've got options.

The nice thing about the infantry options (Grenadier or Panzergrenadier), is that they would allow you to use everything you have, as well.

I just wanted to say it's nice to have a bit of activity in the Historicals section lately.

We should do this more often.

Hopefully we can get some more FOW and other historicals players on board soon, and get some more historical content in the Gallery and the Articles system. Then we'll be pimpin' away!

I've been talking with my friend, and we will only be getting the fortress europe book (for now) and he was wondering if the rules for the m10 tank destroyer platoon were included in the fortress europe book, or if he'll have to get some other model instead.
Does anybody know?

I don't have my Fortress Europe book handy unfortunately, but I am 99% sure the M10 Tank Destroyer platoon is in that book. I have no idea why it would not be.

If you're getting it from your FLGS, you can always flip through the book and check before you buy it.

Agreed.

@ Legoburner: Any chance of FoW getting its own section?

It will definitely its own section when more people start talking about it. That's why it is up to us to drive interest and at the very least get some more modeling content up here. If only the people on the official FoW forum would use us for their image hosting!

I may just start that (image hosting) ball rolling...

I'm not aware of any other FoW dedicated forums on the internet (aside from the official one), I'm sure if Dakka made the first move people would follow, especially if we all sigged a link in the other forums.

Hmm...

I've been thinking about that too. We need to get more of the peeps from Battlefront's website over here. You think a sig link is enough to do it? We could just roll around in the FOW Modeling and Gallery sections and really start pimping Dakka's Gallery as an image-hosting service. Maybe then people will be willing to make the switch?

I used to post a bit there, maybe we should all start posting there a bit more, with the intent of luring some people here.

If people post about FoW on the net they do it there (BF and PP both run excellent websites). But as an official site it's difficult to talk about other manufacturers (Peter Pig, QRF etc.) I think that Dakka can make its mark in that department as there's nothing else on the web.

If someone knocks up a nice FoW/Dakka/gallery gif I will use it.

BTW: Could someone seperate this conversation from the thread so we don't ruin it. While we're at it we could do with a 'New to FoW' thread stickied in here.

Splitting a thread is the one feature that our forum doesnt support. Might be best to just start a new one now instead.

I'll speak to yakface about changing this forum's title to 'Flames of War and Historical Games' to make it more obvious that there is FoW content.

The new to FoW sticky thread would also be very useful and could contain links to specific parts of the dakka gallery (with images tagged ww2 or flames of war). Does anyone want to volunteer to make a start on this thread (I'll sticky it) or shall I do so?

I have had pretty much the same thoughts that you have about there not being a suitable impartial flames of war forum, and with the stability of the official forum being such a problem I think the web definitely needs one, especially so we can talk about peter pig, old glory, etc as well. The biggest problem with the official forum is that you have to register to read it, and I'm sure that prevents a lot of people from learning more about FoW and getting into it.

I can make a gallery promotion gif for us to put in sigs on the FoW forums, but what do you think should go into the image? I'm not very familiar with the forum etiquette on the official forum and dont want to make anything too spammy. Just something showing 'hundreds of FoW images', 'upload your own' and 'zoom in for more detail' or something like that?

I've been doing some research, and i think i've settled on the idea of doing my army as the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen, is this alright history and equipment wise?
