The molds must be wearing out and letting more excess plastic in. They use the same molds over and over, no telling how many casts they've been through. They can recalibrate the machinery to compensate to a certain degree, either they can't because of the wear on the molds, or they don't care, so they don't.

You already lost your bet, they make all of their stuff in England or Memphis. They might have their rulebooks printed in China, but the minis aren't. Not even the POS Battlescapes.

I think it is a case of the bad dies these days. I got 3 boxes of the 20 Cadians, and those ALL have bad mold lines, or complete offsets (the grenade hands are unusable.) However the new command squads I got are much, much cleaner.
My planet strike stuff is also nearly moldline free, as was the AoBR box. Assault marines? A fair mess but acceptable.

Wehrkind, Ive got the same problem with some Cadians. i have a newer box with the dark grey plastic that the lines are pretty serious on. I have about 140 of the older light grey ones that just needed a very minor shave.

Part of the issue is mould wear, but human error in the injection process is a factor.

Also, Im willing to make a minor wager, that with all the new finer detail pieces, they need to heat the plastic to a higher temperature(lowering its viscosity) and use a higher pressure to get it to flow into the molds reliably. This will naturally force more plastic into the seams between the mold halves. The darker plastic may have different heat characteristics and explain the switch recently.

the genuinely new stuff is the best quality i have seen from GW yet. The Landspeeder Storm has bugger all defects.
I am noticing a lot of the complaints are from rehashing kits. The cadians in particualr are just half the sprues of the old 20 man box set. so why make new molds when they can chop up the New-Old stock and re-package? sell that all off then build new molds.

I got a battlewagon and a trukk for me birthday this month, the quality was extremely good, not a hint of flash or warping or lack of detail. Very crisp and quality product.

In no way worth what they are charging, but a decent kit.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Old mould = more mould lines, in general. Making new injection moulds is also quite expensive, especially compared to metal casts. You'll notice the quality swing up and down more in the more popular kits, such as the ubiquitous Tac squad box, as they tend to get worn out.

On that note, are people still buying things? I thought we'd all quit until the prices went back down to "acceptably overpriced".
