Exactly what I was thinking.
That 6 dots thing was ingenious, great painting so far.
As for painting, how much do you water down your paints?

i love this and its great to see a new-comer with such enthusiasm and skill!
i love the lighting, very inventive. my only suggestion is to paint grey in the gaps in between the armor.
good work,

Thanks for all the comments . As for watering down my paints. I do that just a little bit on foundation paints with more pigment, but I dont really water anything down, just pull very small amounts when I dip the brush. I'm new to painting though so if you've noticed an area where watering down a paint might have helped feel free to say so, however, if this is in reference to the "gloppy" areas of the shas' el. Those are just some very amateur greenstuff jobs. I couldnt get that stuff to smooth out for the life of me. I assume watering down the paint would mean thinning it, thereby making it less likely to glob up, but if that wasn't what you meant please do feel free to offer suggestions.
As for the grey in the armor recesses, I had tried that and found it didn't suit what I was going for. I've seen it done on other models and I'm thinking I may just be using the wrong gray or something (Astronomicon). I'm not too worried about it though. My theory is their armor is ceramic in composition and would be white in the recesses anyway .

Only just caught up with this blog and I really like what you are doing, especially the kroot.
Re basing I always use grout adhesive (you know for wall tiles) for basing most of my miniatures. Its a very flexible medium because you can water it down and if you buy the un-mixed kind you can thicken it up too. You can use it to texture paint and if you are patient enough form scenic items as well i.e. rocks, mounds etc. Its also cheap!
For your project you could use it to bulk up and irregularise (did I just invent a word?) your bases before you cover with your snow/flock. It is also brilliant white and of a very fine powdered texture so no probs if you don't cover a patch!
Keep up the good work!

Great models you're creating. They shame my forces easily! And I've been painting for years!
As a first force this is outstanding.

i get what what your saying about the armour but there would still be shade inside the gaps, but if grey maybe my fellow dakka-ites could suggest an alternetive?
