American politics are democratic. Nothing is being solved, and fear mongering and idiotic damage control is the current norm because the american public are largely fearful idiots, easily led and too lazy to look past smoke screens with anything resembling independent research.
It's going to fail, despite the most dynamic entity in the whitehouse for a generation, and despite the large democratic majorities in the senate and congress. Its going to fail for the same reason bush ran the economy into the ground without anything resembling a public awareness of what was coming. It's going to fail for the same reason a blind and fearful american populace gave the war in iraq (a war we've already lost and which has cost us a considerable amount of money and international prestige for no gain to either us or the iraqi people, many more of whom have died then would have under sadaam) its stamp of approval.
It's going to fail because the American people are too stupid to let anything good, yet difficult succeed. But are more than happy to listen to horror stories and rubber stamp anything that hurts the bad guys, even if the people telling them who is bad is lying.
Look at this thread. It isn't even a debate. Frazzled is just trolling you all. This is a perfect mirror for whats happening macro level in America right now.

Am I the only person here who thinks we need more Death Panels? They sound awesome. I was disappointed to hear they're not real.
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.
Frazzled wrote:They are not. Its all touchy feely at this point. You have to actually prove something is not in one of the many bills and proposals.
No, see, that's not how it works. I've read most of the bills. There aren't any mentions of, oh say, death panels. If you think they are mentioned, then you have to actually point out where that is. I can't show you where something isn't until you tell me where to look. Otherwise its my word against yours. Of course, that would require investigating deeply held conviction, which we all know is scary!
Who has deeply held convictions about something they haven't actually read anyway? That's so ridiculous its almost comic.
Frazzled wrote:
Its not nonsense. You just disagree with it. Nothing you said supports anything other than ITS YOUR OPINION.
It is nonsense. Absolute, unmitigated nonsense. The whole premise of the Republican opposition is based on three things:
1) Government is always bad.
2) Fabricating lies about the presence of clauses in the various bills which will take healthcare money from the elderly, euthanize them, or steal children from their parents.
3) If these things aren't in the bill, they will be eventually.
Each of these points is horribly dishonest, or fallacious. Hell, 3 is about the poorest excuse for a slippery slope I can think of. About on par with calling gay marriage the inevitable result of straight marriage.
What's worse is that the bill is, as I said, crap. There are an ungodly number of ways in which it can be challenged, or outright attacked, which are both informed and productive. Of course, American politicians being who they are, the opposition resorts to the most spineless tactics imaginable; fear-mongering.
"No, I can't show any sign of interest in this bill. I might lose my seat!"
Utterly pathetic. For both the politician, and the people who would vote him out of office on such pedantry.
Frazzled wrote:
Again what part of "Democrats could vote this in at any time" are you not getting? interesting that new polling shows ore conservatives than liberals in the US again.
And yet that wasn't the case a few months ago. Could it be that many people simply don't know what those words even mean anymore? They reference umpteen distinctly different political positions, and not necessarily in any distinct pattern. That entire means of evaluating the electorate is as useless as saying 4/5 dentists prefer Crest.

OT but no I don’t think they are brilliant generals-mouth breathing slicksters maybe…but isn’t “brilliant general” an oxymoron?
And yet you parrot their talking points so well...

This part... seriously though folks, that gak is so offensive... why would this woman mess with him like that? To start an argument? Never...
Where the hell do these pro-america american come from? How is that an okay thing to do? Even if the dude said something about the U.S. and our soldiers, (which may be true...) he was just expressing his opinion. It is almost like this whole thing is about starting some sort of civil war... what a massive steaming pile of nonsense.
Sebster wrote:The positive? The positive is that I have a reasonable healthcare system, while you have a shocker. I have a system that beats yours in all metrics, and it costs less.
You have people turning up to heated political rallies with guns, complaining about socialism. But congratulations that your side has scored some political points and scared the reactionary base into (maybe) voting for you.
This part...
I am trying to filter the thread... come here little fishie .

And look at that, the conversation devolves into idiocy and stupid pictures. The cycle is complete.
I'm fairly certain were I there in that second video, I would punch that woman in the face hard enough to disfigure her. This whole mockery of a debate has sickened me to the core. America doesn't deserve its place in the world any more if this is how its going to act. It likely won't keep it either, precisely because it doesn't have the stomach to fix itself.

I agree with Shuma. That woman in the video should have been summarily punched in the face. Anyone who says "Heil Hitler" in public should be punched in the face as a matter of course...either they don't know who Hitler actually was and they are just parroting other people such that they deserve a smack for being stupid, or they know precisely who he was and what he did but they still think it's appropriate to say as a form of political criticism in which case once the first punch knocks them to the ground perhaps some boots should come into play.
And that man standing next to her who might have been her husband stating that national service is communism? Again, I would just want to say to his face "Are you some kind of fethwit? Do you even KNOW what the word Communism means?" Clearly he doesn't. He doesn't deserve to get hit for such stupidity, but he does deserve to be silenced. Go read a fething book, learn something, and then come back to me when you have something intelligent to say for the love of God!

Why would you take away someone's right to free speech with violence again?
Also, you hit the woman but not the man... you...
Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Freedom of speech only applies to people whose opinions have been pre-approved as being acceptable.

I'm not taking their freedom of speech away. I'm not incarcerating them. I'm just putting their fething teeth down their throat. I never said I would do it somehow legally.
