Is it just me or does this not offer a solution to disembarking from the valk?

To me this implies GW does not see a problem. I can't tell if they are just unaware that the 2" limitation is crippling to the valks or if the 2" limitation is intended for them.

BTW To everyone going "ZOMG GWAR WAS WRONG", I remind you that the FAQ's are just clarifications. From a Strict RaW point I was correct, but the Devs have made clear the RaI via the FAQ, which is ok for me I suppose

You were never 'right', you took the lack of a rule and conjured up your rational based on the ABSENCE of a rule by using the literal wording to a level the rulesets of this game were never designed for. Luckily someone with a grain of common sense came along and filled in the gap you were attempting to cram with your own interpretation.
