I also discovered that if you under coat with boltgun metal, and then go over it with a wash/thinner paint it bleeds through and gives a great effect to the color.

Those terminators look AWESOME. Ive never really seen what they look like until now. Dang Id use them for my 40k termies lol

Great paint jobs everyone

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. I did in fact gloss varnish the tounge and claws.

The only thing I've painted so far is the Broodlord, but converted him also so I could use him for 40k games.

Thats probably the best painted nid skin tone I've ever seen, perfect! The base kinda doesn't do him justice though, not that it matters much.

Thanks for the positive feedback all, the skin is probably the easiest part of the nid to paint. Its just a skull white undercoat with a 3 stage gryphone sepia wash. 1st wash is all over, 2nd is also almost all over, but coaxing the wash into the joints and deeper parts of the skin, and the 3rd is just in the joints. then its just a 2 stage highlight with watered down Bleached Bone.

Got piccies of my first Genestealers. In real life they are somewhat darker than the pictures seem to suggest, but I had to enlighten the pics because you couldn't see anything from the originals.

Here is my go. Using the GW painting guide for most.

I'm happy with the figure but the green 'Nid blood didn't turn out as expected. It is 5 min epoxy with some pigment. It sprang back as I was stretching which has it curling vs. hanging down. I may try and fix it at a future date (but not likely.)

The hazard stripes are a decal from Armorcast that has been painted over. The base is from dragon forge.

I like it, the 'nid blood could just be particularly gloopy and viscous.

I know a lot of people were trying to figure out ways to make them something besides BA. I've been impressed with what others have posted here so far. If anyone has tried and made different schemes, post them up!

jgemrich, your lightning claws termie is spectacular! I am very partial to Shuttler's work, as it is appropriately grimdark and very realistic. As for the nids, Kanvass gets my vote for his awesome skin tone that I might steal... I just so happen to have a lot of sepia wash that I previously didn't know what to use for.

Here's my lame attempt at a terminator:
