About 1000-1250 because I enjoy the high level of thinking it takes to make a list balanced enough (and it's quicker)

1850-2000 leaves open abuse potential (leafblower etc), although lesser values (1000pts) hurt armies like necrons etc

1750. It gives you that little pinch more than 1500 just to give you access to that tooled up unit or to add some extra wargear here and there.

I chose 'no preference' as I've no tournament experience yet. I think that a maximum of 1,500pts would be my favourite though. I play orks and that seems to be a large enough game for me, moving blobs of 30 orks can become tiresome quite fast

1,500 to 2,000. Most commonly, 1,850. IMO it's the sweet spot.
1,500 is a great standard but 1,850 allows more permissive list building for armies that need it.
There's definitely a sweet spot. Some armies scale well and others don't, in competitive environments.
For example, IG scales very very well, and can perform disgustingly well in lower point games, yet still has enough space in each FOC slot through Squadrons to really fill out nicely. Troops you can fill rather nicely. HQ you can fill with CCSs. Everything can get a pretty bangin' transport. Fast Attack slots are amazing (Vendettas) and the Heavy Support slots don't need explanation. It scales well.
Dark Eldar also does pretty well. 3x Ravagers, a bunch of Wyches in Venoms or Raiders, whatever...you can max it out fairly well and most of the units are cheap enough to satisfactorily fill out a 1,000 pt list just as well as a 2,000 pt list.
CSM on the other hand...once you've blown your points on 2 lash sorcerors and 9 obliterators, you've maxed out your HQ and HS slots with the most competitive choices. Above 1,850 it runs out of viable choices in other areas that really hit hard. What are you going to load up on, Chosen in Rhinos and min-max units of Plague Marines? Meh...the Fast Attack choices are pretty worthless and the Elites are very meh.
Sisters also run out of steam. Above 1,850, once you've taken your 3 Exorcists, fizzlepop that's it...

I agree with the comment. 1500 points and under makes you think on how to build your list ( IMHO) and just love the quote!

1750 for larger Games (much more manageable)
750(1 HQ (Max 2 wounds) + 1 Troop (Mandatory), rest as you see fit.
The 750 can have some amazingly frugal lists, it's amazing what you can get for 750pts if you are clever.

Personally I voted for 2k.
Simple reason is with 2,000pts you have enough room to fit in a few non optimized units and still stay competitive. With games 1,500pts and less you see the same cookie cutter lists with 0 personalization what so ever. While this point value might encourage some cheese, a well rounded army almost always wins at the end of the day.

I voted 2000 - but I almost think 1850 is the magic number.
1850 leaves you with everything you NEED.. as apposed to giving you a throwaway unit or upgrades just because.

I have always liked 1,500 point game, it gives you a balanced, well organized force.
Also, the games won't last to long as we don't always have so much time for wargamming!

woops read only the title before polling, thought it was for just casual games. i prefer either an 1850 tourney or a 2k one. but my second favorite is the small 500 point ones. you seem some interesting lists that normally would fail, but because its such a small game they do very well.

1750 is like the perfect tournament limit. I mean 1500 is a good normal game size, but 1750 allowes for one or two more squads to be fielded

Where's the 1000pt option? So much thought can go into list building, tactics and terrain at that level. You can get one or two non-troop/HQ units and you have to make them count and keep them alive. No suicide squads, throw away units or hyper spamming.

Got to agree on this, 1000pts takes skill because there is a myriad of options, and it makes everyone think, rather than the normal stock meta-lists. Hyper assault units are generally out, so are massed Armour or the so called `spamming`. I actually think 1000points shows the best generals rather than the meta-list followers.
