On another vaguely related note I have another question:
If someone is hit by a wep that causes instant death but does not AP on them can they still make a save? e.g a leman russ battle canon (str8 ap3) on a space marine terminator. Can the terminator make his 2+ regular armor save or does he have to take his 5+ inv save?

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

Yes, they can. ID does not affect Armour Saves in the slightest. All ID does is make a model lose all its wounds instead of just 1. So in the case you outlined the Terminator gets a 2+ Save, but if it happens to be a Multiwound Model without Eternal Warrior (such as a Generic Chapter Master for example) he will lose all his wounds if he fails instead of 1.

Suppose your model has a 4+ invulnerable save and is able to make a 4+ cover save. Do you get to choose as neither one is better than the other?

Yes, though tbh there is no real difference. All it means is that if you got wounded by a flamer, you could take your 4++ save (as the cover one is ignored) and if you were wounded by a Psycannon you could take the Cover (as the Invulnerable is ignored). However, in the case like that Guard Order, because they are the same, you can choose what save to take, so you could say "These are my invulnerable saves" and not be forced to re-roll them (as they are not cover saves).

Yeah, but if someone cast Null Field (the reroll successful inv saves power), and you were in cover, there's no reason you can't choose the cover save over the inv save, correct?

Correct. Actually, IMO, I would say you are forced to use the cover save (in the Null Field Example). The rules say you always use your best save. A 4+ Cover save is better than a 4+ Invulnerable that is re-rolled if passed, by any definition.
