Swapper / sellers should have rights . Its Dakka member's rights, NOT random (none dakkite ) ebay seller's rights to use .
Is this problem -really- that out of control? THat seems like a -lot- of single post registrations for a niche board, I mean I can see some members having a -lot- of threads there for thier sales, and that spamming up the boards, but multiple 1 post regs, I can't quite see it..
THe simple answer to -that- sort of thing might be a 10-20 min post count before you can post the swap forum, and a captcha at the registration..

You arnt seen the problem here lance
If me , an active dakka member wishes to post my armies for selling or swapping , and gets told to not have them separate due to taking up spaces
surely you see the logic of not wanting none dakka ebayers doing this?
Do you see the issue now?

I wouldn't mind reputable members posting up their ebay links - moreso for rare/oop items that are of public interest.
Obviously new users signing up just to use the community as an advertising platform should be maimed and killed

I understand what you think the problem is, I just don't see what you're talking about actually happening. Who are these "single post" "none dakka ebayers" that you seem to think are such a problem?
As it is, I offered a perfectly good solution, to your seemingly hypothetical problem - restrict the swap forum to people who have demonstrated some level of commitment to Dakka by building up a post count, and block automated registrations with a capcha..

Oh for gods sake lance why are you been so difficult :
Me: *Makes 3 threads for my 3 armies for sale atm
Mods: Combine them into 1 thread , there is no need for 3 as it takes too much spaces. It is spamming the swap shop front page.
Me: But i dont want to make wall of text but ok i'll do it if its such a problem.
*Takes a look around swap shop and sees ebay people with 1 post posting their ebay link on dakka.
Look ok , there is no "hypothetical problem" as im not the one that raised the issue of seeing threads spammed in the first place.
However , if its fair to tell me to help save space , then do you agree yes / no , it should start via
none dakka members?
I think yes . Hope you understand now.
Yes i never said your "solution" wont work . Im just saying this "issue" was never raised by me , and it certainly is NOT hypothetical.
Its easy , if none dakka member chose to use dakka for spamming their ebay , im going back to selling my stuff 1 army per thread.

Because you're really not making any sense...
Luna: adds issue to the debate
Lancer: points out that issue as presented, is a non-issue and has a simple solution if it was one.
Luna: restates the previous, expecting a diffrent answer..
Lancer: points out that issue as presented, is still seems to be a non-issue and asks for some specifics...
Luna: adds her ancedotal evidence to the issue without providing specifics, (such as names, or a per page count of 1 post ebayers) and lets the cat out of the bag that her issue is -really- with the mods slaping her, but instead of making consolidating threads an issue, maintains that her problem is with "none-dakka" posters who's actions should be restricted before hers are.

I took that same look, I -didn't- see "ebay people with 1 post", at least not without more digging than I'm willing to do, so from my POV it is hypothetical.. and as you brought it to this thread, it is -your- issue. And as a practical matter, if you post 3 threads to sell your armies, unless there are -more- than three, OMG1POSTEBAYPPL, you're a worse problem than they are space wise...
so again..
*points out that issue as presented, is currently a non-issue and has a simple solution if it is one*

I found 3 within the first 1-2 pages.
therefor , i'll only put up 2 armies to satisfy your problem.
Honestly i dont see why you are so angry here.
Count me out , the poll speaks for itself . I'll let democracy finish the job.

I'm gonna respond to Luna's point once I get to work - expect an edit to this post later.
EDIT - now at work and can respond.
Firstly
@Lanceradvanced - honestly, the low-post ebayers come in waves. There was definitely an entire week a bit ago when close to a third of the front page of the Swap Shop had eBay tags. Looking through them, they were mostly new users (most were within their first 10 posts). The one issue with restricting the swap forum to people with some amount of posting (which I wouldn't mind adopting) is that it requires legoburner's attention, and I'm pretty sure he has his hands full enough maintaining/upgrading Dakka to look into this issue, which in the grand scope of Dakka is pretty small.
As it is, Luna does bring up a valid point that a lot of ebayers tend to be newbies whose only contributions to the site are to promote their ebay sales (at least from my observations). They also have a tendency to not bother reading the Swap Shop Guidelines or just assume they can post like they do on other sites (To those guys - I don't care how they do it in other sites, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do"). As such, they also have a tendency to bump their threads a lot more than others which is unfair to the Dakka regulars who are trying to engage and develop a sense of community by trading through the community. That being said, it's not to say that they shouldn't be allowed at all on Dakka, but I do sense that they use Dakka merely as an advertising medium that only really benefits them and uses up Dakka's resources (SwapMod time and bandwidth). Yes, they get enough traffic (afterall, ebay's a good way to get good deals on armies). However, those people could just as easily find those auctions ON ebay.
@Luna - as it is, while the newbie ebayers sometimes hog-up the front page, that's no reason for you, a clearly dedicated Dakka regular, to unnecessarily spam the front page of the Swap Shop. I've said it to you several times before, and I'll say it again - you are over-reacting about the "WALL OF TEXT" in your posts and that they could be EASILY condensed into a single post without trouble. The only time I really start yelling at people in the Swap Shop is if I see them suddenly bump 3-4+ different threads all at once (which you did that one time) and ask them to consolidate. I've done this to several people thus far, so I'd appreciate it if you'd desist with making yourself look like a victim here. I really hope you don't resort to this knee-jerk reaction in the Swap Shop - it's unbecoming of the Dakka community.
That being said to all - regardless of the results of this poll, it ultimately comes down to Legoburner/Yakface's decision and they've explicitly stated that this thread/poll wouldn't really color their opinion on the matter.

correct, they CAN completely disregard the results of the poll and it COULD definitely be the best decision they ever made for reasons that they have no duty to disclose to the general dakka public. as the OP, i just wanted them to know what the community actually thought. as owners/mods of dakka, they have every right to disregard anything and everything they want. heck, they could make a mandatory hello kitty background on every page and require people to post in faux-scottish accents. hmmm... i sense another poll coming...
