I do think elves was an odd opening line. I hope the aesthetic of their orc or undead or 'imperial' humans will allow for them to be used complimentary to 'existing fantasy wargames' ranges.

Today my copy of Hells Highway turned up from Maelstrom Games and included it was a free sprue of a new Range of plastic Elves from Mantic. I'm not a big fan of pointed ears gits in general but I though many here might be interested.

Here are 2 pics of the sprue. My first impression was rather negative in all honestly. The models looked rather spindly and there are no additional options. However this could be just because this is a sample sprue and the retail version might come with all sorts of extra gubbins.

They are nice and quick to assemble and the visible flash was certainly no worse that on a typical GW plastic sprue. Putting these 2 together took about 5 minutes.

The finished models next to a LotR elf and GW skeleton (sorry I don't have any elves) for size comparison. As you can see they sit next to either fairly well.

Hopefully that may help some players out there.

Interesting to see they fit kinda well with the LotR stuff, I placed them next to my WH40K stuff, Infinity and AT-43 miniatures, and it was way too small, although, I didn't place the miniature on a plastic base.

...actually, I know what these miniatures remind me of, something you get out of those cheap Christmas Crackers......

Too tiny, that's a great shame, I was hoping to have found a plastic rank and file replacement to GW figs.

Mantic, make your stuff to the same scale as existing armies or produce an entirely different scale.

I wish this company well but am very disappointed I will no longer be considering them for my purchases.

I think they're in scale with LOTR and other real 28mm figure lines (I have some samples from Warlord Games and Perrys, which look very close sizewise). Which makes them far too small in comparison with GW, but maybe that's not the market they're going for.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The scout samples that we have been sending out are a little smaller than the spearmen etc.

The elves are less bulky than GW high elves.. whether or not you like them I imagine is a matter of personal choice.

Thank gawd we dont all have to have identikit armies for playing games with though

And you can have a 100+ figure army for £65 delivered is an amazing bargain.

Of course lots of you are waiting to see the Undead released. Which should impress no end.

What you have there is a scout sprue, and those come in either their Scout Patrol box or the Warhost. The spearmen and bowmen sprues have lots of extras bits, I've lifted this picture from Corvus Miniature's blog

Why would they need an entirely different scale? These figures are true scale 28mm whilst the GW equivalent are 28mm Heroic scale, meaning there's have bigger heads and hands.

I'm personally looking forward to the undead. For those that don't know, Mantic said on their blog that there going to be at Maelstrom Game's Eye of the storm event in November holding an open day, and we'll get to see the first peeks of the new race!

If you could get a few little fairy wings, those minis would go great with Fairy Meat.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I stuck mine together tonight. Sound enough models and good value for money.

Incidentally they are a good match for LotR elves so would be a cheaper alternative to the Galadhrim, although they are a tad more "heroic" in style (larger hands, feet and heads in proportion to the body. Plus the Mantic elves don't appear to have buttocks!)

I'm no big fan of elves whoever makes them, so I'm not going to bite. But if they bring out undead, humans, orcs or ratmen I might well take some up.

Certainly there are no issues in terms of casting quality and such, and the crispness of the mould is easily as good as GW's, which is my main concern with untried plastic models.

They went out in batches so depending on when you sent your address in they will go in the next batch, which is put together each Saturday and shipped each Monday.

I got mine a few days ago. They are nice clean sculpts but personally I as hoping they would be a little bigger so that they would fit in with my Foundry Revenant Elves. They'll fit in well with the recent crop of Perry and Warlord plastics for kitbash purposes.

I'll keep an eye out for their undead and humans.

I'm not sure you've checked out the responses....these would be way too small for WH40K! If you could convert these to worthwhile Dire Avengers, then you'd be some kind of modelling hero!

I reckon I'll be buying the full boxed set on payday.
I reckon I can field a full High Elf army without buying a single GW model; now isn't that novel?!

Awesome stuff, sent my request off.

If any one fancies having a chat with Mantic Games, then pop down to the Watford Collesseum in London tomorrow for GamesFest4. There's going to be a competition running where you can bag yourself a sexy warhost, stock for sale and miniatures on display, including three ups.

If you can't think of any questions, make you ask the Danish guy "What's next after Elves and Undead???" He'll *adore* you for it.
