@ d c: I think it's pretty straightforward, but if any of it isn't clear, let me know, and I'll try to explain.

Heh, the body is stock, aside from the weapons being moved down, onto it; legs attach exactly as normal.

40k, 4th Edition -- Crimson Templars
Chaos Purged and Sold

With the my Fallen well and truly "unplayable", I finally unloaded them, and late in 2006, I started thinking about a successor army. Something angry and red, possibly Khorne.

selling & trading
At this juncture, I was actively trading my converted & painted CSM away, the exact opposite of buying. This actually felt good, as I was realigning my haves with my wants. Or not-haves with not-wants, in this case. Being a sucker for large modes, I kept the Defilers for some undefined future project.

planning

For the first time, I decided to plan an entire army out, rather than just buying stuff organically. I wanted something with a bit of balance and variety

2 HQ
- Chaos Lord w/ Stature, JP, MoCU
- Bloodthirster

2 Elite
- 1 Obliterator
- 5 Possessed w/ MoCU, Flight, AC

4 Troops
- 5 CSM w/ las/plas, MoCU Inf, AC
- 5 CSM w/ las/plas, MoCU Inf, AC
- 8 Bloodletters
- 8 Bloodletters

Fast
- 5 Raptors w/ JP MoCU*, AC
- 10 Furies

Heavy
- Defiler
- Defiler
- Defiler

A bit light on model count, but that's a side effect of me not wanting to build lots of models.

designing
I didn't much like the metal Daemon Prince, nor the metal Obliterator models, so I was thinking about CSM conversions to bump them up in size via extra gear.

Easier said than done!

Though, this is still based around the 40k4 Codex, not the current 40k5 Codex.

40k, 4th Edition -- Fallen Warriors
Less spendy, more flighty

Early in 2007, I was having trouble coming up with a true "Bloodthirster"-class design that was properly different from the stature design. Also, I was wanting to "punish" GW by minimizing purchases of new models.

planning

I reshuffled to maximally leveage my existing large models.

Statured Lord w/ JP MocU
Lieutenant w/ JP, LCs

1 Obliterator
1 Obliterator
5 Possessed w/ JP MoCU, AC w/ PW

5 CSM w/ Las/Plas
5 CSM w/ Las/Plas
5 inf. CSM w/ ML/Flamer
5 inf. CSM w/ 2 Meltas, AC w/ PF
5 inf. CSM w/ 2 Meltas, AC w/ PF
5 inf. CSM w/ 2 Flamers, AC w/ PF

5 Raptors w/ JP, AC w/ PW

Dreadnought w/ 2 CCWs
Defiler

Defiler

As a side bonus, it removed Daemon Summoning / Possession / Instability as potential issues.

Results

This didn't really kick off, either, but it got me away from Khorne, which I've never really embraced.
