What glue do you use to adhere the models to the Force 9 bases? A poster in another thread said he had trouble making the models stick.
If the model is a plastic model, then I score both the feet and the base with a razorblade, then apply plastic glue. By "score", I mean cut a cross hatch pattern so that when the plastic glue starts to melt the plastic, it can seep into the cuts and create a stronger bond.
If the model is a metal model, I do the same thing, but make sure to wash the metal model first with soap & water. You're probably already doing that before you prime it though. Then I score the heck out of the little metal bit that hangs down and likewise with the slot in the base. Then when the plastic from the base melts, it can seep into the cracks on the metal model.
Also, I found magnetized sheets around the web, including ebay and I'm wondering if I can just cut that stuff and stick it into my existing bases... Any thoughts?
I have a ton of those sheets left over from all my Gale Force 9 bases, in addition to a three foot roll I bought at a local arts & crafts shop. They all suck as basing material. In fact, that's what gave me the idea to start making the metal trays. I thought I could use those sheets, but what I found is that the gf9 sheets aren't really magnets in and of themselves. They're just magnetic enough to hold the models, but once you start shaking your box, models will fall over.
A word on Rare Earth magnets: They're strong, and sometimes even too strong. I was playing a friend last night who uses rare earth magnets for his bases. Everytime he moved a squad around, especially in an assault phase, the models would "jump" out and stick to each other's bases. The rare earth magnets where either too big or too strong.
That's not to say Rare Earth magnets aren't good though; I still use tons on all my vehicles and models arms to interchange weapons. But in my opinion, as bases they aren't very good.
EXCEPT for big metal models! Big metal models need that extra stick when being carried. Models like metal terminators and such need that extra strong magnet.
