I'm fairly sure that was one of their functions originally, before jump packs were introduced to the game. At the very least they functioned as directional thrusters in zero-g.

Theres a few pictures in the Necron codex of necrons winning. I found that to be wildly inaccurate.

Yup, it's an autolauncher, not a smoke launcher.

So far as artwork not matching rules, like the BT Dreadnought, it's been pointed out before that the rules in the codex only represent the more common options found on the battlefields of the 41st millenium. Over 10000 years or so of history, not everyone sticks strictly to the rules...

don't tell that to the tournament kids or the guys over on YMDC.

That could cause a stabbing.

There have been pictures of non-marines beating Marines from time to time. It's not exclusive to Necrons.

Wot's this? DCGM operating in threads entirely not related to their group?

Page nine of the Tyranid Codex has a marine whose legs seem to be oddly proportioned. It could just be perspective though.

Oh God, that's hilarious. Sigged.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Of course it 'exists'. There's a picture of it in the codex.

Note sure what you're getting at here. The fact that something exists in the background material has no impact on whether or not it's usable in the game.

I was getting at exactly what I was getting at.

and yes, I realize the "rules" (term used VERY loosely) are haphazard at best, written by lead poisoned monkeys at worst (reference: a certain "writer" with the initials "GT")

as far as "usability" - "Just make something up" paraphrases a few of the designers quite nicely.

Yes, you can make up whatever rules you want for your own games. I'm still not seeing what that has to do with tournament gamers or YMDC.

Don't see the problems? Here:

The flying base isn't fully photoshopped out, and (probably because of that) some of the vent-like lines on at the rear of the base are gone too (same thing with every destroyer in the full pic)

EDIT: Not a marine pic, but still stupid...

I don't know if this is how it still works, but I remember many years ago reading an article in WD about how they produce the art.

Basically they get 3 or 4 artists and tell them "we want an image of a thousand badass marines advancing towards the viewer, with one extra badass marine in the middle", and sends them all away.
A little while later the artists submit their work and GW picks the one they like the most.
Accuracy be damned, thats why John Blanche managed to get away with submitting nothing but doodles for years.

Its all done freelance out of house. I doubt many of the freelance artists have actually read the rules.
If GW wants an image of say, a Dreadnought, they'll provide the artist with shots of a couple of models/parts and leave them to it.
The guy drawing/painting the picture has no idea that a certain weapons combo is illegal in the codex.
GW don't care as long as the image looks cool enough to help shift units.

Its all just flavour, they've ret-conned so much of their stuff I don't think they know what they've changed, and what they haven't anyway.
Re-using old art is cheaper than commisioning enough new stuff to fill a codex, so just slip in a picture or two from RT/2nd/3rd etc, the kids won't know any better.

The thing that made laugh about this pic is that the necron by the monolith looks like he's getting run over by it

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building, copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair & grab some popcorn and yell JUMP!!!!!
Inquiring minds want to know: Do cos-players carry a costume version of the emergency roadside kit we all have in our cars?

92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.
