In my Eldar back in 4th, I ran a tarpit unit of doom to tie things up while Harlequins did their job...Eldrad (obviously not an underused one, but he could have just been a regular Seer), Asurmen, 10 Dire Avengers and Exarch with Defend and Shimmershield. Once the unit was Fortuned, you've got anyone throwing at the unit or Asurmen getting -1 Attack (Defend), the DA's have a rerolling 4+ and 5++, and Asurmen with a rerolling 2+ and 4++, and Asurmen going to town with his Phoenix Lord stats. Also the DA's and their Exarch (who has a PW) can do decently with Doom making up for their S3. It was a pretty fun unit to run. I also toyed around some with Maugan Ra. Granted, this was in 4th where he couldn't be shot when he was running around by himself, so not quite as applicable now, but he was good stuff. My big problem with all the PL's other than Asurmen was the lack of an invul.

40ke runs a CSM army of Terminator doom led by Abbadon and Typhus. He's pulled some hilarious stuff with them, sometimes just as a 2-man tag-team of death. He once deployed them in a LR (no squad with them) on the edge on the circle in Spearhead, playing against the Green Tide. First turn charge on the corner unit of Orks...Typhus and Abbadon roll in against 30 Orks. Well, both rolled 6's for their Daemon Weapons and absolutely annihilated. A 2nd Ork wave went in to kill them and dig the first out, but the Daemon weapons refused to roll less than 5's and 6's, and they got butchered too. Finally, a 30-man Shoota squad unloaded on them after they carved their way through the other 2 squads, but even that wasn't quite enough. Between them being resolved against T5 (thanks to Typhus) and half the wounds going on 2+/FNP (the rockets went against Abbadon's 4++ and EW), they didn't quite manage to finish the bad boys off. After the salvo, Abbadon was left with 1 wound remaining. So, the Boyz charged in to finish him off, and he promptly rolled another 6 and killed 8 Orks before he went down.

Final count: 68 dead Orks in combat thanks to the dynamic duo. Pretty heinous, particularly when combined with what the rest of his army was doing to the Orks at the same time.

In another occasion,he put Typhus+Abbadon out together, front and center, against IG in some mission. The IG player concentrated way too much fire on trying to kill them. Again, it was a T5 unit with a 2+/5++/FNP against the mass wounds and 2+/4++/EW against S8 and low AP...the shooting phase again killed one and almost killed the other, but it ate up so much of the shooting that the guard player essentially lost his first turn's shooting trying to off them. That was pretty much all she wrote, as the opposing army's shooting and AT was completely untouched. Those two together are a fairly hilarious pile of murder and awesome.

I've had Old Zogwort squig a few other named special characters. It's ceaselessly entertaining. But his best time was when the squigged BOTH Lash of Submission daemon princes in a cheese lash list in back-to-back turns from the safety of his battlewagon.

Only problem with that is that DP's aren't independent characters. Zogwort is pretty hilarious though.
