More updates. Another unit finished, this time Dark Riders. Did a quicky conversion that a lot of people have done using Glade Rider horses and legs, then added DE Warrior and Corsair bitz. I like how they turned out but I would like to do a unit with just spears next so I can clearly field them w/o crossbows.
No bases in the army are done yet. Stole the idea from someone's high elf army to put little runes on the back of the saddle. On the musician I did it on the horse's bum-bum
Not a lot to see here yet, but WIP of my BSB Hero. Unless I'm mistaken, there is no Dark Elf BSB model, so I took the standard-thingie from a Hero on Dark Steed model and mounted it on the back of the Hero with Great Weapon model.
Actually got a lot more done on this guy last night while I watched "A Fistful of Dollars".
To go:
Manticore Rider
Whatever display base I can pull out of my butt before the event

Two things...
One Im glad you use a color on your executioner bases that is warm to bring out the colder darks. Great style and technical points there. However the black and snow on the rank and file dudes kinda mutes them a bit...Might consider a 50/50 shadow/space wolf blue-grey drybrush to try and add some pop. Next time on the snow try adding some baking power and a drop of the 50/50 blue(color of choice think of season to preference like a chef) mentioned to the elmers/flock/powder mix. Looks icier-(sp?) when dry do to the smaller nature of the powder filling gaps between the flock. All that said your stuff is real nice.
Rhino (Looks great) needs the storm bolter and clean the exhaust holes up to look as good as the rest of the model. Please dont scrap them for the Chaosy gargoyle heads.

IMO, the pole on the BSB should be longer underneath his hand- reaching to the floor preferably.

@CadianXV I believe what is in his hand is the GW and the BSB is mounted behind him.
@Blackbone Great job. Would like to see a pic of everything together. Are you going to display it at the Bunker? I will have to drive up there some day if you do. My problem with your paint job is that it is too good and makes me just want to quit painting or at least not start. I was thinking about going blue instead of purple just to be different and was thinking about doing the red crests also. Not sure now. Would like to see it all pulled together. Once again, great job.

Thanks for the comments. Please keep suggestions and critique coming.
I am trying to make the time to test out some new bases on some of the xbowmen. Going to try adding a drop of color to a snow mix to see how it goes.
@boogeyman - I hobby at the Bunker every Wed night lately, so come say hi

More work cranked out last night. I stopped by good 'ol Hobby Lobby for inspiration for a quicky display base. I've always wanted to do one of those picture frame ones, but I didn't find the right one last night. The search continues.
Got the Manticore rider ready for priming. I might have done it wrong, but that rider was a pain to mount! I think the rider is grabbing the hair of the Manticore to steer him - the hair on the rider and the hair on the Manticore just wouldn't line up for me! I filed and fidgeted and just ended up gluing him on with Green Stuff, then sculpting the connection myself.
I like the way the base turned out.
Never did the whole magnet thing before. The ones I ordered for putting on the bottom of the bases were WAAAY too big for this purpose, but I made it work. The wings don't fit completely snug and perfect, but close enough.
Got a lot more done on the Master BSB, but have been working right up to pass-out time so no pics. Tonight I am hoping to convince the Bunker staff to prime my Manticore in Krylon gray, wish me luck!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |
