Conversely, if they "know" what they're doing.. .then so does their opponent. Most of the best builds are patently predictable to the 'inth degree.
Know yourself and the enemy and you need not fear the outcome of a thousand battles.
Sometimes, of course, there's going to be veritable kryptonite out there. You just have to deal unfortunately.
Still for everyone claiming instant magic power kills on entire units of warriors... LMAO. It really is hard as hell to gut these little buggers off the table. Best bet is of course melee w/ power weapons or equivalent and hoping for sweep... which isn't so much a 'hope' as a relatively assured occurance. The other thing, is of course, that I don't actually have to start with warriors on the board. I can reserve them w/ the lord and depending on how it rolls I can teleport them across the field in a variety of ways. I guess you can say focuse on the immortals again, but meh...nothing's perfect. And there is still the matter of the incoming threats.
I don't think this list is the super-awesome-pwn-o-tron list. Necron doesn't have that in 5th. Flying circus is a pain in the ass of course, but even that is actually 'do-able' from the view of an opponent. Guess what circus does? Hide the crap (2 troops) in reserve and attempt to contest enemy-zone objectives.
meh... if you guys don't want to try and have fun with it, it's your call. I'll just say that I've played Necrons... a lot. 50+ games... and have never once been phased out other than in team matches at high points where I've got 3-4000 pts barreling down my throat. Even then, that's only happened once.
Trust me, the players were going for phase out too.
If you guys don't believe in the list... that's A-ok, I only posted it because I found it pretty easy to play with just a little forethought and reflection on the use of the different units involved. Whenever it's really stomped someone flat, it's been under really good conditions of course, but even when things have gone south... I eek out a tie at the least.
Whatever folks... I think this one's about done.

Can you explain, in exact and explicit terms, how you will advance to capture/contest 3+objectives in seize ground, or one objective in Capture and Control missions?
Your army is STRONG defensively. With the exception of space puppies and ordinance IG, and tank armies, and super deep strike armies, and maybe nob bikers, .... your opponent would have a very tough time trying to kill off your phase out units if you just sat still and waited for your enemy to attack you.
The problem is, NO opponent will allow this to happen, at least not if they are competent.
As stated before, you will need to capture and hold objectives. This means that you will have to split your forces somehow. In all likelyhood, you will be FORCED to split your army into two sections in all scenarios.
How will you do this and maintain the integrity of this list?

Hmmm, it's been a long time since I checked this out and actually it's rather interesting coming back to it after so long.
Well, since then I've played this list a lot more and frankly, it still stands up pretty well. Mind you, Kryptonite abounds in different forms but to answer the bit about objective play-- okay, a legitimate question.
When splintered how do i hold the line?
Answer: Define such action on my own terms.
Basically, and I hate to say it, this list often has to play somewhat like an objective-contesting/thieving eldar list with a number of factors in mind such as who has last turn, what turn is it, what;s the terrain look like for deepstrike, etc..
In the game, I do a partial bunker in preparation for a counter attack on the assailing forces with tomb- spyders and Big- D with gauss support from the rear.
that counter attack usually consist of suffering withering fire before I can get close enough ( or they move close enough) to bring my monstrous creature numbers into play.
After one or two actions this force usually splinters across the board to perform seperate missions ( either in victory or seeming defeat) such as running towards far objectives drawing more fire or mving in support of the advancing monoliths and troops.
as the battle progress a keen estimation of the 18" monolith transport grab on troops becomes more and more important. This is more often that not how they make a large move. 18" transport, 6" walk, D6 run.
Usually, they're moving on to ground that's been blasted/clawed clear. Conversely, sometime the veil has to be used because the distance is too far.
regardless, that's how a lot of the troop movement is done.
Now, in regards to Thunder-Calv... well, there's really just about nothing ANY Necron list can do against someone spamming Lords and Riders at them with Str 10 thunderhammers, powers swords, etc...and an irritating T5 w/ 2 wounds. Sure Big D can gobble one... maybe 2if you're lucky as all hellm but one wack of the hammer and you're I is down to crap. Which then necessitates running like a little girl... which opens for some fire ( can be good or bad), but often is never seems to quite be enough. I've even repearedly seen 15 Destoryers and 9 Hvy Destroyers barely halt one group in its tracks only to be swept upon by one or two others.
So say what you all will, I still have fun with this list and win pretty often.
I'm not saying I don't get a lot of ties and the occassional loss either. ties are more often than not the win for a necron player of any variety in this current OP codex culture and should likely be the strategic aim of the necron player until such time as a measure of his/her enemy is known to him/her and the possibility for victory is spotted on the table. It's only prudent.

IT's important if you are playing an objective game with crons to place the objectives as close as possible. It is possible to contest two objectives at one time with a single monolith, and the ability to move the warriors around in the last turn of the game makes them decent at capturing objectives late as well.

People need to stop thinking that AP has anything to do with WBB as well. I made that mistake when I first started playing crons, then when I realized it is ONLY CC attacks that ignore armor saves get to ignore WBB I started doing much much better.

Absolutely right. Quite often Monoliths/Tomb Spyders will be used to contest mid/far field. I often play the donkey-cave card and put the tomb spyder in cover with the scarab an go to ground and spam 2+ saves, etc. as well as taking the monolith and jsut sitting on them.
One of the most amusing games I've had was with a Nid player who had to sit in impotent fury as he had some his nice big new creatures near an objective with troops but couldn't jack all to the monolith because I'd already nuke his little pysker cannons:zoanthropes, if I recall. They sure were improved in the new codex by about 5-6 times!!!
Still, invul saves do little to C'tan/Warscythes.

You forgot weapons which are double toughness and ones which dish out instant death don't allow WBB. Incoming battle cannon shell?

Well, I was only referring to any attacks that ignore armor saves and there are str 8 AP 4 weapons out there that would negate WBB but still allow an armor save and str 7 ap3 weapons that wouldn't negate WBB but do negate armor saves (for crons). But yes, you're right in what you said.

As I said, a battle cannon shell or demolisher shell will wreck Necrons. No armour save thanks to the AP and no WBB as double strength - hope there's a res orb around

Indeed. A very aggravating weapon. But also a high priority target.

considering just 1(one) model in a squad has to be within 6" for the squad to still get WBB, more often than not they ARE standing back up.

Not against a battle cannon unless an orb is around.
Well, not for warriors/wraiths/flayed ones as I believe they're the only T4 foot sloggers in the army. I don't include scarabs for obvious reasons.

Right, this list would be fan-TASTIC against people who haven't figured out movement yet, like noobs, for example. Against players that have mobility of firepower (including things like guard artillery where the tank itself doesn't need to move in order to put killing power where it needs to be), you'd be toast, and toast fast.
This looks like a really good list for if you always get to play the game on your terms, castling up in a sound position and then making lots and lots of WWB rolls. The problem is, though, that this isn't all that great at accomplishing any of the three major mission's objectives, which means your opponent can still win games, even without killing your units (your durability is nice, but not strategically helpful). Moreover, once you break out of formation in order to complete objectives, your super stationary defense of doom is going to fall apart.
That your opponents lost horribly I'd say has much more to do with their inability to figure out how to properly deepstrike, outflank, use transports, or bring deathstrike missile launchers than the particular quality of this list.

As already mentioned, a battle cannon shell will flatten Necrons as it's double toughness so NO WBB and no armour saves. Doesn't matter if another unit is within 6" they still won't get WBB. Just hope a res orb is around

Only warriors, not "necrons". Well, flayed ones too. Wraiths at least get the invul save. But no other unit will be denied WBB from a BC.

This entire thread makes me laugh. It's all sound logic, but the kicker is I work Concrete, and nearly everyday I use a tool called the "Big D" hehe.
This list would probably beat me, I would have to bring a lot more lascannons if I knew I was going up against this.
