wow I have wanted to do traitor gaurd for a while but never really had insoiration did you use the forge world conversion kits for you infantry?

Ha i love the irony of them being counts-as penal legion. since penal legions are being given their last chance to die in good grace for the emperor and here they are fighting for chaos! Brilliant :L

Spider is veryy cool, and so is Marbo. My opinion: no hood, no hair. The hair will make him look less like a militery professional, and the hood will obscure his face -not something you want on this model IMHO.

On the Marbo I'd go for long lank hair it just seems far more chaotic and dishevelled for me.

always happy to convert people to the service of the dark gods. the veterans have the FW torsos, yes, apart from the sergeants, they have valkyrie pilot torsos with the FW backpack and a Pig Iron head.

glad you like the little joke. fluff wise, most of those guys are actual prisoners, but they are less "die for your sins, you sinny sinners!" and more "so.. you lot like killing people, eh? how 'bout making this a full-time job?"

thanks for the input guys. i think i'll leave off the hood, like you said, but still undecided on the hair question.

i painted one of the battle psykers, choosing a more alien skintone and trying my hand at some crude OSL:


i kinda like how the lighting looks, but the skintone is too violet, imo. i think i'll give him one or two thin washes of grey and brown.

i also tried my hand at some weathering techniques from IQ: masterclass

turned out so-so, i think, but for about haf an hour messing around with oil colours, pastels and weathering powder, it's not bad. weathering will be, together with osl, filed under "needs more training".

*groan* no, i'm not dead - yet. too bad my family thinks that when i'm not at the universty i'm some crazy gardener-cleaning lady-helpdesk techie-cook hybrid.

yes, it's the psyker again, but with different skintone and some bling on the mask. now here's my question for you folks: does the addition of spikes and filter plugs mask the 'cron origins of the head?
on a relaed note, the infantry platoon is completed - except for the 8 weapon teams. i'm still looking for something fun to do with them, the two guys + tripod is a bit too generic for my tastes.

Make some kind of grotesques for the heavy weapon teams. They count as a single model with two wounds anyway and have a large base so why not get creative. Here are some ideas:

1. Mutie Siamese twin crews
2. Big Mutants (Like in the Lost and Damned list from Codex Eye of Terror). Make them cyborg muties if you wish.
3. Mutie blobs with a mix of tentacles and arms to fire the heavy weapons

anyways, picchas:

these are all the vehicles assembled so far + my take on a missile defence bunker. i absolutely did not like the tower on the the fortress. much too dark angely and way too high for a strongpoint. i am still planning to do a little step by step photoseries for the next flakspider. maybe tomorrow.^^


adding camo patterns with canned primer actually worked pretty well, the most time consuming part was cuttig out all those rectangles from the masking tape. it's supposed to be a kind of all purpose wintery/tundra/ruins pattern and i'm actually very pleased with how it came out. now i only have to wait for my airbrush to arrive, to start the detailing.

on a side note, i did like most of the improvements to the new chimera, but wth, no track guards? :(

sure. here's a close up on the main part:

the bunker is from quantum gothic, the comms array and mount is from the gw bastion. roof and antenna are removable so you can put minis inside and/or arm the building with an AA gun. i added some COD and some forgeworld resin parts to better integrate it into the fortress and to goth it up a bit.^^ the rest is out of the fox ortress of redemption, except both weapons are missile launchers. i use the twin laser turret on a bastion.

I finally managed to upgrade my airbrush equipment from a tankless compressor and a 30 bucks ebay gun to a more silent compresor and an hs infinity. I'm still working out the right mixtures for the different paints and trying some techniques, but i'm already way more satisfied with overall quality of painting than i was when using brushes only.
Here's an example shot of my veterans after the facelift:

spraying almost parallel to the surface is also a nice and easy way to shade folds in clothing.
i have a big question, though: is there a good way to use foundation paints with a 0,15 needle? mine always immediately clogs, no matter what or how much thinner i use. :(
