Did they remove the option to watch these on their site? I watched the first there a few days ago, but all I can find is a one minute excerpt now.

After watching Part 2 I ran into my kitchen and hugged all of the oven mitts...

Not really sure. The air-cooled version is the M1919, but I have no idea when it found its way into Marine battalion TO&E.

The bodies after the bombardment were particularly graphic.

The water-cooled M1917 never really left USMC service, they simply were reduced in number per Battalion (36 guns to 18 by May of '44) and kicked "up the chain of command", as it were.
The air-cooled M1919 began to supplant the trusty old water-cooled units in April of 1943. When the 1st Marine Division (the unit covered in "The Pacific") swings back into action from it's post-Guadalcanal refit in Australia, it'll be in Eastern New Guinea/New Britain in December of '43 and the lads on screen should have the air-cooled .30 cal in decent numbers by then.

Fixture of Dakka

My only gripe is the lack of explanation for when events take place, it's not clear how long the time scale is for the first episode, and the second episode is similarly vague until right near the end.
Otherwise I'm enjoying it so far.

Episode 3 basically sucked ass. The last 20 minutes were decent but other than that it was slow and boring. Of course not all episodes need to be action packed but they should at least be entertaining which it failed to do. Definitely building up for the next episode but the acting and plot was like it came out of a daytime soap opera and simply failed to captivate one's interest and like the first episode will never be seen again for me which is a stark contrast to Band of Brothers where I've seen all the episodes multiple times. However The Pacific's cinematography and special effects are still damn nice though.
