With GW rules, sometimes there is a clear cut answer, and sometimes there is not.
For example, "My opponent Ran his TWC in his shooting phase, and then assaulted with them. I read the entry, and I didn't see where they have Fleet." iirc, the answer is, "They are listed as Cavalry. All Cav have the USR Fleet, as noted in the BRB, page XX."
For a "not clear cut answer", look at Tau Target Locks. "If the unit passes a target priority test...." Well, that rule is gone. And there's multiple answers, and everyone gets into the game of "I'm right and you're wrong." [sarcasm] Because, you know, being correct about an obscure rule in a game of toy soldiers, that makes you a man (or woman, as the case might be). [/sarcasm]
The problem isn't the first case. The problem is the second case.
And I've been around dakka for a long time. YMTC has always been one of the more contentious forums, if not the most contentious one. Frankly, it's gotten better, because GW has improved. Anyone else remember how everyone shouted down C99 about ATSKNF in third edition, yet he ended up being correct about it (the confusion was whether ATSKNF allowed you to regroup if an enemy was within 6 inches)?
The issue can be solved by all the posters putting on their big-girl panties. If someone is being a condescending jerk, ignore them. If you come across as a condescending jerk, knock it off and grow up. And if the OP is looking for a "I know this isn't clear RaW, how do people play it?" then make it clear that is what you're looking for.
As my father once said, if someone is standing in a pile of manure and throwing it at people who go by, you either keep walking after getting hit once, or you climb in and throw it back. If you walk on by, you may feel like you lost, but don't have much on you. If you climb into the pile, you might throw more manure at the other guy and make him quit, but then you're covered in it.
