Just going to toss it out there, a 50/50 mix of baal red and sepia inks does the best job for red for some reason.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

Fluff wise its ok. I'm re-reading "Gunheads" at the moment. The story is set on a desert planet covered in fine red dust that gets into your system ( and eventually kills you ) . The orks have been there for years , since they kicked Yarrick off the planet. The dust has got into their system and turned their skin redish brown in colour. So go for it.

It takes me around 5 to paint a fire warrior from start to finish, but in my case, I just suck at hard edges.
Your orks look great by the way, all I'd say is work on the stuff besides the skin, like the teeth and cloth. Right now the skin is really well done, but the teeth, clothing and weapons are lacking definition.

The worst part is that he put a thumbs up right at the end, like "It's all good!" Sorry, but could you re-iterate that please? If not for the OP, than for the sake of my own sanity.

It's like those spam emails you get, ya know?

ETA : I think he might be saying something about facepaint. That's how I do my orks for the most part, break down the squads by color and or side of the facepaint. The Goffs don't have any, but they have things that are checkered, the Deathskulls have half of their face (right side) painted blue, ect.

Thats great and I don't mean to echo the sentiments of some of the others, but i too painted a red Ork army when I first collected back in 2nd Edition. However back then it wasn't very well accepted, to be honest I met up with a lot of resistance and people trying to tell me that they have to be green...

It's good to see though that the skin colour of Orks is still something that some people consider just as variable as their clothing.

I have to confess, I have strayed from the path of diversity... all my Orks are green :(

EDIT:

Oh and I think he's saying that he wanted to do red Orks, but his mates said they wouldn't let him use them unless he stated they were wearing face paint. The first part of the post seems to suggest that he thinks red orks are disallowed in the rules.

Don't see anything wrong with red orks. I think it makes them look even angrier and more belligerent than usual, which is cool.

Hey all, thout I should probably update you on my progress so far.

A few questions for those willing to answer:
So, a few days ago I decided I was sick of painting those tedious AOBR orks and gave my local GW store a visit.
I ended up buying a Warbuggy and some paints, after some thought. When I brought them home and unpacked the Warbuggy, I realised it waasn't very, well, 'Orky'.
I decided to mock up some spikes from the excess bits of sprue (These turned out really well, IMHO. Might post a tut if anyone wants it),
stuck them on and then painted it all up (Will post pictures when my computer Un-Kills itself).
Now, The questions:
I noticed the orks were smaller than my AOBR orks. I'm sure this would just be due to ease-of-management, but thought I should ask just in case: Are all ork vehicles scaled down?
Now, Since this is a thread about the Ethic and Moral Ramifications of the Painting of Red Orks (or something), should I, or shouldn't I paint these little blighters red?
I had originally only intended on painting my AOBR ones red, the see where to go from there. Input?

for the god,
H.A.

Just want to say, Orks can look so awesome with diffirent skin tones. Your red looks really good on them.

I have been experimenting with a cool tutorial I saw on Heresy-Online:
http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55540

You paint the base coat a yellow colour, and then heavy wash with thrakka green. Makes for a great looking shade.

I did some just like in the tutorial, but then I used the same technique but with fiery orange for the base coat instead of yellow, and the orks look great! I am thinking of using the same technique with a red base coat next. I wish I had some pictures to show, but I just can't find the time to get some done.

Anyway, I thought you might like the idea, even if you use a red wash over green, or a red wash over another base colour.

Anyway, not that you are going to change your mind now, but if you ever need to justify why they are red to some fool, explain this to them:

I say paint them all red, unless your going for some type of freebooter thing then it would make more sense for them to be different colors I guess. I personally like the different Ork skin tones. I painted mine green but thats just me.

And to answer your question about the buggy, a few of the Ork vehicles were not redone when they did the Ork revamp. So some of them are STILL in the 2nd/3rd edition mini range. Hence why the boyz on your buggy look so damn weedy and why the buggy itself seems small. Buy a new trukk or the battlewagon and youll see that everything is pretty big now. Hell even the new kans and dreds are bigger. LOS for the LOS god I guess

Keep up the work man its looking good. And welcome to the horde

Yes!

I love alternative coloured orks. Especially yellow gretchin with pink clothes! (Well, the fantasy snots especially).

I tried red orks a while ago there, but if mine werent already green Id have had them blue, but then again thats a bit Death Skulls for me and Ive always been a Bad Moon guy, so now I think if I had the chance to repaint everything (which I might just do when I get round to my orks again), I think I'll go with orange.

WAAAAAAAAGH!

The red orks look nice. Alternatively you could try doing each squad in a different skin color (keep the armor and clothes the same though to stay cohesive). That way you can be really unique and keep each squad separate easily

Well I think the paint job you've done so far is just dandy (Who, besides me, uses that word anymore? ). I love seeing alternate coloured Orks on the Interweb as I find they are great sources of insperation (Yours, Hadouken, are as insperational as all others, great job on the reds ). I myself, am beginning a white-skinned Ork force which will hopefully be up in the comming months.

I approve of this wholeheartedly. I remember a thread a while back where a fellow painted his orks some kind of brownish colour. They were very nice.

I am also voting that they get white splotches.
