Lookin' ace, the red looks good.

The gums look really realistic.

MUCH better, would advise all red with some kind of freehand, a few checkers maybe? It definitely brings the eye to the ork again

Thanks for the help Major. I do like the red i just dont know what to add to it, that is precisely why i didnt highlight it at this point though.

The checkers idea is good. But how about some flames?

The face and pretty much the whole skin of him is absoloutely amazing ! The squig is a bit to colourful for my tase, but still very nice blending going on there

For the red helmet , I'd add maybe like checkers that have been scratched off , around the 60% mark being gone , the rest just being on some random sections .

Flames are a good idea too , but might overdo the model .

It helps to bring focus away from the squig at least abit with the red helmet, but I still don't think the bright blue tail fits in. I think the overall colour should be red an then the purpleish tone just at the end of the tail.
That's imho.

I amy actually go back and mute some of the squig. Checkers is seeming to be the idea that i should go with. To bring it all together. I also am going to make a new base, that one is just cheap and cheesy.

Honestly I hope this doesn't read as condescending, but your ability to take criticism and turn it towards positive results with a good attitude is an extremely admirable trait. It should serve you well in your career too I would imagine!

Thanks, i mean im not like most, ive been in this hobby for a very long time and many people loose sight of the fact that criticism truly is what make a person better at what they want to accomplish. If your negative about criticism your just going to be stuck with what you have, the more open you are the better you could make something.

But thanks for your help guys, i will be trying some checkers and i will post some pics to show you what it looks like. Im thinking a brown undertone to white and red, or just black. Which do you think would work best?

Amazing mini, your blending is er... amazing. Will have to have a stab at blending one day.

Blending really is an acquired taste, if you will. You have to practice at it, but once you get it down you will be able to do it without even thinking. One time i painted for 4 hours and didnt even know it, because naturally i started blending and didnt stop until i got it. Thats basically how i learned to do it.

Here is the ork with some work done on the helmet, i dont think its cutting it just yet though.

I washed the squig with some Asurman blue, but im going to just go back over it. It looks sloppy now.

I think it's looking pretty good actually! You way want to go all red on the other side, or give the metal quite a few washes with black, purple and brown inks, 1 at a time to get a really dingy oiled metal look. If you look at the red side of the helmet, the helmet and face are very crisp and distinct from one another, the metal side doesn't stand out from the skin nearly as much. The metal atm is washing out the fantastic color work on the skin, while the red is bringing it out.

Still think browning up the horns a bit more in the middle and base would also help add more light/dark contrasts to that area.

Still, it's coming along really well. Once you get this one down, the rest will be a breeze! PS, if you were so inclined, I for one would love to see a tutorial on your blending technique, particularly on the ork skin

If you ask it, it will come...It may be a little while but i will make said tutorial. And yea i see exactly what your saying. The left side of the face just kind of lingers as the metal shines...and the right side kind of pops out more.

I'll look forward to both the update and the tutorial then!

The two-tone helmet looks great! That squig reminds me of those Poison-dart frogs.

Some more updates, I really think he is starting to take a turn for the best. Hes growing on me really fast.

The bottom picture is the new base. Less cheesy. SIMPLE. simplicity always wins the race with basing.

Before you take him off the old base, why not do a little experiment? Give it a wash of chestnut or sepia ink, or even black. I bet that will have the same effect as the red on the helmet and make the subtle midtones on the pants and boots pop. Nothing to lose as if it doesnt work out, you are moving it to the new one anyways right?

I still submit that the base may work better darker, I took the liberty of photoshopping what I mean, I think similar to the helmet, the darker base enhances your very smooth and subtle blending by not competing with it in tone range. Thats just IMO though, what do you think?

that base is perfect actually! that would work much better. Im going to throw some washes on it and start over i think.
