Like others have mentioned before me, I'm sure there are many other hobby stores that will give you painting tips and tutorials for free. I plan on going to one on mother's day weekend if they are available to spend my day learning to paint wood elves.

Yep, you are not paying for lessons, just a box of minis and the tool kit at 5 dollars off. You get the lessons basically free and the paint book

Mistress of minis wrote:I'd really suggest finding a non-GW gaming store in your area. They wont jam the 'With you GW sprue cutter you do this, then with your GW file, then you take the GW glue...then GW primer' etc etc

But ya, finding a non GW store that runs tourneys and such will give you a good chance of finding painting classes or groups. All in all most painters have no problems helping newer player learn how to handle the basics.

They are still a business so of course they are going to advertise their products. Our non GW local store is in a war with with them and is doing the same thing GW does but with Warmachine

The product they give you is cheaper than buying everything seperately. They give you like 4 classes covering the basics starting at building.

Is it worth it if you already know how to paint and have supplies then probably not.

Can you learn the same stuff on the internet, probably, but youll have no one to correct you or answer questions.

It also really depends on the GW staff, A buddy of mine was the manager of the milwaukee store, and altough I refused to take the classes (cuz we are on about the same level painting wise), the regular staff was far below that level.

If you are new to the hobby and don't have supplies/friends to teach you basic stuff then its probably worth it. If you are an experienced painter who's looking for advanced techniques like NMM then you probably don't need it.
