Love this Idea. A true scale of the most aesthetically displeasing power armor known to fluff. I'll be watching with anticipation.

Okay, time for a proper update now.
I got quite a bit of work done on my first marine. I plan to finish this one first, so I can figure out the conversionwork to build the other four a bit faster.
As you can see in the pic, I finished the arms. In the end I went for normal trimmed-down marine arms with terminator hands and extensive greenstuff chainmail.
He got a new thumb on the hand holding the helmet and an upscaled MK1 bolter.
The bolter is a old plastic bolter from second edition (??) I think. I added plasticard to it to bulk it out a bit and repositioned the magazine to look more MK1-ish. The barrel is made from a cadian grenade.
Eagerly awaited, shoulder pads. I the end I decided to make my own shoulderpads as the awesome chapterhouse pads turned out to be to small for truescale marines. The pad on the right is finished, while the left one is mid-greenstuffing.
And to top it off some pics with the pads on and a scale picture with a normal marine.
I wanted the pose to look like it was telling a story. I imagined this guy getting pinged in the head by a autogun round, ripping off his damaged helmet while reporting he was okay to his squadmates, while blazing away at his attacker.
I also ordered bases. I chose the Wasteland II series from Dragonforge. These seem fine to represent the wartorn wasteland of 28k Terra:

like the narrative too.

Yes, they are about the same size, although the nromal terminator models are bulkier.

I was sadly unaware of the scale issues with the SMs. Is it like that for all the armies or just some?

All, your crouching guys in some cases will be just a few mm shorter then your standing guys, Catachans are suppossed to be shorter because their world's gravity is higher, etc.

Yah, I made up my mind. It's gonna be Imperial Fists. I think I'll call em the 'Emperor's Fist Regiment' as the words emperor and imperium basically mean the same, but it gives my army a bit of a twist. They will be yellow with fist iconography though.
On the timeline they are the first proto-astartes of their newly formed Regiment, fighting in the late Unification Wars against the Roma tribes in Europa. I decided most of the recruits came from Europe as well.

Thank
Initially I'll put together 5 and a Rhino/Land Raider (not sure which one yet), but they should become a full army in time. Automatically Appended Next Post: A quick picture update to show the second model, this time with a plume helmet:
The arms havn't been bulked out with chainmail yet.
The bolter is not quite finished yet either.
Plumed glory !!!
And with his buddy.

Wow looks amazing!
The one thing im not sure about is the retro bolters
correct me if im wrong but in the fluff they never changed the standard bolter very much from before the heresy to the grimdark 40th millenium. Sure they changed what they looked like as far as models are conserned but id try one with the standard modern bolter as they are
1 easy to find
2 if you screw up is not a big deal
3 look infinitely cooler
4 with all the marine-spam going on theyre are a lot of pre decorated bolters
Right now its almost like using RT marines because theyre older and your doing older marines

These are clearly Pre-Unification marines, and they are very loyal to the design and art, even the somewhat ridiculous head-plumes (which I have grown to love).
I think in order for them to have that feel they need to use the older style bolters.

What a great idea. Can't wait to see this fleshed out. I really dig the design on the bolters, btw. Nice work. The goggles and head-feathers are a nice touch, bringing both the concept sketch and the 80s-era Imperial Army figure designs in. And the truescaling is well done too.
A great detail I recall from "The Last Church" is that the flamers had long, lance-like barrels on them. An extended flamer would be a nice touch on one of the squad members.
You also might consider casting some of the pieces that you are painstakingly converting, if you're going to do a whole army. At the very least pressing some greenstuff molds for the thigh pieces, details etc. might save you a bit of repeat labor. And speaking of details, this is a great chance to work in some pre-Imperial, Unity lightning-bolt decorations.
And the Rhino or transport... looking forward to seeing what you come up with there.

I didn't use the retro-bolters because the model is older, but because I like big, bulked-out bolters (the new model looks to slim to me). Bolters are supposed to be some 50. cal, mini-warheadfiring machineguns and NOT something the average guardsman could tot around. Therefor I decided to use the old and bigger bolters. Also, if you look at the MK1 models GW themselves did, they all have very retro bolters.

I would love to. Sadly, I don't have the equipment to cast anything and living in southern Netherlands doesn't help, as I really don't know anyone around here who even plays normal 40K.
If I make a flamer, it will get a longer barrel, like the custodian flamers in Collected Visions.
