They have the mentality a lot of companies do after doing really well for a while, they believe that we as their customers owe them. They do everything with the attitude that we will continue to shovel money at them no matter what they do. Obviously this stopped working a few years ago but they can't get out of that arrogent mentality so they just hike up prices constantly to further alianate the customers they still have.
Everything they do is counter intuitive. They don't care about supporting the hobby, they don't care if their rules suck and are 10 years out of date, they don't care if they release a new SM codex every month but every xeno has to wait a decade, they don't care that white dwarf is now nothing but a shody magazine of adds that you have to pay out the arse for. They just don't care because we'll continue to buy their crap and if we don't they'll just raise the prices for the people who do.
I was hoping PP would show GW that they can't take their customers for granted and need to go back to their roots as a beloved game company who is part of the hobby instead of an alouf jerk who acts like they resent their own products.
It makes me sad that
GW has such a monopoly on the entire wargaming market. I've tried to find alternative games to
40k, and Fantasy even but it's impossible in my area. It's hard enough to find a game of
40k, which I think is the most commonly played wargame.
I've seen some games that look really, really good such as: Battlefield Evolution (I bought the book and then read on the forums the game is essentially dead),
AT-43, Confrontation, Flames of War ( I don't like WW2 though) and some other games really caught my eye, but I can't find anyone that would begin to play with me because they already play
40k.
But as Skullkandy said, everyone religiously dumps their money into
GW and their products, and it's getting to the point of utter ridiculousness. It's like when there is a new codex release, or heaven forbid a model released for a unit in a year-or-more old codex it's like everything has stopped and we all need to drop our cash money into
GW products.
GW does it because we buy it, we buy it because
GW does it, the pattern repeats itself.
