Koski wrote:How useful are Fire Warriors en masse (on foot)? For any point value game 50 fire warriors at 500 points is something that looks awesome with rapid fire str 5 weapons.... Real question "How many squads of FW is most effective to take on foot?"
How useful? Not very.
FWs should almost always have a transport. They're too fragile otherwise.
Now, "on foot", there is the FishofFury tactic: Move the d'fish up, dismmebark the
FWs within range of an infantry target and then Rapid Fire with MarkerLight assist. 24 shots, with the high
STR Pulse Rifles can be great. Add in a Warfish's 7 dice and you're on your way to wiping out that enemy unit. The point is to use the d'fish's body to prevent surviving enemy from getting around it to assault eh
FWs. Two d'fish make the tactic work best.
LoS: You'll need to make sure that the flying stand you're using is tall enough to allow the
FWs to have
LoS *under* the fish.
One game, the store manager basically said that
FoF was dead, because the d'fish was 'barely hovering over the ground' even though move
GW stand had it high enough for the
FWs to shoot under. Eh, I accepted his ruling (even though he's wrong), disemmbarked on the side and finished off the H-gaunts anyway.
Koski wrote:Second "What in the random dakka tau players opinion are the three best battlesuit weapons?" (Just the weapon profile itself, just ignore point values and whatnot)
PR is best.
MP #2, then
BC. The Fusion Blaster is a distant 4th place because its range brings a suit too close to enemy h2h.
But you should really look at combos:
Arguably, the top two preferred configs are the PR/
MP/
MT FireKnife and the
BC/
MP/
MT FireStorm. The
Deathrains (
TL MPs) you've put in your list are like #3 on the list of preference.
Koski wrote:Third "Is the bodyguard retinue ever worth taking over regular suits?" They're 10 points more, same BS, same W, same T, in a Tau world of "never get in CC" they don't appear any better at all....I'm probably wrong though
No, you're right. I never take the pricier bodyguards. However, I see many lists, and other players who regularly run them. A good list is a nice start toward winning a game, but an inexperienced player will lose anyway. So ... try running it. It must work for somebody.
Koski wrote:Those are the only questions I couldn't figure through myself. I was really stuck on Missile Pods since they're basically Autocannons. And I would love to field 50 Fire Warriors on foot

They'd get caught in h2h pretty quick (no room to run away) and Swept (Sweeping Advance) in a heartbeat ... err, at least Turn 3. I own 48
FWs, but now rarely field more than 3 full units, and that'd be at a 2k point level.
