Try to talk a friend into playing with you. I started playing after my brother and I walked into the FLGS and were instantly intrigued by the models. For 40k at least, it was a really cool thing to get into because, although I got the Dark Eldar from the starter box, it was a great way for me to bond with my younger brother. Although, it's also a lot of money. If you've got the money to spend, it's a really good way to go. I also don't think there's been a solid 3 month period that I consider myself "playing" or "taking a break." Since I'm not in school right now, I'm working full time, and that takes up a lot of the free time that I would use for hobby-ing. However, those random occasions that I do get a text or a call from my local group to have a few games are wonder. If you're able to talk a friend into playing with you, you'll always have someone to talk to about what you're doing and maybe even someone that you can paint/model with. For instance, one of my friends recently got into the hobby, and has had a box of Dire Avengers that he hasn't put together yet. He's glued his fingers together twice, and almost glued his hand to his head once. Myself and the other guys in our group are pushing him to keep going, because to finish the fragmented army that he bought he's gonna need to buy more stuff. If you don't have time to paint, don't worry about it. I know that a lot of the people at stores, at least here, are generally understanding. Some people just don't have the time.

I actually have a full body tattoo, but it's of an invisibility cloak, so you can't see it.

Get out there and play.

When ever I get sick of sticking stuff together or painting (and believe me, playing skaven after 300 plus figures, its getting real old!) I get in a game and it fires me backup to dive in again!

Recently completed sticking together 32 plague monks and converting 8 more into censor bearers I'm just about sick of it and can bearly face the 20 more I need to finish the unit off, let alone the 40 slaves for my second slave unit I'm working on, but after playing last night with my Bretonnians and litteraly ridding rough shod over every unit they faced I'm all fired up again to dive back into the skaven hoard!

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

It takes so much effort for me to not just leave the mould lines on the model...it really is so fething TEDIOUS when I have 70 Gors to do this to, not to mention the other gak.

Honestly, that's where this hobby gets me, and it really pisses me off. Just the effort of snipping off every single model off the sprue, then clipping the bits of sprue off the model, then doing the mould lines, then gluing on 2 arms, the horns on the head, and then finally the head.

Ugh.

Yeah! That's soooooooooooooo tiring :( Sometimes I wish the minis to come cut, cleaned and primed in the boxes, to start painting in the moment. It's ok for a squad... but I also have like 60 DE plastic warriors...

I'll throw my penn'orth in here too. I also had a slow start to the game, I wanted to have my army painted and perfect before I played my first game. Don't bother. Get playing first. As soon as you do, you'll come to love some units you previously didn't care for and vice verse.
Fighting a battle is where all the aspects of the hobby come together for me. Firstly the look fo the army on the table really inspires you to finish of your grey units and makes all the back breaking hours of painting seem worth while. Secondly, it's competitive. Whether you win or loose, you'll have moments of nail biting tension and after the battle you'll know exactly how to change it to make it an unbeatable force (though of course it won't be).
Thirdly is the background. A battle is a story that unfolds befre you, you input by making desisions but the dice make it alive. I've never really bothered much with the GW written fluff, it's ok but it's all about other people's characters seeing you own dwarf lord (or in your case Wood Elf lord) make a dramtic last stand beats all that into a hat.
And so to summarise my lengthy and wondering diatribe. I'd put together a small force - 500 points of so and game with it.

I personally game because it's a release for me. The painting, the scratch model building, hanging with friends and socializing. I always make it a point to not get to competitive about it though. For me, once it starts getting to competitive, it loses its luster. Like some others have said in this post, the actual playing of the game aspect comes in last in order of importance in my eyes.

Really you have to just concentrate on what part of the hobby interests you most. We have a guy at our local FLGS (actually works there) that plays Warmachine with completely unpainted models. No one is forcing you to paint them, or clean them, etc. Just concentrate on stuff that makes you enjoy the hobby overall and the other stuff will slowly fall into place.

When you game the important thing is to find an army you truly love. I mostly play 40K and my army is space wolves because they are noble and are vicious and it fits my persinality. I recomend that once you find that army don't try to change because you will buy a bunch of models, find out you don't really want to change and will be out a bunch of money. The reason you should game is because you love every aspect of the hobby.

FOR RUSS AND THE EMPEROR!
