grey_death wrote:I made some improv terrain out of a cardboard box last game I played. You can make good fast terrain by slotting ruin sections together without even using glue. Just a slot in each side to fit together and you're golden. Cut some windows out, and cut on the bias, slot together and use small sections in the same manner as low walls or smaller ruins. Made a good 3x4 area's worth of terrain that way in about 20 minutes. Even sprayed them whatever color we had on hand.
Pretty sure my friend still has that stuff sitting around his garage.

That's not improvised terrain dude - you just made proper terrain very quickly.

When it's that easy why use a pile of books or a bucket or something?

The only Terrain I actually own is the crashed aquila lander from the 4th edition starter set. It really sucks because it's too low to block LOS, and too thin to hide an entire unit behind it.

A real sucky piece of terrain,TBH

Tablewise, I find a poll table works awesome. 4x5ish, and the dice don't roll off the table.

My favorite improvised scenery though? Nintendo Gamecube. It's a BEAST.

My roommates and I regularly have "Battles of the Kitchen Table."

The rules: you play on the kitchen table as it currently exists, with all the stuff piled on it and everything.

It's usually horrendously unfair, but often quite fun.

Played on improvised terrain lots... even made some for a display for a hobby shop I worked for.
I also picked up some neat terrain tricks from the model RR guys that frequented the shop.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Like most folks I have enough of my own terrain. In answer to the OP though, if I found myself with miniatures and an opponent, but no terrain, I'd be happy to throw some books, canned food, etc on the table and have a battle.

I feel much better about weak terrain than unpainted miniatures.

My group uses improvised terrain alot when we cant play at the FLGS, and we accept pretty much anything we just agree on what it is/does before the game starts.

I do intend to make some sceneray at some point, its on my list of things to do right up there with a suit of foam power armor that I can wear.
